Chapter 156: 155. Is it popular to stay over at someone else’s home?
Seeing Jon by himself with empty hands, not even a suitcase in sight, Titus Zane couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Mr. Jon, where is your luggage?"
Jon helplessly spread his hands.
"I didn’t bring any; I only brought myself."
To Titus Zane, Jon’s almost unserious conduct was rather objectionable. Since he had come to T to take care of business, he should at least look the part.
The very least one should expect is a serious demeanor and speech, not this casual and seemingly flippant attitude.
Once in the taxi they hired, Titus Zane asked again.
"Which hotel are you staying at?"
"It was all so rushed, I didn’t make a reservation. Tonight, I’ll have to just make do with you."
Titus Zane...
She glanced at the taxi driver up front, her serious expression revealing a touch of displeasure.
"Mr. Jon, I hope you remember the purpose of your visit!"
"Yes," Jon turned his face to look at Titus Zane, his deep brown eyebrows furrowing slightly, "I came here with a clear purpose, which is why I need to interact with you more."
Jon’s way of thinking left Titus Zane speechless. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, barely managing to raise the corners of her lips to appear less furious.
"Mr. Jon, I think you’ve got it wrong. I did pay to bring you here to investigate some matters, but please remember your role—we have an employer-employee relationship, not friends."
Jon’s aqua-colored eyes remained fixed on Titus Zane, and even though he wanted to interrupt her, he waited politely for her to finish before speaking, his striking features turning serious.
"Miss Carry, please next time don’t discuss our employment relationship in front of a third party."
As an experienced private detective, Jon might seem casual and less serious outwardly, but he was always mindful to avoid mentioning their employment relationship in front of others, especially since he didn’t want to expose his profession, which could bring danger and complications to his work.
Unconsciously, Titus Zane glanced forward again. The taxi driver was concentrating on driving, seemingly uninterested in their conversation.
After saying "Sorry," Titus Zane stopped talking, turned to look out the window, her expression stern.
The taxi stopped outside the hotel where Titus Zane was staying. Jon got out of the car with her and looked up at the hotel building’s shimmering LOGO. He exaggeratedly curled his lip and mumbled, "Not bad." Then he followed Titus Zane into the hotel lobby.
"ID card." Leading Jon to the front desk, Titus Zane turned around, her fair and slender hand open before him.
Jon shrugged, his expression slightly roguish.
"Sorry, forgot to bring it."
Titus Zane...
Gave him a stern glare for five seconds, then turned her head, rummaging through her purse for her own ID card while speaking to the front desk staff, "Could you please help with a room? A regular one will do."
"No, no, no," In a moment of urgency, Jon said ’no’ several times, his long arm reaching out to snatch back the ID card before the front desk staff could take it, then smiling at the service and saying, "Sorry." The young staff member giggled shyly behind her hand, her cheeks turning slightly red.
Few girls are immune to handsome men, let alone a blond-haired, blue-eyed foreign hunk.
"Carry, let’s head back to the room. After two hours on the plane, I’m about to collapse." Jon complained to Titus Zane, perhaps worried she would ask for another room.
So, he kept holding onto her ID without giving it back.
After another standoff that lasted a few seconds, Titus Zane turned and headed towards the elevator first.
Jon followed closely behind, as if afraid Titus Zane would ditch him.
"Only for one night; get your own tomorrow!" Titus Zane stated sternly before the elevator doors closed.
"OK," Jon said with a smile, flashing a hand gesture and giving him a faint glance before Titus Zane turned his face away, arms crossed, no longer speaking.
She was very dissatisfied with this Jon and didn’t understand how Hua Jie had chosen him, actually finding such an unprofessional detective.
Now, Titus Zane really started to doubt his abilities.
If Titus Zane thought Jon was a rogue and lacked seriousness, then after entering her room, the Jon who was grinning and gesticulating wildly was even more headache-inducing.
Looking at the glittering, golden suite, Jon spread his arms wide and looked around, exclaiming in admiration.
"Wow, such a luxurious room, no wonder Hua Jie said you aren’t short of money!"
"Hua Jie said that to you?" With her purse set on the table, Titus Zane frowned skeptically.
"No, it’s just what I figured," Jon admitted with a somewhat embarrassed laugh. Seeing Titus Zane sitting at a chair by the round table, he scampered over and sat opposite her, elbows on the table as he leaned in with his handsome face, grinning cheekily as he asked.
"Carry, if the investigation results satisfy you, would you give me a bonus?"
"No," Titus Zane refused without hesitation, once again questioning Jon’s professional ethics.
"Then, would you offer yourself in return?" Jon leaned in closer, without waiting for Titus Zane to answer, he added, "You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve seen in this country—generous, sexy, and noble."
Titus Zane simply couldn’t be bothered with him anymore, as she turned her gaze away, stood up, with a chilly expression.
"It’s getting late; I need to rest." With that, she turned and walked toward the inner suite.
Jon squinted at Titus Zane’s retreating back, fingers and thumb framing together, "94, 62, 95, so sexy, I like it." Finally, Jon’s gaze brazenly rested on Titus Zane’s buttocks.
Titus Zane suffered from severe insomnia. It was almost dawn, and she had just begun to feel a hint of sleepiness when the knocking started outside her door.
Turning over in bed, Titus Zane couldn’t be bothered to answer, but the knocking persisted, along with Jon’s voice.
"Carry? Are you asleep? Wake up and chat with me..."
"Talk about it tomorrow!"
To get rid of this incessant and annoying man, Titus Zane had no choice but to yell at the door.
"No, no, no, this sort of thing can’t wait till tomorrow." Jon’s voice came through again, and Titus Zane knew if she didn’t open the door, she could forget about sleeping.
Throwing off the blankets, she sat up sharply, slipped into slippers, got out of bed, and pulled the door open.
Seeing Jon standing at the door, she frowned directly, speaking unhappily.
"Is it customary in your country, when staying over at someone’s place, to sleep naked?"
Jon looked down at his boxer briefs, the chest hair on his Western chest contrasting sharply with his pale skin.
Smirking, Jon spoke without a hint of embarrassment.
"That’s exactly why I’m knocking on your door, to borrow something."
"Borrow something?" Titus Zane furrowed her brows, this time puzzled, "What do you want to borrow?"
"Ah, you see," Jon spread his hands, "I didn’t bring any luggage, so I’d like to borrow some pajamas or the like from you. In the presence of a beauty, I can’t possibly sleep like this."
Jon said it as if it were only natural, leaving Titus Zane speechless and even less inclined to engage in conversation.
She slammed the door shut, locking Jon out.
In the presence of a beauty, can’t sleep like this? He’s already like this - what the hell else does he want!
