Chapter 865: 851, are you concerned about me? (2) Chapter 865: 851, are you concerned about me? (2) He picked up the chopsticks and placed them in Zhan Mingyan’s hand, then held the food box out in front of her, “Eat it while it’s hot, it won’t taste good when it cools down.”

Zhan Mingyan held the chopsticks, staring at the crab dumplings in the food box without moving.

Was it a coincidence?

How did he know her favorite was Qianshi Restaurant’s crab dumplings?

Lu Hui also saw the content of the food box and smiled slightly.

“Don’t you like it?” Bai Jue frowned slightly. He had clearly inquired that this was her favorite dish. Could the information have been wrong?

“I’m not hungry,” Zhan Mingyan said expressionlessly, placing the chopsticks back on the table.

Bai Jue put down the food box. Seeing her looking down, he crouched beside her and grasped her hand, “If you’re not hungry, then eat a little with me. I didn’t eat dinner last night or breakfast this morning, okay?”

Warmth from the man’s palm radiated to her, and Zhan Mingyan’s gaze flickered, almost reflexively reaching towards his forehead.

“You have a fever.”

Her indifference faltered, revealing a hint of anxiety in the depths of her eyes.

Bai Jue captured the concern in her eyes. His lips thinned into a smile, “Are you concerned about me?”

Zhan Mingyan paused for a moment, quickly looked away from his gaze, and withdrew her hand.

“I’m a doctor. It’s normal to be concerned about a patient. Since you’re not feeling well, you should go back right away.”

Seeing her expression turn cold again, Bai Jue felt somewhat disheartened.

“Bai Jue, if you’re not feeling well, just rest here for a bit. The sun outside is so harsh; it wouldn’t be good if you got heatstroke,” Lu Hui spoke up.

Upon hearing this, Bai Jue agreed without hesitation, “Thank you, Auntie.”

Lu Hui’s smile beamed, but Zhan Mingyan felt gloomy. She couldn’t help but wonder, was she really her own mother?

“Alright, Yanyan, you didn’t eat much for breakfast either. Hurry up and eat something with Bai Jue. If you don’t like it, I’ll go buy it for you myself,” Lu Hui said.

Zhan Mingyan held her forehead, watching Lu Hui pick up her purse and stand up, quickly stopping her, “No need, I’ll eat. Don’t you trouble yourself, please.”

With the sun so strong, if she let her mother run back and forth to buy her food, her father would definitely scold her upon finding out.

Hearing that, Lu Hui smiled contentedly, winked at Bai Jue, who responded by giving her a thumbs-up behind his back. The two seemed to communicate effortlessly.

“Eat,” Bai Jue said, picking up the chopsticks again and placing them in her hand.

“I can manage it myself.” Zhan Mingyan took the food box and moved her hips to the side, creating some distance between them.

Seeing this, Bai Jue was not in a rush. He picked up his own pair of chopsticks and began eating breakfast.

He knew the adage ‘Haste makes waste,’ so he would take it slow, waiting until she was willing to forgive and accept him.

The two ate breakfast in silence, without any conversation.

After a couple of bites, Zhan Mingyan put down her chopsticks and stopped eating. With her appetite gone, Bai Jue no longer felt like eating either and packed up the food box and chopsticks.

“I’ve had my breakfast, you can go now,” Zhan Mingyan urged, eager to get rid of him, “I have work to do, I can’t host you.”

“I can help,” Bai Jue changed the subject.

“Your help isn’t needed, I can manage on my own,” she refused.

Bai Jue was deflated once more but helpless. After all, he was the one who had rejected her initially.

“Yanyan, the man has just eaten; why are you so eager to send him away? You go busy yourself. I’m just sitting here bored, and since Bai Jue is here, he can keep me company and help pass the time,” Lu Hui intervened once again.

Bai Jue looked at Lu Hui with gratitude and spoke before Zhan Mingyan could, “I would also like to have a chat with Auntie.”

Zhan Mingyan watched the two of them play off each other, fuming.

They must be mother and son, she’s probably picked up from a garbage can.

“Store Manager, where should these flowers be placed?” Xiaoqing’s voice came from not too far away, and Zhan Mingyan stood up and walked over.

As soon as she left, Lu Hui immediately turned to Bai Jue, eagerly asking, “Bai Jue, how old are you this year?”

“Twenty-six,” Bai Jue said.

The two were not whispering, so Zhan Mingyan heard everything clearly.

She felt a bit crazy and couldn’t help regretting letting her mother come along to the flower shop that day.

Why ask someone those questions, making it seem like checking their household registration, as if it’s a matchmaking session.

“How many people are there in your family?”

“None, just me,” he replied nonchalantly.

Hearing this, Lu Hui was stunned for a moment, then apologetically said, “Bai Jue, I’m sorry, I…”

Bai Jue curled his lips into a smile, interrupting her, “It’s fine, Auntie, I won’t take it to heart. It’s just me in my family. My parents split up when I was very young, and I’ve always lived with my grandfather, who passed away a few years ago.”

Zhan Mingyan mindlessly fiddled with the bouquet in her hands, her heart tumultuous from what Bai Jue had just shared.

It was her first time hearing him talk about his family, and she inexplicably felt a bit sorry for him.

Hearing this, Lu Hui sympathized with him, “Bai Jue, if you don’t mind, you can often come over to our place for dinner, seeing as you and Yanyan are good friends.”

“Sure, thank you so much, Auntie. Just don’t get tired of me coming over too often,” Bai Jue seamlessly joined the conversation.

Lu Hui was amused by him, “How about this, you come over tonight, and I’ll personally cook a table full of dishes for you to try.”

“It seems Yanyan’s culinary skills are a true inheritance from you, Auntie,” Bai Jue said with a smile, glancing over at Zhan Mingyan.

“You’ve had Yanyan’s cooking?” Lu Hui’s eyes sparkled, as if she caught a whiff of some exciting gossip.

Bai Jue nodded, “A few times.”

A few times indeed.

Lu Hui’s smile deepened, as she knew her daughter Yanyan very well; she wouldn’t easily cook for anyone other than family, especially not for a man.

“How did it taste?”

“Delicious,” Bai Jue reminisced about the meals she cooked on Solak Island, his lips curving into a smile.

No one dislikes praise for their own child, and Lu Hui was no exception, feeling delighted, she directly asked, “Then what do you think of my daughter Yanyan?”

Hearing this, Zhan Mingyan couldn’t stay calm anymore, rushed over in a panic, and grabbed Lu Hui’s hand, “Mom!”

“What’s wrong?” Lu Hui looked at her innocently, her smile unwavering.

Zhan Mingyan was flustered, turned to Bai Jue, and issued an order for him to leave, “You better go now, I still have things to take care of.”

If the two stayed together any longer, who knows, her mother might actually sell her off.

“I’ll help you,” Bai Jue couldn’t help but chuckle as he stood up and walked over to her.

“Right, right, many hands make light work, you go ahead and get busy; I’ll just sit here and drink tea,” Lu Hui hurriedly said, knowing Zhan Mingyan would surely refuse.

She pushed one with each hand, exerting all her strength to bring the two together.

“Go on, get busy; don’t worry about me.”

Zhan Mingyan rolled her eyes, internally calling for her father to come quickly and take her mother away.

“Where do these flowers need to be moved?” Bai Jue looked at the various flowers on the table, a bit dazzled.

Zhan Mingyan stopped him, speaking faintly, “You don’t need to; these are ordered by someone else, just need to trim the leaves and then package them.”
