Chapter 235: That Was Crossing The Line
Chapter 235: Chapter 235: That Was Crossing The Line
"Kane, Daddy’s sick. We’re going to help him lie down on the bed, okay?"
"Okay, I’m going to help."
Kane quickly got to work. He cleared away the snacks on the bed. Then, he fixed the pillow and made sure it was in the right spot.
Chantelle’s heart softened at how caring the Little Devil was.
They gently helped Daniel lie down on the bed.
After that, Chantelle pulled up the blanket and used a towel to wipe the sweat from Daniel’s face.
"Kane, you said earlier you didn’t want to talk. What’s going on? What happened?"
"It’s because Daddy wasn’t being faithful. So, I wanted to scare him."
"But now you’re talking to him again. Does that mean you’ve forgiven him?"
"Yes. When Daddy came to see me, he looked really worried. I couldn’t stay mad. I didn’t want to stop being his son—I just wanted to scare him a little."
Kane rubbed his hands and looked anxious as he talked.
"Mommy, it looks like Daddy really loves me!" Kane said mysteriously, with a hint of pride in his voice.
"So, do you love Daddy too?"
"Of course! But I love Mommy the most! You’re the best and the prettiest mommy in the whole world!"
"Haha... You Little Devil, such a smooth talker."
"Do you love Daddy, Mommy?"
"..." Chantelle was shocked by Kane’s question.
She never thought she’d be talking about this matter with her five-year-old son.
But when she saw how serious Kane looked, she knew she couldn’t just brush it off.
"Mommy used to love Daddy very much," she answered softly after carefully thinking it over.
Daniel was supposed to be asleep and couldn’t hear a thing.
This wasn’t the kind of topic meant for a casual chat like this.
Chantelle was trying to comfort herself.
"I loved him very much before... but now?"
"How about I make you some chocolate milk, Kane? Are you hungry?"
"Mommy, don’t change the topic. I knew you’d do that."
"Hmm..." It was hard to fool this Little Devil.
"Maybe... not so much anymore. Sometimes, love just fades."
"Mommy, you’re so bad! Your eyes kept looking to the left. That means you’re lying! Haha, gotcha!"
"Wow, you’re too smart. Come on, let’s go see why Uncle Russell is so late. Mommy really needs him right now!"
Russell needed to be there to check on Daniel and help her change the topic without Kane noticing what she was trying to do.
Chantelle carried Kane and walked toward the door.
Just then, Daniel, who was lying on the bed, slightly moved his long eyelashes.
He was too weak to open his eyes, but he could hear everything Chantelle and Kane were saying.
He felt overjoyed when he heard Chantelle say she loved him.
Chantelle could be harsh sometimes, but Daniel was sure he still had a place in her heart. He just knew it.
He tried hard to wake up, wanting to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. He needed to know what he heard was real.
He pushed himself with all his strength, but his eyes just wouldn’t open.
His mind started to fade, and soon, he passed out.
By the time he woke up, it was already the next morning.
A sweet, tempting scent filled the air, and Daniel slowly opened his eyes, still a bit dizzy.
The first thing he saw was Camille and her face completely healed and looking good.
His mind had been foggy a moment ago, but now he was fully awake.
The warmth in his eyes faded quickly, and his handsome face turned cold.
"Why are you here, Camille?" he asked.
Without thinking twice, Daniel started searching for his phone.
Ashton was probably looking for trouble. How could he let Camille come inside my room while I was asleep? That was crossing the line!
"Daniel, you’re finally awake! I’ve been waiting here for so long!" Camille said as she walked over and grabbed his arm.
"Please let go."
Daniel’s voice was cold.
"Daniel, I’m just worried about you..."
But Camille wasn’t planning to give up. Being alone with Daniel was a rare chance, and she didn’t want to waste it.
Before she could finish her sentence, she saw the cold look in Daniel’s eyes.
She quickly let go of his arm and quietly sat down on the chair nearby.
"Daniel, you just woke up. You must be hungry. Want some congee?"
Daniel said nothing. He didn’t even glance at her.
He reached behind him, found his phone, and called Ashton.
Ashton picked up right away.
"Get over here now," Daniel said coldly. "Or start packing. You’re going to Alewell."
"Yes, sir. I’m here. I’m coming right now!"
Ashton trembled and rushed to the ward after hanging up.
From Daniel’s tone, he could tell he was angry.
But why was he mad so early in the morning?
Ashton hadn’t even had a bite of his sandwich from the cafeteria.
"Daniel, why won’t you look at me?" Camille asked softly.
Camille was being ignored, but Daniel had asked Ashton to come. That made her even more upset, and she began to whine at him.
"Why are you still here?"
Daniel had just ended the call and gave her a sharp look.
She was holding a lunch box in her hand.
"Can’t I just take care of you? I’m really worried, Daniel. It’s a good thing that Chantelle, that annoying woman, isn’t around. No one will get in our way now!"
She said it with a sweet smile, clearly proud of herself.
Camille’s face had healed a while ago.
At first, she was worried Chantelle might stay longer, but to her surprise, she left early. Kane was taken back too.
It felt like a blessing from above.
In her mind, she and Daniel were the perfect match.
"Camille, Chantelle is my wife. How dare you call her a hateful woman in front of me?"
Daniel looked at her sharply, clearly annoyed.
"I know I was wrong, but she really is hateful! You don’t know what she did. Last night, she came into my hospital room, pulled my hair, and threatened me. My scalp still hurts!"
"I even got stung by a bee, and it was all because of that little brat. I bet Chantelle planned it. She’s so mean. Why do you still want to be with someone like her, Daniel?"
Camille said with a bitter tone, letting out everything she had been holding back.
She wanted Daniel to see the real Chantelle. She didn’t want him to be fooled.
