Chapter 996: 982. Fainted from sheer fright (2) Chapter 996: 982. Fainted from sheer fright (2) Black Jack and Bai Jue were the first to get off the plane, followed closely by Jian Qing and Quan Jingwu who were holding their two little treasures. Seeing that the little ones were fine, Grandpa Jian breathed a sigh of relief.

The next second, his gaze was drawn to the person cradled in Mo Xiao’s arms.

It was…

His eyes narrowed slightly, his excitement uncontrollable.

“Grandpa!”

Jian Qing held Xiao Nineteen and saw the unmistakable excitement in Grandpa Jian’s eyes, her lips curving into a slight smile.

“Sister!” Jian Luo looked anxiously at Jian Qing, wanting a definite answer.

Jian Qing’s lips curved into a smile, “Mom is too tired, let her sleep a bit.”

At these words, Jian Luo’s face broke into a radiant smile.

“Weiwei!” Grandpa Jian’s eyes brimmed with tears as he looked at the person in Mo Xiao’s arms, his calloused hands trembling slightly as he grasped Jian Wei’s hand.

Perhaps woken by everyone’s voices, Jian Wei slowly came to, her drowsy appearance making Mo Xiao’s heart melt into a mess.

“Weiwei!”

Grandpa Jian’s voice was very soft, filled with irrepressible excitement.

Jian Wei looked up and met Grandpa Jian’s shining, tearful eyes, and her own eyes promptly reddened, feeling choked up and unable to speak.

After a moment, she held Grandpa Jian’s hand and found her voice, “Dad!”

“It’s good you’re back, it’s good you’re back…” Grandpa Jian wiped away his tears, gripping her hand tightly, his smile nearly reaching the back of his head.

“Grandpa, let’s go inside and talk,” Jian Qing suggested warmly, watching this tender scene, “Mom is back now; she won’t disappear again.”

Grandpa Jian’s smile was radiant as everyone made their way into the living room.

“Old Qin, hurry and tell the kitchen to prepare some food, and bring some cakes and snacks for Seventeen and Nineteen.”

As soon as they entered the house, Grandpa Jian wasted no time in giving orders.

Uncle Qin looked at Jian Qing and the others who had all returned safely, his gaze landing on Jian Wei who had come back from the ‘dead,’ a thrilled smile tugging at his lips.

“Alright, I’ll get on it right away.”

Everyone settled down on the couch, and Mo Xiao poured a glass of water, carefully bringing it to Jian Wei’s lips, a gesture of care that brought knowing smiles to Jian Qing and Jian Luo’s faces.

Jian Wei didn’t think much of it and took a few sips from his hand.

After drinking the water, Jian Wei looked up to meet Jian Qing’s teasing smile, causing her to pause abruptly.

Eager to see her daughter, now that she had, she didn’t know what to say.

Seeing her discomfort, Jian Qing took the initiative to walk over and sit beside her, her pale hand affectionately looping through her mother’s arm.

“Mom!”

The soft voice caused the deepest tenderness within Jian Wei’s heart to collapse instantly.

She raised her hand to gently stroke Jian Qing’s face, her fingertips trembling.

“Qingqing!”

Jian Qing’s eyes crinkled with a smile as she looked at her, meeting her slightly reddened eyes and teased, “Mom, if you cry, Dad might think I bullied you.”

Jian Wei burst into laughter, dispelling the somber atmosphere instantly.

“You child, what are you saying.”

“And me, and me, Mom, you can’t show favouritism and only care about my sister.” Jian Luo interrupted, squeezing in between Jian Wei and Mo Xiao.

Caught off guard, Mo Xiao almost got pushed off the couch.

He steadied himself on the armrest, his lips twitching slightly.

This darn kid.

Fine, now that he has a wife, his son has turned from a treasure to grass.

Jian Luo affectionately took Jian Wei’s other arm and tilted her head to look at Mo Xiao, tattling to her mother, “Mom, look at Dad, he’s glaring at me.”

Jian Wei looked at her son leaning against her, her eyes warm and tender as she smiled and patted his hand, “It’s okay, Mom’s got your back, glare back at him.”

At this, Jian Luo laughed, and Mo Xiao felt exasperated.

“Hahaha!”

Others laughed heartily, but Mo Xiao became even more sullen.

“Grandpa, lollipop.” Nineteen clutched a lollipop and toddled over to Mo Xiao’s side.

“Nineteen is so thoughtful.” Mo Xiao lifted Nineteen into his arms, deeply touched.

“Nineteen, come here, Daddy will unwrap the lollipop for you.” Quan Jingwu’s thin lips curled into a teasing smile.

Upon hearing Quan Jingwu agree to let him have the lollipop, Nineteen instantly slid out of Mo Xiao’s embrace and scampered back into his own daddy’s arms.

“…”

So the lollipop wasn’t for him after all.

A muscle twitched at the corner of Mo Xiao’s eye.

Crack, crack, Grandpa’s glass heart shattered.

“Dad, here, have a lollipop.” Jian Luo, struggling to suppress his laughter, picked up a lollipop from the table and offered it to Mo Xiao.

“Scram.” Mo Xiao growled fiercely.

“Why are you being fierce to my son?” Jian Wei protected Jian Luo, pouting and glowering at Mo Xiao.

Mo Xiao, “…”

Jian Luo’s eyes narrowed with a smile, and in the end, he even whistled.

Mom is awesome!

Seeing his smug expression, Mo Xiao restrained the urge to beat him with a slipper.

Old Mr. Jian watched the interaction among his family of four with great contentment.

“Mom, we’re going to go upstairs to freshen up before dinner.” After the jokes, Jian Qing’s obsession with cleanliness wouldn’t tolerate the dirty clothes on his body.

“Mhm.” Jian Wei nodded with a smile.

Old Mr. Jian announced, “Alright, everyone go freshen up, dinner will be ready soon.”

Quan Jingwu carried the two little treasures upstairs, followed by Jian Qing, while Mo Xiao also took Jian Wei upstairs to get ready.

Old Mr. Jian, too excited to sit still, dragged Uncle Qin to the kitchen to check on the dinner preparations.

For a moment, only Jian Luo and two others were left in the living room.

Bai Jue leaned back and crossed his legs nonchalantly, “Black Jack, it seems you haven’t greeted your mother-in-law yet, have you?”

Black Jack gave him a sidelong glance, “None of your business.”

Bai Jue wasn’t annoyed, and he said mischievously, “Do you think your mother-in-law could faint from shock after hearing about her son-in-law?”

Black Jack snorted coldly, “You don’t need to worry about that.”

“Come on, we’re brothers. I’m concerned about you. Right, Luo Xiaobai?” Bai Jue said with a smile.

Jian Luo gave him an annoyed glance, “Go where it’s cool and stay there.”

“The husband follows the wife’s lead,” Bai Jue retorted.

Jian Luo teased, “If you’re envious, you’d better hurry up.”

Bai Jue, supporting his head with one hand, thought of his own fiery girl and his lips quirked into a slight smile.

“Prepare your red envelopes then.”

Jian Luo scoffed, “With you being such a playboy, if you want to get married, I think going to sleep and dreaming about it would be quicker for you.”

Bai Jue went silent in embarrassment.

Could they not wish him any good?

In the bedroom, Jian Wei looked at the unchanged room and felt a surge of warmth in her heart.

She picked up the photo frame on the desk. In the picture, she was wearing her hair in a high ponytail dressed in all black, a scene that seemed as if it was just yesterday.

“Weiwei, the bath is ready.” Mo Xiao emerged from the bathroom and, upon seeing her standing, quickly went over to help her.

Jian Wei put down the photo frame and chuckled, “I’m fine; you don’t need to be so careful.”

“No, you still haven’t fully recovered. Just call me if you need anything,” Mo Xiao insisted.

“Ah, fate really is fascinating, isn’t it?” Jian Wei took his hand and mused.

She had been set up by the An Family, but then she had met him, it seemed like fate was determined to tie them together.
