Chapter 613: 599, The Overlord Pulls the Bow Hard (3)_1 Chapter 613: 599, The Overlord Pulls the Bow Hard (3)_1 “Mingyan, you’ve just recovered from your leg injury. Why aren’t you resting at home?” A man trotted over, gasping slightly as he spoke.
“He Min, why are you here?” Zhan Mingyan gave a bashful smile, asking him.
“I went to your house to look for you, and your mother said you were at the hospital. I was afraid that your leg wound hadn’t healed yet, so I came to take you home.” He Min adjusted his slightly slipping eyeglasses, speaking gently.
“No need, my leg wound has healed. You don’t need to go out of your way.” Zhan Mingyan wore a thin smile, politely refusing him.
“How can anything concerning you be a bother?” He Min replied warmly, shifting his gaze to Bai Jue beside her. “Mingyan, who is this?”
Driven by a man’s intuition, he had a premonition that this man could be a threat to him.
“He is…”
Zhan Mingyan scratched her head, hesitating about how to introduce Bai Jue when the man beside her interrupted.
“Hello, Mr. He, I presume? I am Bai Jue, Mingyan’s boyfriend.” Saying this, he hooked his arm around her slender waist, pulling her close to him.
Zhan Mingyan’s eyes widened, looking up at him. The man’s side profile revealed a self-assured and defiant smile. For a moment, she was mesmerized.
Even though she knew he was only pretending to be her boyfriend to help her, she couldn’t help but feel moved.
Zhan Mingyan, oh Zhan Mingyan, you are really deeply afflicted, aren’t you?
A “BaiJue” kind of intoxication, deep and incurable.
The smile on He Min’s face disappeared, his eyes hidden behind his glasses intensely focused on Bai Jue, then shifted downwards, falling upon the strong hand around Zhan Mingyan’s waist. A trace of indignation flickered in his eyes.
“Mingyan’s boyfriend? I’ve never heard Mingyan mention you before, Mr. Bai. You look unfamiliar. Are you sure you’re not from Beijing?”
Bai Jue chuckled softly, his deep black eyes revealing a glint of amusement. “Only a select few close friends knew about Mingyan and me. We keep it low-key, it’s understandable if outsiders don’t know about us.”
In a few words, Bai Jue had relegated He Min to the category of ‘outsiders’.
He Min clenched his fists, looking at Zhan Mingyan, his voice lowered, “Mingyan, is what he said true?”
Bai Jue looked down at the figure beside him, meeting her blush, causing Zhan Mingyan to quickly avoid his gaze.
She looked back at He Min, her tone mild, “He Min, he indeed is my boyfriend. As for your affection, I can only express my apologies. I wish you will find the person who truly loves you soon.”
“I don’t believe it.” He Min stepped back, disbelief filling his gaze. “Mingyan, you wouldn’t have found someone to act with you just to reject me, would you?”
Zhan Mingyan’s eyes flashed with embarrassment, but she maintained a calm smile, “He Min, I wouldn’t make up a boyfriend just as a joke.”
He Min’s face darkened, a bitter smile curled at the corner of his lips, “Mingyan, where am I lacking compared to him? I’ve been pursuing you for nearly five years now. Have you never felt even a little bit of affection for me?”
“He Min, I’m sorry.” Zhan Mingyan spoke in a quiet voice.
She knew he genuinely cared for her, but she had only ever seen him as a friend, with no romantic feelings involved.
“I don’t believe it, Mingyan, I can’t believe you suddenly have a boyfriend. If you do, why does no one in your house know about it?” He Min adamantly questioned.
Zhan Mingyan hesitated; she felt a bit of a headache.
This man just wouldn’t let things go.
She raised her head to look at him, her voice confident, “Fine, you don’t believe me? Then I will prove it to you.”
Upon hearing her words, Bai Jue looked down at her leisurely.
Proof?
How was she going to provide proof?
He Min fixed his gaze on the two of them, his eyes filled with fury as he looked at Bai Jue.
Zhan Mingyan took a deep breath, spontaneously reached out and hooked her arm around Bai Jue’s neck. Standing on her toes, she brought her lips close to his.
The chain of actions all happened in the blink of an eye.
Bai Jue’s almond-shaped eyes widened, his tall and broad body stiffened.
For a man known for being a playboy, this was the first time he had no idea where to put his hands.
Had he just been… harassed?
Zhan Mingyan felt her face burning. Noticing He Min staring fixedly at them, she gathered her courage and clumsily licked Bai Jue’s lips.
Her kissing technique was unskillful and awkward.
Bai Jue’s gaze was soft, he didn’t push her away, though his eyes held a stormy undertow.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman, kissing in the street, naturally attracted attention.
The sight of the two of them kissing stung He Min’s eyes. He slumped his shoulders, his aura imbued with melancholy as he turned to leave.
When Zhan Mingyan caught sight of him out of the corner of her eye, she immediately pulled away from Bai Jue.
She bit her lip, lowering her gaze, “About that, I just… I had to do it, please don’t get the wrong idea.”
“Zhan Mingyan, did you just forcefully kiss me?” Bai Jue’s voice had a cold edge to it. His expressionless face gave no clue about his emotions.
“I… I didn’t mean to.” Zhan Mingyan responded in a soft voice, barely audible.
“He just wouldn’t believe me, so I had to kiss you, I didn’t mean to…”
“Hahaha!”
A burst of laughter cut her off.
Zhan Mingyan raised her head. Bai Jue’s eyebrows were raised in amusement, a bright smile on his face.
“Why are you rushing to explain? Did I say anything? It was just a kiss, such things are common abroad. Is this possibly your first kiss?”
Zhan Mingyan’s cheeks drained of their blush, and she looked at him indignantly, “Who says? I have numerous suitors, how could this possibly be my first kiss?”
“If it’s not your first, then why are your skills so poor?” Bai Jue couldn’t hide his scorn.
Zhan Mingyan flushed, not with embarrassment, but with anger.
“Bai Jue, you can go to hell.”
She took her bag and whacked his arm, before turning to run to the side of the road. She flagged down a taxi and without looking back, got in and left.
Bai Jue watched as the taxi disappeared out of sight. He rubbed his lips, the soft sensation of the woman’s lips still faintly lingering on his.
He couldn’t say he hated it, but he couldn’t say he was delighted either.
He turned and walked back to the hospital. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a fallen bracelet on the ground. His brows furrowed slightly.
Wasn’t that the one from Mingyan’s wrist?
He bent down to pick it up, and nonchalantly shoved it in his pocket, slowly proceeding inside the hospital.
As he returned to the ward entrance, Rhee and the others were just about to leave.
After greeting them, Bai Jue walked in.
“Where is she?” Jian Qing asked.
Bai Jue plonked himself down next to Black Jack, saying nonchalantly, “She left.”
“You didn’t piss her off again, did you?” Jian Qing’s obsidian-like eyes scrutinized him, her lips curving up slightly as she noticed the remnant traces on his lips.
“She’s more likely to be pissed at me,” Bai Jue responded.
“Bai Jue, you didn’t harass that poor girl, did you? She must’ve gotten scared by your flirtatiousness.” Jian Luo, sitting opposite Bai Jue, also noticed the marks on his lips and teased him while trying to suppress her laughter.
