Chapter 204: Chapter 204: What A Complete Psycho!
Chantelle’s gloved hand gently felt around the lock and quickly found the battery box.
Feeling excited, she raised her hand and pulled a slim black hairpin from her hair.
She used the hairpin to scrape the bottom of the lock carefully.
After a soft click, the lock powered off.
She took out the battery, rubbed both ends and put it back again.
Just as she expected, the lock reset to its original settings.
The password turned out to be the simplest six digits: "000000."
Chantelle entered the password, and the door opened when the clicking sound rang.
She smiled proudly, pulled the door open, and walked inside.
But she didn’t expect there would be a huge drop right behind the door.
She stepped into thin air and fell straight down.
Luckily, she reacted fast.
She grabbed her rope, hooked it onto the door handle, and managed to hang herself against the wall.
The whole space was dim.
After her eyes adjusted to the dark surroundings, Chantelle could finally see the structure inside.
This door led straight to a deep, bottomless pit.
Anyone without enough skill would fall to their death here.
She had only seen tricks like this in funny videos before.
She never thought Joseph would actually build a real one.
What a complete psycho!
Chantelle cursed him silently in her heart.
She gripped the rope tightly and tried to press her body against the wall for better support.
She turned on her small flashlight and pointed it down.
About thirty meters below, she saw a faint light.
She guessed it was probably a mezzanine next to the basement.
If she could get down there, she might still find a way into the basement.
But it was so dark and she wasn’t sure if she could land safely.
For now, the safest option was to climb back up and find another entrance.
After all, the people in this castle couldn’t possibly be swinging over a deep pit every day just to get into the basement, right?
Chantelle made up her mind and started pulling herself up the rope.
Unfortunately, she had barely climbed a meter when the wooden door handle hooked by the rope made a sharp cracking sound...
Chantelle’s heart sank as she froze instantly and held her breath.
Then, Chantelle felt herself falling tremendously, followed by the sound of something cracking.
The fall stopped quickly, but she was still hanging in the air.
She felt nervous inwardly and her senses felt numb.
Chantelle barely dared to breathe as she balanced herself against the wall.
Slowly, she tried to pull the rope hard to climb back up.
But the moment she put force on it, she felt herself slipping again.
She lost her balance and slammed her back hard against the wall.
It was clear the wooden door couldn’t hold her much longer.
The only way left was to go down.
Just then, Chantelle stabilized her weight, made up her mind, and started to study her surroundings.
The space was big enough for her flying machine to work.
She just needed to find a landing spot to get into the basement directly.
As she was calculating her next move, she searched for a good place to land.
Before she could pick one, the rope above suddenly lost its strength. Without warning, her whole body was dragged to the pit.
The sudden weightlessness made her gasp in shock.
Luckily, she managed to turn on the flying machine just in time, so she didn’t crash straight to the bottom.
As the machine slowly descended, she was able to see the situation more clearly.
There were several floor-to-ceiling windows connected to the basement.
The windows were made of precision glass, reflecting the beam from her flashlight.
Chantelle wasn’t sure how strong the glass was, so she kept hovering with the flying machine.
She continued to look for a way in.
Through the glass, she saw a basement corridor, and for now, there was no one inside.
Even though she felt it was strange that no guards were around, she had no other choice.
First, she used her flashlight to check if the glass was only a single layer.
Then she took off her ring and pressed it against the glass.
The diamond on the ring was harder than the glass, so if she pressed it firmly against it she could create a cut on it.
After making up her mind, Chantelle started scratching the glass with the ring.
"Click!" A sharp sound echoed as a crack quickly spread across the surface.
Yes!
Chantelle kept scratching along the crack to make it deeper.
Then, she raised the flying machine higher, aimed at the crack, and threw herself at it with all her strength.
"Bang!" Chantelle felt like her bones were about to break.
But the glass still didn’t shatter.
Despite feeling deeply annoyed, she still patiently pulled her ring from her hand and repeated what she had done.
She scratched a few more lines, connecting the cracks to create a weak point.
To make a stronger impact, Chantelle raised the flying machine higher than before.
The dive would hit harder, but it would also hurt her more.
To be safe, she pressed a button on her suit, and a layer of armor quickly wrapped around her body.
With the armor tightly protecting her, Chantelle dived at full speed toward the glass on the flying machine.
Right before reaching the glass, she flipped her body and kicked it hard with both feet.
The glass finally shattered and crashed to the ground.
A few pieces of glass also fell straight into the deep pit beneath her.
Chantelle used the momentum from the crash and leaped into the basement.
Once inside, she realized she had landed in a glass room.
The wall she broke through was the back wall of the room.
Ahead of her, she saw a door made of the same glass material.
The glass seemed to be made from a special material. It should have been transparent, but from inside, she couldn’t see anything outside.
It felt suffocating to stay there.
Chantelle walked up to the glass door and turned on her heat detector.
But the detector didn’t work because the glass blocked it.
She had no choice but to guess what was on the other side.
Carefully, she pressed her ear to the door, held her breath, and listened.
But she heard nothing.
