Chapter 721: 707, No undue thoughts (3)_1 Chapter 721: 707, No undue thoughts (3)_1 Han Family

In the living room, Quan Mingxuan and Han Yue stood in the middle as Quan Che and Liu Shi sat on the couch like they were holding a formal tribunal.

“Han Yue, you speak up now, what’s the deal with those messages between you and Axuan?” Liu Shi was the first to break the silence, sounding quite upset.

“Mom, those messages were just Axuan goofing around, what else could there be between us aside from friendship that’s grown from childhood? Please believe me.” Han Yue hurried to explain, almost on the verge of kneeling before her.

Liu Shi barked, slapping the couch furiously, “Playing around? You expect me to fall for such a silly excuse? Han Yue, I’m warning you, if you don’t tell the truth, I’ll call your father and he can come deal with you.”

“No, Mom, everything I’ve said is true. Can’t you trust your son for once?” Pleading, Han Yue cut his eyes towards Quan Mingxuan, subtly tugging on his sleeve.

“Speak up now, or we both are going to be in trouble.”

Quan Mingxuan tilted his head and rolled his eyes out of sight of the others, but he too knew it was not the time for jokes.

Or things would get messy, and the two of them would be in it together.

“Auntie, everything Ayue said is true. We were playing around and I sent the messages.”

“Really?” Liu Shi looked at him skeptically.

“Yes, we were playing truth or dare. Ayue lost a round, hence I had to dare him. It was all a joke, please stop taking it seriously.” Quan Mingxuan explained in all earnestness.

“Then what was the two of you hugging on the couch all about?” Quan Che interjected.

Liu Shi’s eyes widened, “Hugging?”

Seeing his mother’s explosive rage bubbling, Han Yue hurriedly tried to pacify her, “Mom, I can explain. Axuan tripped over something on the floor and I tried to catch him, instead we ended up falling on the couch together, that’s all there is to it.”

Listening to him narrate, Quan Mingxuan held his tongue against the bitterness of the lie. He was well aware that Han Yue had deliberately fallen on him.

Hmph.

“But it didn’t seem that way to me.” Quan Che murmured, somewhat aloof.

He had seen Han Yue fall on his son, seemingly rather gleeful about it.

“Uncle, I swear on my life, I have no inappropriate thoughts about your son.” Han Yue wailed.

He felt like crying but couldn’t. He was into women, not men, and definitely not the sly tiger that was Quan Mingxuan.

Quan Mingxuan, sensing Han Yue’s disdain, felt his teeth grinding in annoyance, he quickly added, “Auntie, I assure you, I have no inappropriate intentions towards your son either.”

“The two of you have absolutely nothing between you?” Liu Shi pressed, still not convinced.

“Absolutely nothing.” They spoke in unison.

“Fine, since you insist there’s nothing, I will try to believe you. I’ve made dinner plans with Mrs Ouyang and her daughter, you’ll come along.” announced Liu Shi.

This was a blind date in disguise.

Helpless, Han Yue nodded, “Okay.”

If he didn’t go, his mother would outright assume something was indeed going on between him and Quan Mingxuan.

“Mingxuan, you’re grown-ups, you should know better than to mess around like this.” Quan Che admonished, stern-faced.

“You will write a twenty-thousand-word self-reflection for me by tomorrow evening.”

Quan Mingxuan sulked, “Dad, can the word count be less? How about ten thousand words?”

A ten-thousand-word essay was already draining, and now it had doubled.

“Fine, make it thirty thousand words.”

“No, no, twenty thousand it’ll be. I’ll go start writing right now.”

A smug grin appeared on Han Yue’s face, which disappeared instantly when Liu Shi’s words brought him crashing down.

“Ayue, you will do the same, twenty thousand words of self-reflection. If it’s not completed by tomorrow evening, report to your dad’s office. He’ll supervise you.”

“Mom!”

“Calling your grandpa won’t help.”

Han Yue slumped in defeat, regret lacing his face.

If he knew this would be the outcome, he would have agreed to Axuan’s ten-thousand-word essay. Now he just seemed like he brought this burden upon himself.

Quan Mingxuan glanced at him and scoffed.

Thinking about laughing at someone’s misery? Not a chance.

As evening fell in the suburbs, a cool breeze whistled.

“Hanhan, how did you end up like this?” Jiang Fan cradled Chu Ruohan’s face, gazing at her haggard complexion in sorrow.

“What did they put you through?”

Chu Ruohan’s eyes were vacant and a bruise was visible on her forehead. She saw Jiang Fan’s tears, but remained motionless, almost as if she didn’t recognise her.

Not a trace of her former arrogant and domineering self could be seen. Her skinny silhouette looked like it could be carried away by the wind.

“Come, Hanhan, it’s chilly tonight. Wear this coat.” Jiang Fan wiped away her tears, took off her thick jacket and put it on her.

Seeing Chu Ruohan, Chu Yihen’s cold eyes hinted at ripples of emotion. Despite his hesitation, in the end he reached out and gently touched her hair.

“Ruohan, start fresh in a foreign land.”

After all, she was his only sister. How could he be content with her death?

Chu Ruohan looked blankly at Chu Yihen, cautiously reached out and held onto his hand, meekly uttered, “Brother.”

Jiang Fan choked back tears, covering her mouth with her hand.

She was regretful. If she had let Ruohan stay abroad, maybe things would have turned out differently.

Chu Yihen glanced down at the hand that held his, took a step forward and uncharacteristically gave her a hug. He lifted his hand and gently patted her back.

“It’s time to go.”

He let go of her, signaled the man next to him with a look. The man nodded respectfully, “Young Master, we will leave first.”

The accompanying nurse stepped forward to assist Chu Ruohan onto the plane.

“Brother!” Chu Ruohan held Chu Yihen’s hand tight, with a dependent look in her eyes. After her discharge from the mental hospital, Chu Yihen was the only one she recognised, everyone else was met with stiff resistance.

“Take good care of her.” Chu Yihen freed his hand with an emotionless expression.

“Yes.”

“Miss, let’s go.” encouraged the nurse.

“No, I want to stay with brother, I want to stay with my brother.” Chu Ruohan struggled against the nurse’s grasp, reaching her hand in Chu Yihen’s direction.

Sorrow hit Jiang Fan square in the chest seeing this. She handed Chu Yihen a cloth doll she had brought from home, choked, “Yihen, please give this to Hanhan. She will have some company abroad.”

Chu Yihen looked at the cloth doll, recognising it as a gift he gave Chu Ruohan for her seventh birthday. He reached out and took it, his eyes darkening.

“Brother!”

Chu Ruohan stared at Chu Yihen, desperately trying to break free of the nurse’s hold on her.

Chu Yihen walked over and placed the cloth doll into her hands, “This doll will keep you company just like your brother would. Be good abroad, your brother will come see you when he has time.”
