Chapter 139: Chapter 139 Mind Boggled_1
"Really want to know?" Mu Yingchen had an ’if you really want to know, I’ll tell you’ look on his face.
Su Wanxia rolled her eyes internally. Wasn’t this just asking the obvious?
"Yeah." She nodded.
"Actually—" Mu Yingchen paused, then casually said to the expectant Su Wanxia, "It was just running a few red lights—"
Su Wanxia was instantly speechless. Just running a few red lights? So that’s how he got here so quickly, treating red lights as if they were nothing special, as if this was just a daily routine for him? ’Just’?
With his way of driving, how come the police didn’t take him to the station?
Running red lights is so dangerous; does he have any sense of safety at all?
"Hey, Mu Yingchen, do you have any idea how dangerous it is to run red lights? Have you lost your mind?" Su Wanxia scolded him like a child.
She made a bet with him only because she thought it was impossible for him to arrive on time; she wanted him to go back first. Yet, here he was, swaggering over to Xiaolan’s house just because he could afford the fines. Didn’t he ever consider what would happen if there were an accident?
"Don’t worry, look, I’m fine, aren’t I?" Mu Yingchen said as he pulled her into the house.
Once in the living room, Su Wanxia sat on the sofa and began an interrogation.
"Did you hit or almost hit anything on the road?"
"No."
"Then the traffic police didn’t stop you?"
"They tried."
"They tried?" Su Wanxia was puzzled, if they stopped him, how did he get here so fast? Exactly how fast was he driving?
"They just didn’t succeed."
"And then?" she asked again.
"Then they chased after me," Mu Yingchen said matter-of-factly.
Su Wanxia’s mouth twitched.
"And after that?"
"After that, they chased me all the way to the Feng Family’s house."
"And in the end?"
"In the end, after I paid a fine, they left~" Mu Yingchen said with an innocent face.
Su Wanxia pursed her lips. Were things as simple as he described them?
Seeing her like this, Mu Yingchen couldn’t help but laugh and pulled her into his embrace, "You just stick close to me for the next couple of days."
Su Wanxia immediately felt dejected and hung her head.
Mu Yingchen curled his lip, thinking his red-light running was well worth it.
Actually, today he not only ran red lights but also engaged in overtaking and speeding, which is why at every intersection another traffic cop on a motorcycle joined the pursuit. People on the road, seeing their convoy, naturally moved aside.
This actually made things convenient for him, so they chased him all the way here.
When he stopped at Mu Feng’s house, the traffic police surrounded him. Seeing the fancy car he drove and knowing he had come to a residence area inhabited by the wealthy, their attitude towards him was relatively good.
Knowing he was in the wrong, he immediately presented his driver’s license when they started writing him a ticket.
However, as soon as the officer saw his driver’s license, his face changed.
The name Mu Yingchen was known to everyone in C City. After all, he was Asia’s top business magnate, recognizable to anyone who hung around these parts.
So, the officer tremblingly returned his driver’s license and said politely, "So it’s Young Master Mu. We thought we were chasing some kind of outlaw, which is why we made such a big fuss. Now that we know it’s you, we can rest easy."
Then he signaled to his colleagues and they all sped off on their motorcycles in a whiff of smoke.
"What are you thinking about?" Su Wanxia’s voice suddenly interrupted his thoughts.
He looked down and smiled, "Nothing much. Let’s have dinner."
Su Wanxia knew that as long as she was with him, he’d have her wrapped around his finger, never letting her rest from bedtime until she got up the next morning.
"Come with me to the company today," Mu Yingchen said as he dressed in front of her without a trace of embarrassment.
Su Wanxia’s cheeks flushed; whenever she saw his perfect body, she couldn’t help the rush of red to her face and heart.
She buried her face in the duvet and mumbled, "I just went there yesterday."
"Don’t forget our bet. For the next couple of days, you are to stick by my side without straying," Mu Yingchen said, elegantly fastening the buttons on his shirt, his voice as melodious as the strings of a harp.
But at that moment, to Su Wanxia, it sounded like a siren’s call.
"Can’t I skip going to the company?" she asked, her voice even quieter.
"No!" Mu Yingchen, having fastened the last button, flatly refused.
Reluctantly, she lingered in bed a little longer before climbing out.
When they sat down for breakfast, a glance at the clock startled her.
"It’s already 9 o’clock!" What she really wanted to say was, "It’s already 9 o’clock; why aren’t you leaving?"
Mu Yingchen took a sip of milk and hummed, "Only realizing now?"
"You’re usually at the office by 8 or 8:30, right?"
"Mhm."
"I haven’t had enough to eat yet, why don’t you go ahead?" Su Wanxia suggested, looking at Mu Yingchen, who was gracefully wiping his mouth.
Mu Yingchen paused, napkin in hand, then smiled slightly, "It’s okay. It’s already late today. Waiting a little longer for you doesn’t matter."
Su Wanxia had thought he would agree to go given his usual workaholic tendencies, but he insisted on waiting for her.
"Alright then."
Having no choice, she finished her breakfast and followed the radiant Mu Yingchen to the company.
By the time they got to the office, it was half-past nine. Mu Yingchen wasn’t in his office for long before he went off to a meeting that she knew would last an hour or two.
Bored, she lay on the sofa, her eyes scanning the office, when suddenly they landed on a corner of the bookshelf.
She remembered seeing a photograph of them together in that album once by chance.
There really weren’t many photos of them together, just like now. None, except that one she had seen.
With that thought, she stood up, went to the bookshelf, and took the album down, but as she flipped through, the photograph was nowhere to be found.
She thought she might have picked up the wrong album, but after looking carefully again, she noticed a small water-stain wrinkle in the middle - her own tears.
Had Mu Yingchen hidden that photo away again?
And had he noticed it had been touched, especially with such a clear trace left behind?
Oh no!
Suddenly she felt utterly transparent in front of Mu Yingchen.
As she worried, Meng Can called her.
With surprise written all over her face, she answered, "Can, you’re back from home?"
"Yeah, I’m going to sort out some stuff at Mu Group, so I thought I’d call you. Are you done with your things?"
"I’ve already taken my stuff home. When will you be there? I’ll come and help."
"No need. I can handle it myself. Plus, it’s too much trouble for you to keep running back and forth."
"It’s no trouble. I’m at Mu Group." The words slipped out in her excitement.
There was a pause on the line before Meng Can chuckled softly, "Okay then, I’ll call you when I arrive."
Truth be told, he too wanted to see her one last time before leaving.
"OK!"
