Chapter 914: She actually wants to die (2) Chapter 914: She actually wants to die (2) “What’s the bet?” Bai Jue was also intrigued.
Jian Luo thought for a while and said, “The loser, um… has to cross-dress.”
He definitely needed to get back at Bai Jue for the trick he pulled at the beach last time.
“You haven’t got addicted to it after last time, have you?” Bai Jue teased.
“Get lost.”
After spending some time at Shijin Haoting, remembering that the two little treasures needed to eat, Jian Qing and Quan Jingwu took them and headed back first.
…
The evening breeze was gentle, and the flower buds in the garden swayed in the wind.
In the bedroom, the two little ones were rolling around and playing on the bed, while Jian Qing sat cross-legged nearby, preventing them from falling off.
Quan Jingwu pushed the door open and entered, and a deep color flashed in the depths of his eyes when he saw the two little ones still awake.
“Why haven’t you slept yet?”
“Jingwu, let them sleep with us tonight,” Jian Qing suggested as she scooped up the nearly-rolling-off-the-bed nineteen.
Ever since the two little treasures turned eight months old, they had been sent back to their nursery room to sleep, although they occasionally stayed in their bedroom to sleep.
“Why?” As soon as Quan Jingwu sat down, seventeen and nineteen scrambled into his arms, pushing him backward.
“They haven’t slept with us for two weeks. Just let them stay here for tonight,” Jian Qing said.
The main issue was that the two little ones were still not sleeping so late, clearly determined not to return to their nursery.
“Just one night,” Quan Jingwu said as he looked at the two little ones in his arms and flicked their foreheads gently.
Jian Qing was about to come up with some reason to persuade him and was surprised that he agreed so easily, “Hmm.”
Quan Jingwu took out a storybook, and seventeen and nineteen lay down beside him, waiting for him to read them a bedtime story.
Jian Qing smiled faintly and pulled up the blanket to cover them.
Suddenly, the mobile phone on the bedside table vibrated.
She reached for the phone and saw the number on the caller ID, her gaze darkened abruptly.
Without thinking, she pressed the answer button.
“Boss, Zhao Xuan wants to see you,” a man’s calm voice came through with a hint of respect.
Jian Qing frowned, “How is she doing?”
Zhao Xuan wanting to see her was somewhat odd.
“She should be able to hold out for another week or so,” the man replied.
“Did she say why she wants to see me?”
“No, our people have interrogated her, and she’s tight-lipped, insisting that she will only speak when she sees you,” the man stated.
“I see,” Jian Qing’s eyes flickered, “How is the investigation I asked you to carry out? Any progress?”
“I was actually about to discuss this with you. A few days ago, we found traces of a man named Shen Yan in M Country. He stayed there for a while before leaving, and his current whereabouts are unknown.”
“Have you found out who he has been in contact with?” Jian Qing asked.
“After arriving in M Country, he didn’t go out much, just occasionally walked in the suburbs, then returned. Our men also found another man living in that house. The place is heavily guarded; our men didn’t dare get too close. The man looks somewhat similar to Shen Yan; they must be relatives,” the man reported.
Jian Qing’s eyes gradually turned cold, “I know, I’ll go back in a few days.”
Resembling Shen Yan in appearance, could he be the brother Shen Yan mentioned by Yukiko, Shen Hua.
At some point, the man’s deep voice had gradually ceased, the two babies leaned against each other, their tiny faces pink and soft like carvings of jade, their sleeping expressions peaceful, just like two little angels.
The cell phone was taken away by the man’s large hand and put aside, Jian Qing turned her head, bumping right into his embrace, Quan Jingwu circled her from behind, “What happened?”
Jian Qing instinctively leaned into his arms, “I found traces of Shen Yan, but now he’s disappeared again.”
Without unraveling Shen Yan’s origins, she found it difficult to be at peace.
Moreover, the person in black who had attacked her last time was still undetected, these two matters weighed on her mind like two heavy stones, uncertain when they might surface again.
If it was the past when she was living alone, she wouldn’t be worried, but now with the two babies, she had to be careful.
Upon hearing this, a sharp look flashed through Quan Jingwu’s eyes, “That Shen Yan shouldn’t pose a threat to us, I think the Shen Hua we’ve never met is the one hiding the deepest.”
Jian Qing nodded.
If Shen Yan really wanted to harm her, he had the chance to do so when they were in R Country, but not only did he send her a charm for safety, he also hinted, albeit indirectly, for her to be cautious. All signs suggested that Shen Yan didn’t seem to want to be her enemy, but he appeared to know something, such as who wanted to harm her and yet couldn’t say it outright, so he opted to warn her in secret.
Thinking this, the Shen Hua mentioned by Yukiko seemed very suspicious.
“Right, Zhao Xuan said she has something to tell me.”
Quan Jingwu’s thin lips pursed slightly, “She’s not dead yet?”
“She wishes she were.” Jian Qing sneered.
Throwing her into the wilderness was not meant to let her die easily; being chased and torn by wolf packs every day, then being rescued when she was on her last breath, was designed to make her experience a pain worse than death.
“Xiaojing, I need to make a trip back to M Country in a couple of days.”
He buried his face in her neck and rubbed it, “I’ll accompany you.”
“No, the company is very busy these days; you should stay in Beijing, you can take care of Xiaojing and the others.” She raised her hand to touch his cheek, speaking softly.
“In a while, it will be Grandpa’s birthday, then we can bring Xiaojing and the others back with us.”
Quan Jingwu lifted his head, looking at her with profound eyes, “What should Grandpa do if he misses you?”
“Just miss me.” Meeting his eyes filled with unspoken grievances, she smiled mischievously, “I’ll only be gone for two or three days; I haven’t been to the headquarters in a long time, I need to check in.”
It was the perfect opportunity to meet the people at the headquarters who were undergoing their annual training; she needed to check on the situation.
“You really won’t take me?” He gently pinched her chin, the tender touch making it hard for him to let go.
Jian Qing curved her lips, touched his head, and smoothed his hair, “Stay good in Beijing and wait for me to come back, okay?”
“How about I get some compensation before you leave, hmm?” Quan Jingwu pressed in close, Jian Qing leaned back, and the two fell onto the bed.
“Xiaojing and the others are sleeping with us tonight.” She raised her eyebrows, reminding him.
“Then we’ll go to the study room.” He said.
Jian Qing laughed and scolded, “Get lost.”
“Then I’ll take them back to the nursery room,” Quan Jingwu said, not giving up just yet.
“Then you can soothe them yourself tomorrow.” Jian Qing glanced at the sweetly sleeping babies and said lazily.
Don’t be fooled by how agreeable the babies seemed; once they started throwing tantrums, it was more than the average person could handle. If they woke up tomorrow morning and didn’t see them, there would surely be an uproar.
“Then tomorrow night.” He suggested, stepping back.
