Chapter 168: Are You Scared Of Me Now?

Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Are You Scared Of Me Now?

"Lone Wolf, aren’t you supposed to be a top assassin? Why are you still acting like a child? You’re really immature," he roared.

He boldly strolled around, trying to find his enemy. He loosened his tie, wrapped it around his hand, and rolled his neck. He was getting ready for a fight.

"Are you scared of me now? I didn’t think you were such a coward," he added, carefully watching the area around him.

As he neared the stairwell, a bright light suddenly flashed in his eyes. Then, someone began shooting golden threads at him.

Daniel moved fast and dodged the attack. He threw his dagger at the door. Lone Wolf stepped out and caught it.

Lone Wolf laughed darkly. "We meet again, Mr. Wilson."

Daniel saw blood on his clothes. His chest tightened.

"Ha, you’re injured? Where’s Chantelle?" he asked quickly.

"Worried about me, Mr. Wilson?" Lone Wolf looked at his blood-stained shirt and gave a crooked smile.

"I told you before—I never fail an assassination. If I miss it once, I’ll keep trying until I succeed. I live to please my clients. And I’ll make sure you end up in hell. So, are you ready for that, Mr. Wilson?" he said, laughing wildly.

Daniel glared at him. "If you want to kill me, fine. But why drag an innocent woman into this?"

Lone Wolf scoffed. "Innocent? You’ve got to be joking. That woman nearly stabbed me to death."

Daniel’s eyes narrowed. "So, you’re the one who got hurt." Daniel felt relieved. The blood wasn’t Chantelle’s.

Lone Wolf noticed the calm on Daniel’s face and realized he had been tricked.

"Don’t worry. The pretty lady is safe for now," Lone Wolf hissed. "But I can’t promise she’ll still be safe in ten minutes."

"What do you mean?" Daniel asked, eyes quickly sharpened.

"I believe in payback," Lone Wolf replied. "She stabbed me, so I put a bomb on her. Seems fair, right?"

"Are you asking to die, Lone Wolf?" Daniel shouted.

"Calm down. You’ve got ten minutes to find the pretty lady and say goodbye. You can stay here and talk, or go find her and give her a final kiss. It’s up to you..."

Before Lone Wolf could finish, Daniel had already dashed off to search for Chantelle.

"I want him alive, Ashton," he shouted to his man, who showed up with Wilson’s special forces.

"Yes, Sir!" Ashton replied as he and the team surrounded their target.

"You cheated, Daniel Wilson!" Lone Wolf shouted. He could tell right away that the men surrounding him were elite forces. He knew there was no way out.

"As you did!" Daniel shot back before heading into the stairwell. He ran down the stairs fast.

He and Ashton had already checked the upper floors earlier. The basement was the only place left that he hadn’t checked.

When he reached the door, he saw a wooden stick jammed into it. It looked like someone had blocked the door to keep the person inside from getting out. He pulled the stick away and opened the door.

Then he saw her. Chantelle was lying on the ground.

His voice broke as he called her name. "Chantelle!"

He rushed to her and pulled her into his arms. When he felt her breathing, he finally felt relieved.

"Wake up, Chantelle!" he said, shaking her gently.

Just then, Daniel noticed a faint light coming from Chantelle’s bracelet. He reached for it and gently tapped the screen.

His heart sank when he saw a countdown—only nine minutes left.

A thin golden thread stuck out from the bracelet. At the other end, a black rope was wrapped around her arm.

This was the bomb Lone Wolf had mentioned.

The rope was filled with gunpowder, and the bracelet had been turned into a timer.

The golden thread connected them and was triggered by Chantelle’s heartbeat. If someone tried to remove it, or if her heart stopped, the bomb would blow up.

As the timer ticked down, Daniel’s body became nervous.

He knew Lone Wolf had used Chantelle because he believed Daniel cared deeply for her. He knew Daniel wouldn’t leave her behind.

Lone Wolf had made a cruel choice. If Daniel moved the bomb and bracelet to himself, she could live. But he would die.

It was twisted—and clever. Still, Daniel was thankful Chantelle had a chance to survive.

He gently placed her on the floor and carefully moved the bracelet to his own arm.

Once it was done, he let out a shaky breath.

The timer now showed eight minutes. Enough time to say goodbye.

Daniel sat beside Chantelle and pulled out a small, round tablet from his pocket. He gently placed it on her forehead.

Once it touched her skin, it gave off a soft scent. A few seconds later, Chantelle slowly woke up.

She opened her eyes, looking confused, and saw Daniel watching her worriedly.

For a moment, she thought she was dreaming.

"Chantelle, wake up!" he called out.

"Daniel? You’re here? You found me..." Chantelle smiled gently, unsure if this was real or not.

"I knew you’d come for me," she said with pride.

Suddenly, she felt someone pinching her cheek.

"Ouch!"

"Chantelle, Chantelle Bently!"

"Yes, that’s me!" Chantelle answered, trying to ignore the pain.

She quickly came to her senses and realized this wasn’t a dream at all.

"Daniel?"

"Yeah, it’s me. I finally found you. There’s a bomb nearby, and we don’t have much time. Can you stand up?"

"Bomb?" Chantelle looked confused but followed Daniel’s instructions. She leaned against the wall and slowly stood up. Her strength was starting to return.

"Yes, but don’t worry. We still have six minutes. I need you to turn around and run out of this building as fast as you can, okay?" Daniel brushed her hair away from her face and gave her a gentle look.

"What are you waiting for? Run!" Chantelle grabbed his arm and wanted to escape away with him.

She was silently cursing him for staying so calm.

Why is he acting sweet when there’s a bomb about to blow off?

Daniel pulled his arm away and stayed where he was.

"I still have something to take care of. You need to go first."

"No way. We’re in this together. What do you need to do? I can help!" Chantelle said firmly and reached for his arm again.

"Chantelle, I can’t leave," he said gently.

Daniel’s calmness made her even more nervous.
