Shen Yan waved his hand, “I’m fine, hurry and inform our people to search around the beach at the bottom of the cliff. We must find Jian Qing before my brother does.”

With the way the rain was pouring, the danger of Jian Qing jumping into the sea multiplied exponentially.

“I understand, Second Young Master, let me take you back first,” A’er said as he helped him up.

Shen Yan shook his head, “No, you go find her now with the others, I can get back by myself.”

Every extra minute now added to Jian Qing’s peril.

Seeing Shen Yan’s pale face, A’er still felt uneasy, “But”

“No buts, do as I say.” Shen Yan cut him off with a command.

A’er nodded reluctantly, “Yes.”

Shen Yan raised his hand to wipe the rain off his face, worry saturating his brow.

Jian Qing, you must be well; otherwise, I won’t have the face to meet your mother again.

Beijing, Quan Family

As the sun set behind the mountains, the afterglow tinged the clouds with red.

“How is it, did Seventeen and the others go to sleep?” the Quan family’s old madam quickly asked Rhee as she saw her come down from upstairs.

Rhee nodded with a smile in her lips, “They’ve gone to sleep.”

“That’s good,” the old lady breathed a sigh of relief.

The two little treasures had been out of sorts all afternoon, showing little appetite and turning away from their food after only a few bites. They had been listlessly lying on their blankets, not responding to anyone’s attempts to cheer them up, without a smile.

In the end, even when they were offered lollipops, Seventeen shockingly showed no interest in them for the first time, alarming the Quan family who thought the children might be ill.

“Right, have you called Jingwu?”

Rhee said, “He’s on his way back now.”

The old lady clasped her hands together, “I hope they’ll cheer up when Jingwu returns.”

Talk of the devil, and he shall appear. Just as they were discussing Quan Jingwu, he came back.

“Grandma, Mom.”

He set down the car keys and quickly walked over, looking haggard as if he had rushed back.

“Where are Seventeen and the others?”

“They just fell asleep,” Rhee said.

He nodded slightly and hurried upstairs.

Pushing open the bedroom door, his gaze immediately fell on the two little treasures on the bed.

He quietly approached, and on the bed, the two treasures were sleeping, heads together, brows slightly furrowed, not sleeping peacefully.

Quan Jingwu bent down, braced his hands on the bed, and kissed the two treasures gently.

Suddenly, Nineteen opened his eyes, his damp violet pupils staring at him, tiny tender arms reaching out, wanting to be held.

Quan Jingwu chuckled softly and picked him up, pinching his little cheek.

“Why are you awake? Are you hungry, hmm?”

“Daddy!” Nineteen leaned on his shoulder, unusually listless.

“What’s wrong, Nineteen? Does something feel uncomfortable?” He reached out with his large hand to feel his forehead for any temperature abnormalities, but there was nothing unusual.

“Daddy, want Mommy,” Nineteen pouted, his eyes gathering moisture.

Nineteen missed Mommy, wanted Mommy’s embrace.

Quan Jingwu gently patted his back, his usually cold voice instantly becoming tender, “Nineteen, Mommy is sleeping now; we don’t want to disturb her. We’ll call her later, okay?”

Nineteen nodded his little head, obediently resting on his shoulder.

Looking at the little guy’s scrunched-up face, Quan Jingwu raised his hand to smooth his soft hair, “Nineteen, do you want a lollipop?”

For the first time ever, Nineteen shook his head, “No.”
