Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback -
Chapter 159: Who Is Steph?
Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Who Is Steph?
The moment the livestream started, people online began calling Chantelle names like "Ungrateful Chantelle," even before Roman said a word.
The number of viewers quickly shot up.
Roman was excited as he watched the count rise. He played his part well, having Kingsley pretend to be his helper.
Kingsley helped him out of the hospital bed and into a chair, making sure the camera caught everything.
The stream told a clear story: a father left behind by his daughter after she married into a wealthy family.
Despite feeling hurt, he claimed he still wanted to support himself. As expected, people believed his version and showed him a lot of sympathy and support from all over Easthan.
Meanwhile, Roman had already arranged for products to appear on the screen during the livestream.
The interview began with a friendly greeting, then quickly moved to the main topic everyone wanted to hear.
Eventually, Shawn brought up the issue of Roman being abandoned. As Roman shared his painful story live, more people tuned in and wanted to watch the entire interview.
Then, Roman introduced the first product: a late-night eye cream priced at $19.90.
While showing the eye cream, Roman shared how he personally tested the product and chose it before putting it on sale. He said he hoped his daughter would see the stream and get one for herself too.
The viewers were hooked. They were touched by his love and upset at Chantelle for not appreciating it.
Many people decided to show support by buying the eye cream. Hearing that Roman picked it out for his daughter made them think it must be good.
Since it was cheap, they felt like they were helping someone out too.
In just ten minutes, all five thousand units of eye cream were sold out.
Roman could barely hide how excited he was as he saw the sales numbers rise. This was his big moment after being out of the spotlight for so long.
"Thank you, everyone, for your support. But please think carefully before you buy, so there’s no waste or extra spending," he said, trying to sound like a caring father before moving on to the next product.
He was aware how online marketing worked—telling people not to buy only made them want it more.
Right after he spoke, viewers filled the chat with support.
"We’re here for you, Mr. Bently! Being a dad is tough. We’ll buy anything you recommend!" someone commented.
Traffic on the stream kept rising.
Roman almost teared up. He couldn’t believe these people were willing to spend their money on him, even if they were struggling themselves.
Deep down, he laughed at how easy they were to fool, but he kept playing his role perfectly.
Then came the second product.
Roman Bently’s live stream quickly became the top trend on social media across Easthan.
The hashtag #ChantelleIngrate hit number one less than an hour after the stream began.
Meanwhile, Chantelle and Dr. Philip Collins was watching the entire drama unfold from her living room.
"Chantelle, aren’t you even a little upset about all the strangers online cursing at you?" Philip asked, watching her carefully for any sign that she was bothered. He had come by earlier that morning to give her a tracker that could monitor her heart rate, blood pressure, and other vitals in real time.
Philip could check the data anytime from his phone. He was still worried about her, especially since he hadn’t figured out what drug was in her system.
Even back at his lab in Silver Crest Global District, the mystery kept him awake.
For now, this was the best he could do. Daniel wasn’t home since he had left early for the office.
"Of course I’m angry! So angry!" Chantelle said calmly, tapping the screen twice to like a troll’s comment.
Then she spammed the live stream with smiley emojis.
One by one, netizens started noticing her username—@ChantelleBently.
"You do know I can see your heart rate through this tracker, right?" Philip muttered. "Don’t lie. Your heart rate didn’t even change."
Chantelle let out a soft laugh. Before she could say anything back, her phone buzzed nonstop with a wave of notifications. The trolls were going wild today.
Each alert was another rude message aimed at her. But she didn’t care. Instead, she opened her chat with Calvin and typed a message.
"You may begin," she wrote.
"Duly noted, Ms. Bently," Calvin replied right away.
Just as Chantelle was about to return to the livestream, a message from her son, Kane, popped up on her screen.
"Mommy, when will I receive the little sister that I ordered?" Kane asked.
"Ask your Daddy," Chantelle replied.
"Daddy asked me to ask you," Kane responded.
"Mommy, are you there?" Kane messaged again five seconds later.
"Honey, I know you’ve been missing Steph lately. Should I let her know?" Chantelle replied with a silent warning hidden between the lines.
"Your darling son has left the conversation, roger," Kane replied quickly, ending the chat.
Pleased with how she handled it, Chantelle smiled and closed the conversation. But peace didn’t last long.
Just three seconds later, Philip’s voice cut through the silence.
"Chantelle, who’s Steph?" he asked suddenly, making her stunned.
"Philip! You do know eavesdropping is rude, right?" Chantelle said, giving him a sharp look.
"I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, Chantelle, but your heart rate spikes when you mention the name ’Steph.’ As your doctor, it’s only right that I understand what caused it. So, who is Steph?" Philip said, making a valid point.
"I thought you were a scientist..." Chantelle muttered.
"Chantelle, you’re smart enough to know that being a doctor and a scientist isn’t a conflict. Now, tell me—who is Steph?" Philip asked again, with no plans to back down.
Chantelle let out a sigh. She knew there was no way she could escape from his question, so she tried a different approach. "If I tell you, can you promise not to tell Daniel?"
"Of course, of course!" Philip said quickly and his eyes lit up curiously.
"Stephanie is a little girl who used to live next door when we were overseas. She’s Kane’s nightmare. Can you just forget about her?" Chantelle said in a serious tone.
Philip glanced at his phone, then looked back at her.
He nodded.
How could she think I’d fall for that?
Philip didn’t believe her one bit.
