Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 207: What A Waste

Chapter 207: Chapter 207: What A Waste

Chantelle didn’t even look at him and shot both of his legs without hesitation.

"Oops, my bad," she smiled lightly.

"You!" Fred growled.

"It seems Joseph had the security retreat back on purpose. I’ll take my leave now. As for you, good luck," Chantelle said with a reckless smile.

She turned and continued up the stairs.

Even though her escape was delayed, no one showed up.

She was now sure the people in the castle had been pulled out on purpose.

The plan was clearly to make her meet Kate and feed her the wrong information.

She was starting to believe Joseph was involved in Wesley’s death.

While thinking about it, she reached the first floor of the basement.

An old door with strange carvings stood in front of her.

The door blocked off the entire floor. From the hallway, she could only see the door and nothing else.

She wondered what could be behind it.

The symbol on the door looked familiar, but she couldn’t remember where she had seen it before.

She took a picture of it and quickly headed upstairs.

Soon, she reached the door that led to the ground floor.

Chantelle used the heat detector. After making sure no one was outside, she got ready to open the door and leave.

"Ms. Chantelle, Ms. Chantelle, can you hear me?"

Just as she grabbed the doorknob, she heard a click in her earphones, followed by a voice.

"Calvin?"

"It’s me, Ms. Chantelle. I finally reached you. How’s everything on your side? Did you run into any danger?" Calvin asked, sounding worried.

Since the signal was lost, Calvin had been working hard to fix it.

When the connection finally came back, he quickly linked to Chantelle’s signal.

The images in front of him also returned, and soon Chantelle’s figure appeared.

"I’m fine. I’m about to leave the castle. Guide me," Chantelle lowered her voice and was ready to move.

But Calvin suddenly stopped her.

"Wait, Ms. Chantelle!"

"What’s wrong?" she asked.

"Joseph is back. He brought a lot of people with him, and he’s entering the castle..." Calvin said.

On the screen, Joseph had gotten out of the car and was heading straight for the basement.

It looked like he was about to reach the main hallway.

"What!" Chantelle gasped.

This couldn’t just be a coincidence!

Chantelle felt terrified. She quickly looked around for a place to hide.

But there was nothing around except the stairs.

"It’s too late!" Calvin shouted through the earpiece.

At that moment, Chantelle saw the door handle in front of her slowly press down.

As the door handle turned, the door swung open from the outside.

Chantelle took a step back and took a deep breath.

How could Joseph get here so fast? He had just arrived!

"Chantie!"

"Daniel? Why are you here?" she asked, shocked.

"Let’s get out of here first," Daniel said without answering her question.

He grabbed her hand and ran toward the north side of the castle.

Chantelle didn’t say anything and used all her strength to keep up with him.

Daniel stopped at a room on the first floor, opened the door, and went inside.

Chantelle was about to speak when she saw him press a switch hidden in an old painting.

Right away, the wall behind the painting moved, revealing a hidden entrance.

"There’s actually a secret tunnel here?" she asked in shock.

"Yeah. I designed it," Daniel said.

"Huh?" Chantelle was astonished. That was amazing.

She had never heard Grandpa mention it before.

She followed Daniel through the secret tunnel and made it out of the castle.

Ashton was already waiting at the exit.

The moment he saw them, he rushed them into the car.

Just as they left, Joseph arrived at the basement.

He had rushed back after getting Fred’s distress signal.

He knew Fred had acted without permission and he was holding back his anger.

When he saw Fred lying on the ground, covered in blood, Joseph’s face turned dark.

His eyes burned with rage.

"Fred, I told you to leave Ms. Chantelle alone tonight. What were you trying to do behind my back?" Joseph said as he walked down the stairs, step by step.

Soon, he stood in front of Fred.

"Are you trying to kill her?" Joseph asked coldly.

His cane hit the ground with a loud thud, showing he was close to losing control.

Fred trembled in fear.

"No, Sir. I came here only to help you show Ms. Chantelle that you really like her," Fred said quickly.

Using all his strength, Fred grabbed Joseph’s trousers and begged desperately.

While lying there, waiting to die, he had already thought of a way to survive.

He had guessed how Joseph would react once he found out he disobeyed orders.

"Oh?" Joseph said, clearly not believing what he said.

"I told Miss Chantelle that I wanted to kill her because you are really in love with her. I told her I had to remove her so you wouldn’t have any distractions."

"Did she believe it?" Joseph was suddenly intrigued with his confession.

"I don’t know if she believed me or not, but I did everything for you, sir. All these injuries were caused by Ms. Chantelle. I know you care about her, so I didn’t fight back. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be hurt like this..."

Fred’s words were full of loyalty.

He wanted Joseph to see how loyal he was.

Joseph put away his cane and looked at Fred’s wounds.

Finally, he smiled with a touch of arrogance.

"You’re right. These injuries do look like her work. I warned you that Ms. Chantelle is a strong woman, but you didn’t believe me. It’s good you suffered this time. You deserved it."

When Joseph talked about Chantelle, there was even a bit of pride in his voice.

"Forget it. I’ll believe you this time. Let the doctor check you."

"Thank you, sir!" Fred said, feeling both grateful and relieved.

Joseph turned and walked upstairs, while the bodyguards helped Fred up.

"By the way, send me the surveillance footage. I want to see what Ms. Chantelle did here just now," Joseph added, turning back to give the order.

When Joseph got Fred’s signal earlier, he thought that if Chantelle hadn’t left yet and he caught her, things would get even more interesting.

But by the time he got back, Chantelle was already gone.

What a waste! He was sure she had still been in the courtyard when he arrived.

She moved too fast.

"Yes, sir!" Fred replied.
