Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 149: Thea’s Scheme Against Ruby

Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Thea’s Scheme Against Ruby

"You’re here to see Chantelle as well?" That hit Ruby like a punch.

Damn it. How could something like this be so coincidental?

This designer knew about her and James—and now she was also connected to Chantelle.

If Thea said anything, everything Ruby had built would fall apart.

She couldn’t let that happen.

"Something came up. Bye!" Ruby turned to leave in a panic.

But Thea wasn’t about to let her escape. Not when she had the perfect chance to scare her. She quickly grabbed Ruby’s arm.

"You’re already here. Might as well stay! Open up, Chantelle! Mrs. Lowe is here to see you!"

Thea shouted while ringing the doorbell loudly.

Ruby clenched her jaw. She wanted nothing more than to strangle the girl who kept calling her Mrs. Lowe.

"You’re being annoying! Let go of me!" Ruby snapped, clearly losing patience.

"You don’t need to be so formal, Mrs. Lowe. You’re Chantelle’s guest—and my customer. I can’t ignore you. I’ll even give you a 20 percent discount next time you visit my shop!" Thea said with a cheerful grin.

"Why would I ever go there again?!" Ruby growled, struggling to pull away but couldn’t break free.

Just then, the door opened.

Chantelle stepped out and saw the two of them.

Jealousy aroused inside Ruby’s heart the moment she saw Chantelle.

This foolish woman had vanished for years and returned looking more stunning than ever. She wasn’t even wearing makeup, yet she looked better than Kate at first glance.

How is that even possible?

"You’re finally here, Chantelle. What took you so long? Mrs. Lowe here was about to leave!" Thea said dramatically, milking the moment for all it was worth.

"Mrs. Lowe? You remarried, Mrs. Bently?" Chantelle asked immediately while staring at her mother suspiciously.

Chantelle didn’t show any emotion when she saw Ruby.

"It’s really you, Chantelle! You’re back! I missed you!" Ruby couldn’t leave anymore now that Chantelle was at the door. She gave Thea a sharp look, then walked over to Chantelle, pretending to be a concerned mother.

She reached out to hug her, but Chantelle stepped away.

"Where have you been all this time? I’ve been so worried. I’m glad you’re okay." Ruby looked awkward after missing the hug and tried to cover it up.

Still, she reached for Chantelle’s hand again.

This time, Chantelle had no time to avoid her as Thea spoke up.

"What? Did I hear that right? You’re saying Chantelle is your daughter? But you’re Mrs. Lowe, right? Chantelle’s last name is Bently. Did you get married again? I never heard about that..." she said, cutting in at the perfect moment.

Ruby’s face darkened instantly.

"Excuse me, I’ve been telling you that you’ve got the wrong person. I’m Chantelle’s mother. It’s Mrs. Bently, not Mrs. Lowe. Get your facts straight." She tried to sound serious, using her status to cover up.

"That can’t be true. I have the store’s security footage on my phone. Let me pull it up."

"What are you trying to do here, Miss?" Thea’s refusal to drop the issue made Ruby step closer and whisper a warning.

"What’s the matter? Is Mrs. Lowe trying to silence me?" Thea whispered back, unbothered.

To others, it just looked like they were quietly talking.

Chantelle understood what Thea was trying to do just by looking at her. She stayed silent.

"Name your price," Ruby said, clenching her teeth.

I knew this woman came here looking for trouble!

"A hundred thousand!" Thea’s demand wasn’t too harsh.

"Why don’t you just go out and steal instead?!" Ruby shouted, barely holding back her anger.

Ruby tightened her grip on Thea’s arm.

But Thea wasn’t someone who backed down. As soon as she felt the pain, she raised her voice.

"Hold on, Chantelle. Mrs. Lowe and I are still checking the footage!"

"Shut up, bitch! Fine—one hundred thousand. You’ll get it tonight!"

"Nope. Pay now and I’ll shut my mouth. You wouldn’t want Chantelle finding out her mom had a lover, right? Or maybe Mr. Bently has no clue he’s being cheated by you either!"

Thea lamented, not giving Ruby any chance to bargain.

Ruby had to rely on Chantelle to move up her status in the society. Their family image had to stay clean. She knew Chantelle wasn’t really her daughter, but Chantelle didn’t know that.

If Roman ever found out about her affair with James, he wouldn’t forgive her. He would never let her pretend to be Chantelle’s mother.

She would lose everything.

She clenched her teeth and pulled out her phone to send the money to Thea.

Thea got the money and walked over to Chantelle.

"I’m sorry, Chantie. It was a mistake. Mrs. Bently just looked a lot like Mrs. Lowe, who came to my shop the other day. I messed up. Don’t let this hurt your relationship."

"She didn’t know what she was saying, Chantelle. Don’t think too much about it."

"I’m glad it was just a mistake. But we have guests today. If there’s nothing else you wanna say, I’ll have to ask you to leave, Mrs. Bently."

"Come on, Thea. Everyone’s waiting."

Thea already got what she needed from Ruby. Chantelle didn’t need her anymore. She shut the door before Ruby could say another word.

"Huh? Chantelle? Chantelle! I still have so much to tell you. You can’t treat your mother like this!"

She had just lost $100,000, and Chantelle still pushed her away.

No one opened the door no matter how loud she yelled.

That’s when she realized she had been tricked.

That girl must have worked with Chantelle to fool her!

She was seconds away from losing her temper.

Inside the villa.

Thea held onto Chantelle’s arm and burst out laughing.

"Hahaha, did you see her face? That was so funny!"

"You’re celebrating too early. She’s the type to get revenge. You need to be careful from now on." Chantelle was clearly pleased after seeing Ruby get fooled, but she was still very cautious.

"Don’t worry. I’ll watch my back. Here, you get a share too!" Thea giggled as she sent money to Chantelle’s account.

"Golden Child has received a transaction of $50,000..."

Chantelle saw the notification on her phone and shook her head at Thea.

"Thanks for your generous gift!"

"You’re now in charge of keeping me safe! Is Mr. Wilson and his boy toy still here? Maybe I’ll just hide out here for a few days."
