Chapter 803: 789, You are her inner demon (3) Chapter 803: 789, You are her inner demon (3) After the meal, Quan Jingwu cleaned up the dishes and utensils, with Jian Qing trailing behind him like a little tail.
Quan Jingwu put the dishes into the dishwasher and after washing his hands, he turned around to look at her and said with a chuckle, “What’s the matter?”
Jian Qing’s smile was brimming, and she cocked her head to look at him, “Nothing.”
“Then why keep following me? Didn’t I tell you to sit outside? What if you bump into something?” Quan Jingwu reached out to pull her into his embrace and pinched her chin with his long fingers, pecking her lips lightly.
Jian Qing looked up at him and grinned, “No reason, I just wanted to follow you.”
The sight of the woman’s beaming smile touched his heart. Quan Jingwu’s gaze deepened as he concealed his contemplative thoughts. He ruffled her hair and asked, “Would you like some fruit?”
She shook her head, leaning into his chest.
He had just woken up, how could she bear to keep him busy?
“Then let’s go to the living room, and I’ll play games with you, okay?” he said.
“Okay.”
Quan Jingwu effortlessly picked her up and carried her out of the kitchen.
Afterwards, the sound of game music echoed continuously in the living room.
On the couch, Jian Qing stretched out her legs, with her upper body leaning against Quan Jingwu’s embrace. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and held the tablet with both hands to make it easier for her to play.
Quan Jingwu noticed that the person in his embrace was distracted, a shadow of concern quickly swept across his eyes.
Normally, she was always very interested in playing games. Today was the exact opposite; she even failed simple game challenges from time to time.
Ever since he had woken up, she had clung to him, as if afraid he would vanish. If it were in the past, he would be happy she was so clingy, but now, he felt more pity for her. He knew she was still submerged in the fear of when he was comatose, and she struggled to believe that he had really woken up, fearing it was all a fleeting illusion.
“Xiaojing, lost again.” She raised her head to look at him, her voice soft and mellow, “Xiya beat me again.”
Quan Jingwu kissed her forehead affectionately, “I’ll win it back for you.”
“Mhm.” Jian Qing nodded with a beaming smile, enjoying her reliance on him.
After watching her play a few rounds, Quan Jingwu quickly got the hang of the game. Now, the only fate left for Xiya was to be swiftly crushed into dust.
“Third brother, third sister-in-law, we are here.”
A familiar voice came from outside the door.
Yifei and the others had arrived.
She sat up, her eyes and eyebrows touched with sparkling laughter.
One by one, Rhee and the others walked in and saw the two of them cuddled up on the sofa, prompting a collective smile from everyone.
This scene, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?
Jian Qing raised her eyes to look around, and aside from Quan Mo and his father who were in the Troops, the rest of the Quan Family had all come.
“Qingqing, look, I brought you something delicious,” Rhee took the large cake from Quan Hao’s hands and placed it on the table.
Jian Qing looked at the familiar packaging, her lips curving gently.
“Third sister-in-law, we are here to celebrate third brother’s awakening. The cake is your favorite flavor,” Quan Yifei said.
“Thank you,” Jian Qing said with a smile in her eyes.
“Jingwu, how are you feeling, is there any discomfort anywhere else?” Seeing his son finally awake, Quan Hao asked with concern.
Quan Jingwu replied, “Bai Jue has already checked me out, I’m fine now.”
“That’s good, good.” The elderly Mrs. Quan said tearfully with joy.
Mingxuan glanced at Quan Jingwu, feeling a great weight finally lifting from his heart, “Grandma, why cry? Jingwu waking up is good news.”
The elderly Mrs. Quan dabbed at her moist eyes, “These are tears of happiness.”
“Come, come, let’s cut the cake and have some,” said Quan Mingxuan, the little expert at warming up the crowd.
Even with the family around, Quan Jingwu’s hand still wrapped around her waist, and Jian Qing didn’t act coy, comfortably leaning into his embrace.
“Third sister-in-law, this piece is for you,” Quan Yifei passed a slice of cake to her, Quan Jingwu reached out to take it, and Jian Qing, holding a fork, scooped a mouthful and brought it to his lips.
Quan Jingwu’s thin lips curved slightly, opening his mouth to eat the cake she fed him.
“Does it taste good?” Jian Qing asked, her eyes twinkling.
“Mmm,” he nodded.
They had just finished dinner and were quite full. After a few bites of cake, they stopped eating.
“Where are Bai Jue and Jian Luo?” Quan Mingxuan looked around but didn’t see the two of them and asked offhandedly.
Jian Qing said, “They went out.”
“Sweetheart, you sit here, I’ll step out to give Shen Hao a call,” Quan Jingwu whispered in her ear.
“Okay,” Jian Qing nodded, and Quan Jingwu got up and walked out.
“Third sister-in-law, did you hear what I said?”
“What?”
Jian Qing snapped back to attention and responded, her gaze still occasionally scanning the floor-to-ceiling window.
The sparse starlight scattered across the night sky was breathtaking.
Quan Jingwu wasn’t actually calling Shen Hao but made a call to Jian Luo instead.
On the other end, taken aback by his sudden call, Jian Luo was momentarily stunned.
“Quan Jingwu, why are you calling me?”
At this time, shouldn’t he be preoccupied with his sister—not literally—and not have the time to call him?
Gazing into the dark night, Quan Jingwu’s lips parted slightly, “Jian Luo, how has your sister been this month?”
On the phone, Jian Luo was befuddled by his question, “What’s going on, did something happen to my sister?”
“Answer my question first,” Quan Jingwu said.
Jian Luo thought back seriously and slowly said, “While you were unconscious, my sister cleaned up the Song Family, has been investigating those kidnappers in black, and all this month, she personally took care of you—washing your face, wiping your body, changing your clothes, it was all her. Bai Jue said that when you’re in a coma, you need to have your hands and feet massaged to prevent muscle atrophy and weakness. Bai Jue and I were planning to hire someone, but she wouldn’t have it. She insisted on doing it herself.”
Halfway through, he paused slightly, his voice growing heavy, “Ever since you went into a coma, my sister hasn’t cried or smiled, she’s been bottling everything up. Do you know, the only other time I’ve seen her like this was seventeen years ago when our mother passed away.”
Upon hearing this, Quan Jingwu’s gaze grew even more profound and somber.
“Quan Jingwu, my mother’s passing was once my sister’s inner demon, but now, you are her inner demon,” Jian Luo was smart enough to know from Quan Jingwu’s question that something must have happened to his sister.
The knot in their hearts regarding their mother had been untied, but now, the fear from Quan Jingwu being in a coma for a month and nearly not waking up had become his sister’s inner demon.
“So, you have to love her fiercely, spoil her rotten, or I won’t let you off,” he continued.
After a silence, Quan Jingwu’s voice came out hoarse, “I understand.”
After hanging up the call, his eyes shimmered with a glint of light.
“Xiaojing!”
A crisp voice called out from behind him.
Quan Jingwu reined in the darkness in his eyes and turned to walk towards her.
“Why did you come out?”
He reached out to embrace her, bringing her back inside the house.
“I wanted to see you,” she said bluntly.
