Chapter 233: Chapter 233: I’m Warning You
"You talked! Kane, that’s amazing!" Daniel bent down and hugged him tightly, spinning around the room in joy.
Kane noticed his dad’s body was still cold from the night, but he could feel how badly his father wanted to hold him and warm him up.
"Daddy, here’s the milk Uncle Russell warmed up. Drink it," Kane said, handing it over.
Russell quietly stood up and gave space for Daniel to sit beside Kane, but as a doctor, he could tell Daniel didn’t look well.
"Such a good boy, Kane," Daniel said.
He sat on the couch and placed Kane on his lap.
He felt so happy just being able to drink milk and watch TV with his son.
"Daniel, you don’t look well. Are you feeling sick?" Russell asked.
"It’s nothing. Just a small allergy," Daniel replied, brushing it off.
"An allergy isn’t something to ignore. Since Kane’s okay now, let me check on you," Russell offered.
"There’s no need," Daniel refused. "It’s late. I’m staying with Kane tonight. You should go home and rest."
Russell hesitated for a moment. Daniel was still the boss, and in his weak state, he wouldn’t be able to protect himself if anything went wrong.
But Daniel had always been cautious around people.
Russell only offered help because of Chantelle.
If Daniel didn’t want help, there was no point in forcing him.
"I know my body, Russell. You can go now," Daniel said calmly.
"Okay. But if you start feeling worse, just let me know. I’ll be in the office all night," Russell replied.
"Thank you," Daniel said.
"You’re Ms. Chantelle’s man. No need to be so formal with me," Russell added, scratching his head with a smile.
Daniel had been focused on Kane the whole time, not really paying attention to Russell.
But the words "Ms. Chantelle’s man" caught his attention immediately.
"What did you just say?" Daniel asked.
"Huh? I said there’s no need to be so polite. Did I say something wrong?" Russell looked surprised.
"I meant the part before that," Daniel said, narrowing his eyes.
"Oh... I said you’re Ms. Chantelle’s man," Russell answered, starting to feel awkward. He thought he had said something he shouldn’t and was about to apologize.
But Daniel cut him off. "That’s right. Keep saying that."
Russell looked confused, but Daniel simply waved his hand. "Go get some rest."
Russell shut his mouth, smiled to himself, and walked out of the hospital room.
Just then, Chantelle—who had secretly followed Daniel to the hospital—ran into Ashton in the hallway as he stepped out of the room.
"Did something happen? Why did Daniel come to the hospital?" she asked right away.
"Uh, Mrs. Wilson? What are you doing here this late?" Ashton asked, clearly nervous. He had a bad feeling the moment he saw her.
He already knew Daniel was at the hospital since he asked for Kane’s room number. But Ashton had been sent to check on Ms. Nelsen first, so he hadn’t seen Kane yet.
Judging by her tone, it was clear Chantelle had followed Daniel here. And if she found out he hid Kane’s condition from her, it could be a real mess.
"Is it because of a bad allergy? Let me go see him," she said with a worried look.
She noticed Ashton’s awkward look and thought it meant Daniel’s condition had gotten worse.
Without asking more, she assumed the room behind him was Daniel’s and pushed the door open.
"Hey, Mrs. Wilson, this isn’t—!" Ashton called out, reaching for her. But she had already opened the door.
As he watched her walk in, his heart sank. It felt like his entire career was about to crash and burn.
Inside the room, Camille was pacing angrily, her face swollen like a pig’s head.
She held a cup of water, drinking nonstop just as the doctor told her.
Even though she felt stuffed, she kept drinking to flush out the bee venom but her swollen face hadn’t changed at all.
She was furious and already thinking of ways to get revenge but before she could act, the door suddenly opened.
When she saw who entered, her temper exploded.
"Chantelle Bently? You slut! How dare you show up here!" Camille yelled, then threw the cup at her.
Chantelle was stunned to see who was in the room.
She wouldn’t have noticed her at all if the swollen, pig-faced woman hadn’t screamed with such hatred.
She quickly stepped aside, trying to dodge it but the cup still splashed water all over her body.
Her face darkened as anger rose in her chest.
"Hi, Camille. We’ve only been apart for half a day, and your face already looks like a pig’s. Did your brain swell too?" Chantelle sneered.
Chantelle grabbed a glass from the table and poured in some water. Then, she threw the water straight at Camille.
"Ah! Chantelle Bently, you crazy woman!" Camille screamed.
Camille jumped in shock. She covered her head and dropped to the floor, screaming.
The glass hit the wall behind her and shattered. Pieces rained down on her back.
She was too scared to move.
"I’m crazy? You were the one who hit me first! Who’s the real crazy one here? Ms. Nelsen, do you even know how to be fair?" Chantelle shouted with her voice shaking in anger.
"You’re the reason I ended up like this! And you still dare to show up? I threw my glass on the floor, but you aimed your glass at me!"
"Huh? Me? How did I make you look like this, huh? Tell me, bitch!" Chantelle retorted.
"You called me what? I’m going to kill you!" Camille shouted.
"I’m warning you. If you dare hit me, I’ll slap you right back. So think carefully before trying anything," Chantelle said, staring Camille down.
However, as she looked at Camille’s swollen face, something seemed off.
She noticed it, and though she was curious, she didn’t want to start another fight.
"Your son! He made me pass out in the elevator! I only scolded him, but how could he release bees to sting me? You told him to do it, didn’t you?" Camille stared hard at Chantelle and her anger was getting deeper.
"Camille, my son ended up in the hospital because of you. And now you’re blaming him?" Chantelle shot back.
"What? What do you mean? How is that my fault? Don’t blame me for that! Your son stopped talking because he was scared? That’s not because of me! I’m the one who fainted and got stung by bees!" Camille yelled and felt aggrieved.
She completely forgot that Kane was just five. And the woman standing in front of her was his mother.
