Chapter 891: 877, keep an eye on (3) Chapter 891: 877, keep an eye on (3) “Mom!” Zhan Mingyan fell to the ground.
As expected, there was still a move waiting for her.
“If you don’t go, it just means you’re interested in Bai Jue,” Lu Hui said leisurely.
“Fine, fine, I’ll go, okay?” It’s just a meal, what’s the big deal.
“You said it yourself, ha, then I’ll go ahead and confirm the time and place for you,” Lu Hui glanced at her and slowly took out her phone, teasing, “You better not regret it later.”
“Whatever.” Zhan Mingyan suddenly felt her life was bleak.
“Yanyan, you’d better not stand him up again this time,” Lu Hui cautioned worriedly. This brat always had her cleaning up the mess after she bailed on people.
“I got it.”
Lu Hui handled things with swift efficiency, especially when it concerned her daughter’s lifelong matters, putting in both heart and effort.
By the time the sun set behind the mountains, Lu Hui had already confirmed the time and place, dropping Zhan Mingyan off at the entrance of Qianshi Restaurant before she headed back herself.
Lastly, she said with a smile, “Yanyan, make sure you perform well.”
Standing at the entrance to Qianshi Restaurant, Zhan Mingyan felt utterly disheveled.
“…”
Perform what my ass.
After hesitating for a while, she let out a sigh and walked in anyway.
She took out her phone to check the message from Lu Hui, looked at the private room number, and slowly made her way upstairs.
Just thinking about how awkward the upcoming scene would be, she suddenly felt the urge to turn tail and run.
But if she really stood him up, would her mother come after her with a forty-meter-long sword, and even worse, would she become convinced that Zhan Mingyan liked Bai Jue?
Forget it, just eat and dash.
“Mingyan, why are you here?”
While she was mentally bracing herself, a voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts, startling Zhan Mingyan.
“Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost when you see me?” Quan Mingxuan approached, asking with a tinge of amusement at her flustered state.
Zhan Mingyan put away her phone, “What are you doing here?”
Quan Mingxuan’s lips curved into a smile, “Isn’t it normal for me to be here?”
“…” Zhan Mingyan smacked her forehead, almost forgetting that Qianshi Restaurant was his territory.
“Are you here to have dinner alone?” Quan Mingxuan asked.
“Uh, with a friend.”
Catching the fleeting unease in her eyes, Quan Mingxuan’s eyebrows lifted, and a teasing smile formed on his lips.
His gaze shifted, feigning casualness as he asked, “It can’t be your boyfriend, can it?”
“No, just a friend, a regular friend,” Zhan Mingyan replied without hesitation.
Little did she know that the more she emphasized, the more Quan Mingxuan suspected there was something fishy.
To not deny it meant it was a male friend.
He chuckled, “Alright, I won’t disturb your meal with your friend. Order anything you’d like, put it on my tab.”
“Then thank you very much,” Zhan Mingyan said with a smile.
Quan Mingxuan waved his hand, “I’ll be off then, call me if you need anything.”
“Sure.”
As she watched him leave, Zhan Mingyan sighed in relief, then proceeded to search for the reserved private room.
Around the corner, Quan Mingxuan, watching Zhan Mingyan ascend the stairs, curled his lips slightly and dialed a number on his phone.
“Find out which private room Zhan Mingyan has booked.”
He had a feeling that there would be a good show to witness soon. Should he invite Ayue to join in on the fun? He stroked his chin, and after a moment, his phone vibrated. He pressed the answer button, and whatever the person on the other end said made his smile deepen.
After hanging up the phone, he dialed Bai Jue’s mobile number.
“Bai Jue, want to come to Qianshi Restaurant?”
“What’s the situation?” Bai Jue glanced at the gaming screen, pressed pause, and beside him, Jian Luo gave him a side glance while fiddling with the game controller.
“Mingyan is dining here, are you coming?” Quan Mingxuan walked to the railing, looked down at the bustling crowd coming and going, and said indifferently.
Hearing that Zhan Mingyan was there, Bai Jue’s eyes lit up, but then he thought of how Zhan Mingyan was currently repelling him, and his eyes dimmed, “Forget it, I won’t go, let her have a good meal.”
“That’s true, it’s better if you don’t come, so you won’t be a third wheel,” Quan Mingxuan said with a wicked smile, pretending to speak carelessly.
“What do you mean?” Just as he was about to hang up the phone, upon hearing the words “third wheel,” Bai Jue instantly became as excited as if he had been injected with adrenaline.
“It’s nothing, just that Mingyan invited a friend to dine here,” Quan Mingxuan added, “Oh, and it’s a man.”
“Keep an eye on him for me.”
After dropping that line, Bai Jue promptly hung up.
“Tsk tsk, I couldn’t be smarter,” Quan Mingxuan toyed with his phone, his smile wicked.
On the other side, Bai Jue threw down the game console, ran to the entrance to put on shoes, and Jian Luo was taken aback.
“Bai Jue, where are you going?”
“To extinguish a love rival,” Bai Jue said while putting on his shoes.
Jian Luo burst into laughter, leaned over to grab the car keys from the table, and threw them to him, “Catch.”
“Thanks.”
Bai Jue caught the keys and rushed out of the door.
Jian Luo, listening to the sound of the car engine starting outside, couldn’t help but laugh.
Unaware of the detailed information Quan Mingxuan had leaked to Bai Jue, Zhan Mingyan faced the man opposite her with some slight embarrassment.
“Um, Mr. Lin, are you hungry? Shall we order?” She thought, let’s hurry up and finish eating so everyone can go back home to their own mothers.
Lin Yi smiled lightly, adjusting the glasses on the bridge of his nose, “Mingyan, considering that our families have known each other for some time, you don’t have to be so formal. You can call me Ahao or Big Brother Lin.”
“Big Brother Lin, there are a few good dishes at Qianshi Restaurant, let’s order first,” Zhan Mingyan picked up the cue, two out of three sentences about ordering food.
“Sure, you don’t have to cater to my tastes. Order whatever you like, I’m not picky,” Lin Yi said.
“Alright,” Zhan Mingyan said with a light smile.
After ordering the dishes, Zhan Mingyan felt awkward again.
“Mingyan, I heard from your mother that you used to be a doctor?” Lin Yi started the conversation, his gentle voice not at all displeasing.
“Yes, I was a Military Doctor in the Troops,” Zhan Mingyan said.
“So what made you think of opening a flower shop?”
“I wanted to experience a different kind of life.”
The two carried on a question-and-answer conversation, but the atmosphere turned a bit cold again.
“Uh, I heard Big Brother Lin is usually abroad, what made you think of coming back? Are you planning to develop your career back home?” After some thought, Zhan Mingyan finally initiated a question.
Lin Yi said, “I’m considering it. The main reason for this visit is my grandmother’s birthday banquet.”
Zhan Mingyan hummed a response and didn’t intend to continue the conversation.
“Mingyan, do you like watching movies?” Lin Yi suddenly asked.
“They’re okay.”
“How about we go see a movie after dinner? There’s a new one that’s just been released, and I heard from friends it’s quite good,” he invited.
Zhan Mingyan hesitated, wracking her brains for an excuse to decline. A direct refusal seemed too hurtful, but she didn’t want to agree either.
What to do now?
“Sorry to interrupt.”
A familiar voice rang out, and Zhan Mingyan’s eyes widened.
