Chapter 736: 722, The Person in his Bedroom (2)_1 Chapter 736: 722, The Person in his Bedroom (2)_1 Zhan Mingyan listened to his familiar tone and that low laughter, her heart aching, “Bai Jue, if you’re busy, you can leave first. I’m not in any serious condition, I can stay here by myself.”
The person on the other end of the phone must have a close relationship with him, knowing even the code for his front door. If that person isn’t a friend, they must be a good confidante.
Bai Jue looked at her, his gaze slightly hesitating.
“Bai Jue, why do I hear a woman speaking on your end? Am I interrupting something?” Jian Luo teased noticing a woman’s voice on the phone.
“Yes, so you shouldn’t come to my place.” Bai Jue’s gaze dropped, in his usual irreverent tone.
“Absolutely not. I dumped Black Jack and snuck over here. You cannot clue him in.” Jian Luo retorted.
Bai Jue said, “Well, then go wait at my place, I’ll order late-night snacks for you.”
“Thanks.”
Ending the call, he slid his phone back into his pocket. His gaze fell on Zhan Mingyan, “Are you sure you can handle it alone?”
“Yes.” Zhan Mingyan watched him finish his call, and assumed that he was anxious to leave. She nodded, forcing a smile.
“I am already fine, plus I’m a doctor myself. I can take care of myself. You can go.”
Bai Jue looked at her, silent for a few seconds, then rose from his seat, “Rest well.”
Zhan Mingyan nodded, not daring to make a sound, afraid that the tears welling in her eyes would overflow.
Bai Jue cast her one last glance from above and walked out of the ward.
Listening to his departing footsteps, Zhan Mingyan bowed her head. Crystal clear tears burst forth, pattering down and soaking into the blanket.
After a moment, she grabbed a tissue, wiped her tears, and sniffed.
Zhan Mingyan, you dummy, crying is not your style, it’s not elegant at all to be a woman who cries.
She took a deep breath, gathering her emotions, picked up her phone, and checked Facebook.
After a while, she rubbed her eyes, still not feeling sleepy at all.
Turning her head to look out the window, she sighed.
Looks like it’s gonna be a long night.
Then, footsteps echoed.
She tensed, instinctively looking towards the door.
Could it be those two hoodlums seeking revenge?
The next moment, the slightly ajar door was pushed open. A tall silhouette spread across the floor, startling Zhan Mingyan.
Then, a man’s deep voice sounded. She felt a jolt.
“How come you’re not resting?”
Her lips parted slightly as she looked at the incoming man, a mix of emotions welling up in her.
“You, why are you back? Didn’t you just leave?”
Wasn’t he supposed to be with that person?
Did he leave something behind and return to retrieve it?
The person who returned was indeed Bai Jue.
He was carrying a bag. He walked over to her bed with ease, placed the bag on the bedside table, and fished out a pink-colored thermal lunch box.
“I bought some late-night snacks. Wanna eat?”
He opened the thermal box and out wafted an enticing aroma.
Zhan Mingyan stared blankly at the thermal box in his hands. She struggled to find her voice, “Did you go out to buy late-night snacks for me?”
“What else?” Bai Jue reached for a spoon and handed her the box, “I’m not sure if it’s to your taste, but it’s the only type of porridge available. Make do with it, okay?”
Zhan Mingyan reached out to take it, gazing at the steaming hot porridge inside the box. A slight smile broke on her face, genuine this time.
“Thank you!”
Bai Jue pulled up a chair and sat down, chuckling, “It’s rare to hear those words from you.”
As Zhan Mingyan cradled the thermal box in her hands, warmth suffused her chest.
“Staring at the food won’t fill your stomach.” Bai Jue watched as she remained still, tapping on the table.
Zhan Mingyan acknowledged him with an ‘oh’ and began eating spoon by spoon.
“Zhan Mingyan, what brings you to Switzerland?” Bai Jue watched her eat and casually asked, “To attend a wedding?”
“Attending a wedding and sightseeing.” She replied.
And with that, the silence fell between them again.
Zhan Mingyan had a few bites then suddenly thought of the phone call Bai Jue had received. She nonchalantly asked, “Don’t you have to pick up your friend?”
“He doesn’t need a ride, he knows his way around,” Bai Jue replied, “He must be asleep by now.”
The hand holding the spoon paused, “Bai Jue, did you come to Switzerland to attend a wedding too?”
Bai Jue answered, “No, just in Switzerland for fun, and happened to meet some friends.”
Coming to Switzerland for a car race should also be considered as fun.
Zhan Mingyan suddenly thought about the car race that Gerson mentioned in Bar Gerson. She looked at him curiously, “Bai Jue, can you race?”
Bai Jue nodded, “I’m passable. Have you tried it before?”
“No.” Zhan Mingyan shook her head.
“There’ll be a few car races in a few days, wanna check them?” Bai Jue asked.
Zhan Mingyan looked into his eyes filled with stars, and for some inexplicable reason, nodded.
Seeing her nod, Bai Jue said, “Wait till your injury heals a bit more, and I’ll take you.”
“Okay.”
She looked away and continued eating her porridge.
The atmosphere was silent, but subtly carried a sense of warmth.
Just then, the ringtone of the phone shattered the quietness of the room.
Bai Jue took out his phone and seeing the caller ID, was exasperated.
Why isn’t this nuisance asleep yet?
He hit answer, “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
“Damn Bai Jue, do you have any conscience? The faucet and light in the guest room are broken, and you didn’t even have it fixed.” Jian Luo’s voice came through as soon as the call connected.
“Broken?” Bai Jue raised his eyebrows, “Can’t you fix it if it’s broken?”
“Do you think I’m a professional repairman?” Jian Luo retorted angrily.
Bai Jue offered cheerfully, “Then why not check into a hotel?”
“I won’t, I don’t want to go out and face the cold wind at this time of the night. Anyway, I’ve already found a place to live.” Jian Luo claimed.
“You’ve found a place?” Bai Jue was puzzled.
This didn’t seem like his style.
Could it be…
He immediately asked, “Where are you now?”
“In your bedroom, of course.” Jian Luo responded matter-of-factly.
Just as he suspected.
Bai Jue’s lips twitched, “If you’re sleeping in my room, where am I supposed to sleep?”
Jian Luo suggested, “Your bedroom has a large couch.”
Bai Jue, “…”
This guy had the audacity to occupy his bedroom and then force him to sleep on the couch.
“Or you can sleep in the guest room. Anyway, I only called to inform you, oh also, don’t wake me up, or I’ll kill you.”
And with that, Jian Luo hung up the phone without giving him any opportunity to protest.
“…”
What the heck.
Can this guy not have some guest etiquette?
Setting down his phone, Bai Jue noticed Zhan Mingyan looking at him.
“Something wrong?” she asked softly.
Bai Jue shook his head, “Nothing really, just a nuisance.”
It seems it’s better to inform Black Jack earlier, to pick up his nuisance, lest he continues causing him trouble here.
A complaint, but with a hint of laughter, as if he had become accustomed to it.
As Zhan Mingyan held the thermal box, she suddenly found the porridge tasteless. The guy who could elicit such patience from Bai Jue, they must be very close.
Otherwise, why would he allow him into his bedroom so casually, and even allow the person on the end of the phone to sleep in his bedroom.
