Chapter 149: 148. Back then, his selfish desires
, watching Logan Ray’s figure weave through the crowd towards the door, seeming to be in a hurry, Titus Zane’s lips remained slightly curved in a smile.
He said, he once loved, deeply loved, and she, had she not loved him too?
It’s just, everything has now become the past.
Nowadays, that love has transformed into friendship, and no one can return to the past; they can only reminisce occasionally in the still of the night.
Watching Logan Ray disappear at the door, Titus Zane finally turned around.
Nathan Moore remained seated on the high stool, eyes downcast, quietly sipping his red wine.
Sitting back down on the high stool, Titus Zane grabbed a cocktail and drained it in one go, then he pushed the empty glass towards the Bartender.
"Another one, please."
"Drink this instead." Nathan grabbed the bottle, and just as the liquid was about to be poured into the empty glass, Titus covered it with his palm, stopping the pouring motion, and then looked at Nathan with a slight curve at the corner of his lips.
"No need, that’s too strong for me, I don’t want to get so drunk that I end up being taken advantage of by men here."
Nathan didn’t speak, quietly retracted the bottle and filled his own glass instead, his downcast gaze hiding the emotions in his eyes.
Back then, she used to drink lots of his expensive and rare collections, and now she’s afraid of getting drunk—it’s laughable.
While finding it amusing, Nathan also understood that in a bar, a place teeming with all sorts of people, it was necessary to be more cautious, but it was just—
To have such precaution against him seemed ridiculous.
Shaking his head and sighing silently, Nathan finally understood the reason why Titus Zane met with Logan Ray; it was to return a favor from three years ago.
Thinking back to three years ago, Nathan didn’t know whether his actions at the time were right or wrong, but that’s how he decided.
When Titus said they were even, he withdrew the advance payment for medical fees, knowing full well that the Zane Family had disowned her and she was all alone, but he did not hesitate.
Actually, he had a selfish motive.
He thought that when Titus was left with no way out, she would turn to him for help, and he would stand before her as the stronger one, watching her beg humbly,
But to his surprise, she ran to Logan Ray instead of him.
At that moment, to say he wasn’t furious would be a lie!
For nearly a year, he was the man who was closest to her, and yet, when she was most helpless, she still thought of that worthless man!
In a fit of rage, he no longer paid attention to her, even forbidding others to mention her name in his presence.
Later, Sophie Foster caused such a disaster, and his brothers had been helping to pull strings. Gradually, they forgot about her too, until one day.
During a get-together, Evander Lancaster casually mentioned that she had left T City; he had seen her at the airport a month ago.
Since then, he heard no more news about her, nor saw her again.
Nathan thought that he would never see her again in his life, and occasionally when he got drunk, he would habitually go up to the fourth floor, to her room, pushing open the door with a bad attitude, shouting her name loudly.
"Titus Zane! You malicious woman, get out here now..."
But every time he stood at the door, he would see, at the balcony, in front of the open French window, an empty wine glass rolling, and also...
A woman’s slipper...
"Snap," a crisp sound echoed, the sound of a lighter.
Nathan snapped back to reality and turned to look, only to see that at some point a lady’s cigarette had arrived between Titus Zane’s fingers, now being lit by the soft glow of the fire.
