Chapter 896: 882, Who is Really Hidden (2) Chapter 896: 882, Who is Really Hidden (2) “Alright,” Zhan Mingyan responded.

“By the way, Mom, didn’t you and Dad stay over at Grandpa’s house last night? How come you’re back so early?”

Lu Hui set down her bag, “The butler told me you didn’t come home last night, and I couldn’t stop worrying, so I came back early. And your dad had an important meeting this morning, so we came back early.”

“I see,” Zhan Mingyan replied absent-mindedly, her gaze repeatedly flicking towards the inner room.

“Yanyan, how did you get along with Lin Yi yesterday, do you have a good impression of him?” Lu Hui took out the breakfast she had bought and asked casually.

“It’s okay, just friends,” Zhan Mingyan returned her gaze to the breakfast on the table, thinking about Bai Jue still hiding inside, she had no appetite to eat.

“Hurry up and eat while it’s hot, you ate instant noodles again last night,” Lu Hui noticed the uneaten instant noodle cup on the table and started nagging her, “I’ve told you not to always eat instant noodles. It rained last night, why didn’t you come home? It’s not safe for a girl to stay here by herself.”

“Alright, I know, I won’t eat it next time,” Zhan Mingyan interrupted her nagging by throwing away the instant noodle cup into the trash can.

“Not even cleaning up after eating, your room must be a mess too. Eat by yourself, I’ll go tidy your room for you,” Lu Hui rolled up her sleeves and stood up to go to the inner room.

At that, the small steamed bun Zhan Mingyan had just picked up dropped back onto the table, and she hurriedly got up, tripping and banging her knee directly against the corner of the table.

“Hiss—”

She held her knee, grimacing in pain.

“What are you rushing for; where did you hit?” Lu Hui turned around at the sound of her painful cry to check her injury.

“It’s all bruised, you really never let me stop worrying.”

“Mom, I’m fine, a little bruise is nothing,” Zhan Mingyan chuckled, “You know, I’ve tidied up my room. You don’t need to sit down, I’m grown up; I should take care of my own things. There’s no need for you to clean up my room.”

Lu Hui gazed at her suspiciously, “Yanyan, why do I get the feeling you’ve been acting strangely today?”

Zhan Mingyan froze and then gave an awkward laugh, “Strange? Not at all, you bought me breakfast so early in the morning, I was just worried you’d be tired.”

Skeptically eyeing her, Lu Hui was about to speak when a faint noise came from the inner room, causing her to change her expression abruptly.

“Yanyan, did you hear any noise?”

Zhan Mingyan froze, her heart jumping to her throat. “Noise? No, you must have heard wrong.”

This damn Bai Jue, what mischief is he causing inside now?

“No, I really heard something from the inside,” Lu Hui said as she moved closer to the inner room.

“Mom, it’s probably just a mouse. Don’t go in there. The mouse might rush out and scare you when you open the door,” Zhan Mingyan lunged forward, her back pressing against the door.

“Such a big noise from a mouse?” Lu Hui was astonished. “How many mice must it be? Have you been eating some snacks inside and attracted so many mice?”

“No, it’s just… right, it rained last night, and the weather is damp, so the mice have all come out,” Zhan Mingyan scratched her head and made up an excuse on the spot.

“No way, with so many mice, we shouldn’t open for business today. I’ll have the butler bring people over to clean up,” she said.

Seeing her take out her phone, Zhan Mingyan became as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, “Mom, really, there’s no need. I’ll find someone myself to deal with it. Why don’t you go back and rest.”

“Knock knock knock—”

The knocking sounded again, and Zhan Mingyan tensed up all over.

Damn it, could it be Bai Jue’s people bringing him clothes?

“Who could it be so early?”

Lu Hui put down her phone and went to open the door.

“Mom, it’s my delivery, I’ll get the door,” Zhan Mingyan blocked her way and took the lead, “You go sit inside, and I’ll sign for the delivery.”

Lu Hui nodded and walked back to sit on the couch.

That’s odd, who delivers packages so early?

She turned to look at the door, where Zhan Mingyan entered, carrying a bag.

“Yanyan, weren’t you just signing for a package?” Lu Hui eyed the shopping bag in her hand, feeling a sense of familiarity.

“Yeah.” Zhan Mingyan tried to hide the bag behind her back, but Lu Hui, with her sharp eyes, noticed the pattern on the bag, and the smile in her eyes gradually disappeared.

“Yanyan, did you buy clothes for your dad?” The logo on the shopping bag was clearly the exclusive symbol of March’s men’s clothing line.

“Uh-huh.” Zhan Mingyan nodded frantically, trying to gloss over the matter quickly.

“Then let me have a look.”

“Well, Mom, I’ve checked the clothes. They’re a bit too small, so I’m going to exchange them later. I’ll show them to you afterward,” Zhan Mingyan hastily explained as she saw her approaching.

“Just let me see them for now. Your dad has lost some weight recently; they might fit him, and you won’t have to make a trip to exchange them.”

Seeing her mother approaching, Zhan Mingyan felt like she wanted to bang her head against a block of tofu.

She clutched the shopping bag in her hand and mentally cursed Bai Jue thousands of times.

“Why are you hiding it behind your back? Are you saying these clothes aren’t for your dad?” Lu Hui calmly looked at her, her eyes glinting with a sharp, penetrative light.

Zhan Mingyan hesitated, “Uh—”

“Yanyan, are you keeping something from me?”

At those words, Zhan Mingyan’s head shot up, her eyes anxiously fixed on her mother, “No.”

“Hehe!”

Lu Hui couldn’t help but chuckle, “Yanyan, ever since you were little, whenever you lied, you would always stare at me, as if afraid I wouldn’t believe you.”

“Mom, I…”

Lu Hui cut her off, “All right, who exactly is hiding in the back room?”

She had been distracted since earlier, and when she heard about going to the back room, Zhan Mingyan had become almost frantic. Plus, now there was a delivery of men’s clothing. Even if she was slow to catch on, she knew there had to be something fishy going on.

Seeing she couldn’t hide it anymore, Zhan Mingyan forced a wry smile and made a last-ditch effort, “Mom, it’s really nothing. These are clothes for dad, take a look.”

“If you won’t say, then I’ll go take a look myself.” Lu Hui ignored the shopping bag she was offering and headed straight to the back room.

“Mom, don’t be rash, please,” Zhan Mingyan pleaded as she saw her grasp the doorknob and quickly wrapped her arms around her mother’s arm.

“I’ll talk, can’t I just tell the truth?”

Lu Hui withdrew her hand and looked at her with a half-smile, “Give me one minute to explain.”

A woman’s mouth lies like a ghost—there’s some truth in that saying.

“Mom, go sit on the couch for a bit, wait just two minutes for me,” Zhan Mingyan said, big-headed and on the verge of tears.

“Hurry up and explain,” Lu Hui glared at her, then walked over to the couch.

Zhan Mingyan breathed a sigh of relief, took out the keys to unlock the door, then quickly dashed inside and promptly shut the door behind her.

“Zhan Mingyan, where did you crash into?”

Before she could catch her breath, a man’s deep voice came from above her head.
