Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 244: Making Up Childish Lie

Chapter 244: Chapter 244: Making Up Childish Lie

Candace shot Daniel a confused look. What kind of guy is this? Can’t win an argument, so now he’s just making up childish lies?

"Stop messing around. I’m taking you home," Daniel said as he easily took the knife from Stephanie’s hand.

Candace instantly blocked his path, but Daniel gave a quick signal. His bodyguards surrounded her and led her away.

"Sir! Look over here! I’m still here! Don’t forget me!" Ashton shouted from a distance, watching Daniel walk away.

He looked completely heartbroken.

On the way home, Stephanie did everything she could to escape from Daniel. But not only did she fail, he also took all her gadgets.

Even the ring with the poison needle was taken away.

Daniel looked the ring in his hand for a while, then asked, "Did your mommy give you this?"

Stephanie didn’t answer. She didn’t even look at him.

"This is just a basic nerve-paralyzing drug. It’s not that impressive. If someone has strong willpower, they can fight it off. And you’re still a kid. If you really run into someone dangerous, I doubt you’d even get the chance to use it." Daniel explained while glancing at his daughter.

After saying that, Daniel tossed the ring into the storeroom with a look of disdain.

"I can’t believe you’re still using such an outdated tool. It’s the twenty-first century."

"You couldn’t even dodge my attack with something that outdated. That just proves you’re pretty useless," Stephanie shot back, pouting.

Daniel raised an eyebrow. "It’s not that I couldn’t dodge. I just didn’t put up my guard around you, baby."

The truth was, the moment she pricked his neck, he sensed something was wrong. He would have dodged and taken her down in a second. But he didn’t know what she was holding, and he was scared she might get hurt if he reacted too fast. That hesitation is what got him.

"You say my tools are outdated, but do you have anything better?" Stephanie asked, raising an eyebrow. She had to admit that after their little scuffle, she realized Daniel was no ordinary man.

He actually earned a bit of her respect.

"Of course," Daniel said in a proud tone. "My tools can strike from far away. They don’t just paralyze nerves, they can make someone completely lose control. Like a puppet doing whatever I say."

Truth was, Daniel had even scarier gadgets, but they were too brutal. There was no way he’d let a little girl like Stephanie near them.

"Really?" Stephanie’s eyes sparkled with curiosity.

She knew her Uncle Russell had some powerful stuff too, but her mommy would never let him give those to her.

That was exactly why she ended up in such an awkward situation today.

"Of course, if you’re willing to come home with me, I can give you golden silk armor," Daniel said. "It’s completely impenetrable. Even if your mommy smacks your butt, you won’t feel a thing."

Stephanie’s smile faded. Her tone turned serious.

"You know it’s illegal to kidnap a child, right? Just so you know, my dad is very powerful. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. So don’t even try anything funny."

Daniel, however, felt secretly happy.

So Chantelle mentioned me to her... and in a good way too?

"What’s your daddy’s name? How is he so powerful?"

"You don’t need to know his name. Just know that he’s someone you can’t afford to offend."

This little girl really knew how to protect herself.

"So, is he in Easthan?"

"He’s not in Easthan right now. But if anything happens to me, he’ll come right away."

Daniel, who was just feeling proud and happy, suddenly felt cold all over.

He looked at Stephanie carefully. She wasn’t joking. She really believed what she said and that only made him feel worse.

Stephanie noticed the change in his face and got nervous. "If you hit me, my daddy will make you pay. A thousand times—no, ten thousand times more!"

"Oh? So your daddy always protects you like that in Carcosa?" Daniel asked, clinging to a small hope.

Maybe this wasn’t what he thought it was. Maybe it wasn’t true.

He desperately hoped she wouldn’t say her daddy was in Carcosa.

But her clear, confident voice crushed that hope. "Of course. Mommy told me that when I was born, a lot of bad guys bullied her. It was Daddy who protected her from all of them."

Daniel’s chest tightened when he heard that.

The bad guy she’s talking about... is it me?

Was the man who protected Chantelle back then the same one who stayed by her side all those years?

Just imagining Chantelle smiling at another man, hugging him, and kissing him made Daniel’s heart ache.

All along, he had been lying to himself when he said he didn’t care. He was deeply hurt.

"Don’t worry. My daddy’s a good guy," Stephanie said, noticing his pale face. She thought he was scared, so she tried to comfort him. "As long as you don’t bully me, he won’t hurt you."

Daniel gave a bitter smile and told the driver to head to the hotel.

He needed to learn more about this "dad" from the little princess before taking her back to Chantelle.

After dropping Stephanie off at the hotel, Daniel thought about how scared she might feel being there alone. So he asked Candace to stay with her.

At the same time, he secretly increased the hotel’s security by stationing more of his men around the area.

Over at the Western Hill Villa, Chantelle got a call from the Charity Association.

"Chairman, the authorities have sent someone to investigate us. They’re accusing us of running illegal crowdfunding."

"Control the public’s reaction. Push them to release the results quickly," Chantelle quickly ordered.

There had already been problems during the last selection for the Ambassador for Philanthropy. If they messed up again, they’d lose the public’s trust.

If anything went wrong, the title meant to stand for honor and kindness would become nothing but a joke.

"Rumors are already all over the internet. If we try to force this, it might backfire. And the authorities don’t seem very friendly either."

Someone was clearly targeting them. Chantelle immediately thought of Rowan. This must be his revenge for Camille and now he’s using it to pressure me into signing that agreement.

Too bad for him, Chantelle hated being threatened.

"Announce the results of the Ambassador for Philanthropy selection now," she said coldly.

Never enter a fight unless you know you can win. If the Nelsen family thought they were that powerful, let them go up against the newly appointed ambassador themselves.
