Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 142: That Murderer Still Alive?

Chapter 142: Chapter 142: That Murderer Still Alive?

News about Chantelle’s live stream quickly spread online. Everyone in Easthan now knew that the real lady of the Wilson family, Chantelle Bently, was back.

In the video, Daniel confirmed her identity himself.

Netizens recorded the audio and even used it for drama clips. It caused a huge wave of attention online.

On his way back from Brittin Memorial Garden, Ashton was already getting calls from reporters.

They wanted to know the truth about Daniel and Chantelle. But Ashton couldn’t answer anything without asking Daniel first.

After finishing the omelets at Silver Crest Global District, Daniel asked Chantelle to take the kids back to Western Hill Villa.

He then returned to the Wilson Group Of Companies to handle some work. Ashton followed him there as soon as he arrived.

"Sir, have you seen what’s trending on Twitter?" Ashton asked. "Social media is blowing up. People are asking about Mrs. Wilson, Railer, and Kane. Should we give a clear explanation?"

As someone who worked with high society for over a decade, Ashton knew how dangerous too much attention online could be—especially for Chantelle and the kids.

"Mrs. Wilson?" Daniel repeated Asthon’s words blankly.

"Uh, I mean Ms. Chantelle..." Ashton quickly corrected himself, thinking he had messed up.

"No," Daniel said firmly. "Stick with Mrs. Wilson. Chantelle is the only lady of the Wilson family."

"Yes, sir!" Ashton replied, relieved.

Thank God. I almost lost my job!

"Tell the media to back off. I don’t want them bothering Chantelle or the kids."

"Yes, sir. But a few reporters are asking for an interview. Should we delay it like before?" Ashton asked carefully. He noticed Daniel didn’t seem to mind the news getting out this time. That’s why he brought it up.

After all, Kate never got this far. Daniel always turned her down whenever she wanted publicity.

But with Chantelle, it was different.

"Pick someone reliable. I’ll give them thirty minutes."

"Huh?" Ashton blinked, surprised by Daniel’s reply.

So his instinct was right all along.

"What? Do you have a problem with that?" Daniel asked, eyeing him.

"No, sir," Ashton replied quickly.

"Is there anything else?"

"Well, your earlier assumption about Lone Wolf was correct, sir. We searched the mountain stream but couldn’t find Lone Wolf’s body. What’s strange is that there’s no footage of him leaving either..."

It was as if Lone Wolf had disappeared without a trace.

"Stop the search. If he’s alive, he’ll come back," Daniel said calmly. The Lone Wolf he knew would never back down until his job was done.

Daniel would be ready to drag him back to hell when that happened.

"In that case... will Mrs. Wilson and the children be in danger again?" Ashton asked and his face was filled with worry.

Lone Wolf was a madman. He led an assassin group, and no one can predict what he’d do next.

"That is a problem," Daniel said. "Come with me after work to pick up Chantelle and the kids."

He didn’t mind Ashton bringing it up—it gave him the perfect reason to go there.

Though he looked like he was thinking it over, Daniel’s face was calm. He was clearly in a good mood.

"That’s a good idea!" Ashton agreed right away.

It felt like Chantelle’s return had brought Daniel back to life. He looked brighter and more alive.

"There’s one more thing, Mr. Wilson. We found out Kate Bently might still be alive."

"Oh?"

"I overheard a call Ruby got this morning. The voice on the line was definitely Kate’s."

"So either someone saved her... or someone is holding her."

"That’s possible."

"Get some men and track her down!" She was the one who killed Grandpa Wesley. She couldn’t get away with the punishment sooner.

"Right away, sir!"

At the Bently apartment.

Roman Bently hadn’t been the same since Mrs. Lowe kicked him out. He stayed inside all day, drinking and sleeping.

His face was covered in stubble, and he’d gain some weight. He looked worse each day.

Ruby never came back after he left her. His clothes and valuables were still in the lost and found box. He never bothered to look for them.

Even if he did, it wouldn’t fix anything.

The one-month deadline was getting close. The company had no money left. They still hadn’t paid their staff.

The Bentlys were now totally bankrupt.

Roman lay on the floor, staring at the ceiling. He had no money. He didn’t even know where his next meal would come from. Maybe he’d starve in three days.

It was all Kate’s fault. She took everything when she ran off and didn’t leave him a single cent. Raising her was the biggest mistake of his life.

Even after Mrs. Lowe threw him out, he kept calling Kate—sometimes over a hundred times a day. He just wanted a bit of the money she took. But she never picked up.

Roman believed she betrayed him. Not even the police report or the video changed his mind.

Kate ran with the money and left him with nothing. So, he gave up.

Living felt too hard.

He lay flat on the floor and hands rested on his chest like someone already dead.

He thought he’d be in a better place soon. Then, a loud ringtone echoed through the room.

Probably another debt collector. He kept his eyes closed and had no plan of answering the call.

After three rings, it stopped. That was fine with him.

But then, a knock on the door snapped him out of it.

"Mr. Bently, it’s Kingsley. Did you see the news? Ms. Chantelle is back. She’s alive!"

"Ms. Chantelle? My daughter, Chantelle?" Roman struggled to remember her face.

He didn’t feel happy but just scared. He jumped up and opened the door barefoot.

"What did you say? That murderer is still alive?"

Roman felt like the unluckiest man alive. Kate had angered Daniel and left him in this mess. And now Chantelle, the murderer, was still alive. That only made things worse.

He stared at Kingsley, hoping he had heard wrong. But Kingsley repeated the news with even more excitement.

"You heard me right, sir. Ms. Chantelle is back. Mr. Wilson just announced that she’s his wife and the lady of the Wilson family!"

"What?!" Roman couldn’t believe it.

Daniel had always hated Chantelle. Now he was calling her his wife?

Roman didn’t know what to think.

Roman felt like he was about to have a stroke. It was too much for him to handle.
