Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 165: Let’s Start The Game

Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Let’s Start The Game

The visit was unexpected, and Elijah had only just managed to make the lunch rush.

If he had known they would arrive, he would have sent Calvin straight to the restaurant and avoided bringing him to the hospital.

This wasn’t the best time for unexpected guests.

"There’s no need for that, Mr. Jacot," Calvin said seriously as they entered the elevator. "Our chairman sent me to look into the groups we support. If we find solid programs without enough resources, we’re open to giving more support. I’m short on time, so I’ll skip lunch."

Elijah felt a bit down, but his mood lifted when he heard there was a chance of more funding. "Mr. Jones, you’re a man of action and responsibility. We’ve always aimed to improve lives and build a better community. With more support, I’m sure we could do even more."

When Elijah reached for the top floor button, Calvin said again. "The former director also praised your hospital. Would you mind showing me around? It’s part of my duty to see things firsthand."

"Well..." Elijah hesitated.

Calvin noticed the sudden change in his expression and asked, "Is there a reason we can’t tour the hospital?"

"Of course not, Mr. Jones. But as you know, our patients are mentally ill. I’m just a bit concerned..." Elijah said with a nervous smile.

"This is only a routine check. There’s nothing to worry about. If anyone needs more support, it’s your hospital," Calvin replied calmly.

Elijah was overwhelmed to hear that.

The Charity Association is full of rich fools, he thought. Most of them come from powerful families. They’re not only rich but also overly generous. Three years ago, I got the former director to agree to a $500 million donation over lunch. Now that the CEO is missing, I run the place. And all that money? It goes straight into my pocket. Getting rich has never been easier!

Thinking about it made him grin. He pressed the second-floor button, deciding it wouldn’t hurt to give Calvin a quick tour.

After all, every room was locked, so there was nothing to worry about.

When the elevator stopped, everyone stepped out. Elijah was too focused on impressing Calvin to notice that Chantelle stayed behind.

Once the doors closed, she quickly pressed the button for the top floor.

Even though things were going smoothly, Chantelle felt something wasn’t right. But they had come too far to stop now.

Finding Kate was the most important thing.

She leaned against the elevator wall, keeping herself out of view from the camera.

Then, she pulled out her phone and set the camera to shut off in three seconds.

After that, she removed a button from her shirt and tapped it. Her outfit quickly changed into a nurse uniform she had filmed earlier.

Ding!

The elevator doors opened.

Chantelle took off her sunglasses and mask. She checked the heat sensor on her phone to make sure no one was nearby.

Once she was sure, she stepped out and walked toward the camera.

But just as she moved forward a golden thread suddenly wrapped around her neck.

"We meet again, pretty lady!" a voice said.

"Lone Wolf? What are you doing here?" Chantelle asked, shocked.

She struggled to speak as the thread stayed tight around her neck.

"They’re coming. Hide, quick!" Lone Wolf whispered. He pushed her into a nearby room.

Still confused, Chantelle followed his lead and hid in the corner.

Someone was running down the hallway.

She tried to catch her breath.

Lone Wolf looked nervous. Whoever was coming had to be dangerous.

Even Lone Wolf, a top killer, seemed worried.

When the footsteps faded, Lone Wolf let out a quiet sigh. He helped Chantelle stand.

"It’s not safe here. Come with me!" he said and tried to pull her along.

But Chantelle pulled back her hand. She whispered, "I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what’s going on. And how did you even recognize me? I thought my disguise was perfect."

"I told you. I’m not easy to fool. I don’t go by looks. I judge by body structure," Lone Wolf said with a confident smile.

"Body structure?"

"That’s right. People might look the same, but body structure never lies. We can’t afford to kill the wrong person. If we do, there’s no reward," Lone Wolf explained clearly.

Chantelle had only heard of using body shapes to identify dead bodies.

This was the first time she’d heard of it being used on the living.

Lone Wolf seemed to read her thoughts. Before she could say anything, he added, "Don’t be surprised. There are many things in this world you don’t know."

She was stunned that he could guess what she was thinking. But instead of asking more, she changed the topic. "You’re right. Still, I wonder why someone like you is here. And why do you look so scared?"

"Hey! You sly woman!" Lone Wolf snapped. His pale, worried face turned into a wide, creepy grin. "Fine then. Let’s start the game!"

He flung the door open and ran after her.

Chantelle swiftly turned and dashed toward the elevator. She didn’t know why Lone Wolf was there, but it couldn’t be good.

She hit the elevator button fast and watched the floor numbers nervously. It was stuck on the third floor.

Her heart pounded as she heard Lone Wolf’s voice echo through the hallway.

"Where are you, pretty lady? Hide well. I’m coming for you!"

The elevator seemed to be stuck on the third floor and didn’t move.

Panicked, Chantelle ran to the stairs and rushed down.

Lone Wolf heard the stairwell door open and knew where she went. But he didn’t follow.

Instead, he glanced at the camera nearby, then turned back and took the elevator. He pressed the button for the first floor.

By the time Chantelle reached the bottom, she was out of breath. She spotted the exit door and felt relieved. She thought she had reached the main hall.

I need to get out and warn Calvin right away.

But when she pushed the door open, she was stunned.

It wasn’t the lobby. It was a lab made of clear glass.

No one was inside, but the lights were all on.

Where am I? Is this the basement?

She turned to go back, but the door was stuck. Just then, the elevator arrived.
