Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Win and I’ll Buy It for You
Su Lu couldn’t help but watch him.
Especially during a sharp turn, her body leaned towards the car door with inertia, yet her gaze uncontrollably drifted towards Bo Jingshen.
And he looked so composed, his eyes unchanging, overly calm. As if he’d experienced this too many times, so much that he’d become numb to it. Even at such speeds, there was no sign of excitement, let alone adrenaline—his emotional fluctuations were minimal.
All that remained was increasingly accurate timing and orderly gear shifting, accelerating, decelerating, turning, and straight-line speeding up.
Su Lu tilted her head, trying to look behind to see how far the chasing car was, but with a large helmet on, it felt like her whole body had become clumsy; she could only awkwardly look at the rearview mirror on her side.
The car right behind was Jiang Li’s white vehicle, biting close. Each time they took a turn, the gap in technique and control would show a little. Bo Jingshen would pull away from Jiang Li, but on the straights, the gap was not so noticeable and Jiang Li could even close the distance a bit.
"I can’t help but feel..." Su Lu muttered to herself.
Her voice was faint, and she meant it to be a murmur thinking that Bo Jingshen wouldn’t hear.
Unexpectedly, he actually heard and, despite the circumstance, he didn’t seem to be so focused that he couldn’t talk to her, emitting a low interrogative hum, "Hm?"
Su Lu said, "I can’t help but feel that Ah Li’s car seems to go a bit faster than yours on the straights? It must be my imagination..."
Bo Jingshen let out a low laugh, "Su Xiaolu is quite perceptive, it’s a shame not to be a navigator."
Su Lu felt a bit embarrassed and fell silent.
Bo Jingshen took another turn and pulled away from Jiang Li, but during the immediate straight-line speedup, Jiang Li seemed to recover a little of the distance gained in the turn.
That’s when Bo Jingshen said, "That Ji Fulian, I don’t know who he is, but he’s obviously biased towards Jiang Li. The cars have a very slight discrepancy, a very small one."
Indeed, there was a discrepancy, so small it wasn’t obvious, which became a little apparent during straight-line acceleration. Bo Jingshen, of course, noticed it, but he didn’t mind.
He was far from the poor kid who needed to live and save money for business by betting on car races.
So, if the car was a little faster or slower, it wasn’t a big deal as long as it wasn’t too outrageous.
What Bo Jingshen didn’t expect was that Su Lu would be so perceptive to even notice such a minor difference.
Hearing this, Su Lu gripped the car door’s handle tightly and widened her eyes, "Does this count as the racetrack owner leading cheating?"
"If you really want to count it as such, it’s not impossible. However, such a minuscule difference usually doesn’t have a noticeable impact and is not easily detected," Bo Jingshen said.
Su Lu wanted to say more but glanced sideways and saw that Bo Jingshen’s gaze remained composed, even carrying a carefree disdain, "But it doesn’t matter, he won’t win anyway. Jiang Er has never beaten me. This will at most make his loss look less embarrassing."
This wasn’t just bragging. It was the confidence built up from the records of race after race.
And sure enough, even though Jiang Li could close the gap slightly on the straights, he never had the advantage in the turns, so Bo Jingshen kept the distance within a relatively fixed range. Until the last lap, Jiang Li was unable to narrow that gap.
Bo Jingshen’s car charged across the finish line like a blaze of fire.
Then came Jiang Li’s car, close behind, and actually, the rest of the cars were somewhat farther off, crossing the line only after a moment.
The two of them had pulled quite a distance from the cars behind.
Ji Fuling was a bit excited, his face slightly red as he eagerly said, "Ah Li, who is that? He looks like a noble son, not someone who seems to race cars. How can he be so ruthless?"
Jiang Li replied, "Appearances can be deceiving."
Jiang Li thought to himself that the first time he saw Bo Jingshen in a competition, he mistook him for a cafe waiter because he was dressed in a white shirt and trousers, the only thing missing was an apron to complete the cafe waiter look.
Who would have known he was such a tough character?
The drivers got out of their cars one after another, all looking towards Bo Jingshen and Jiang Li.
Before, none of them paid any attention to these two, thinking they were just friends of the boss who cut in line without any real skill. Who knew there would be such a reversal?
So everyone complained to Ji Fulian, "Fuling, that’s not fair of you, suddenly bringing in such a strong reinforcement!"
But since they all were regulars here and followed the rules,
Complaints were just complaints, and there was no real trouble.
The process of settling the prize money went incredibly smoothly.
Su Lu watched as Bo Jingshen twirled a card between his fingers and couldn’t help but ask quietly, "Is that it?"
Bo Jingshen raised an eyebrow and glanced at her, "What else?"
Su Lu shrugged, "I thought there would be some special procedure or something."
"There’s already nothing about this that could be discussed openly, the simpler the procedure the better," Bo Jingshen said.
Back when he did this abroad, it wasn’t even a card involved, but straight forward cash, simple and clear.
Bo Jingshen handed the card to Su Lu.
Su Lu: "Huh?"
"Haven’t we just talked about this? You liked that white car, and if we won, I’d buy one for you," Bo Jingshen said in an indifferent tone, as if it was an offhand remark.
The card contained 50% of the prize money they had just won, and after the registration fee and such, it came to nearly six million.
This money had come really easily...
However, Bo Jingshen actually handed it over to her directly, which Su Lu found somewhat unexpected.
Just as she was about to refuse, an uninvited guest took a seat, on the sofa next to them.
"Jingshen, not bad with your skills, huh?" Tang Cheng held a cup in his hand, filled with lemon water, and very smoothly offered it to Su Lu, "Thirsty, right? Not used to the adrenaline rush that comes with this kind of speed can make your throat parched. I guzzled down a bellyful of water as soon as I got out."
Su Lu took the cup, but Tang Cheng’s words seemed...
She paused, blinked rapidly, could it be that it wasn’t Tang Cheng who was driving just now? She might have had a gender bias about it and subconsciously thought that it was Tang Cheng driving, with Jing Ruo just sitting in the passenger seat like she did earlier, just participating in the thrill of it all.
She hadn’t expected that it was actually Jing Ruo driving and Tang Cheng was the passenger?
Su Lu looked at Bo Jingshen and then thought of that girl with slightly curled long hair, elegant and beautiful. She felt that, although Bo Jingshen didn’t admit it, those two... might actually be siblings.
"Thank you, Mr. Tang." Su Lu thanked him and accepted the cup.
She did not notice the tightly wound edge of the emotions in the man next to her.
Therefore, when she took the cup and was about to drink, the cup was swiftly snatched away, which was completely unexpected for Su Lu.
