Chapter 1053: 1038. Locke Side Story (7) Chapter 1053: 1038. Locke Side Story (7) Black Jack and Bai Jue each pushed a bicycle up the slope; Jian Luo followed at Black Jack’s side, her gaze occasionally sweeping across the bloodstained abrasions on the back of his hand.

“You two wait here; I’ll go buy some hot drinks and then we can go to the Manor to play games with Jian Qing,” Bai Jue said.

“Does the wound on your hand hurt?” Jian Luo asked in a soft voice.

Black Jack was startled. It was the first time he had heard her express concern for him in the two years he had known her.

Meeting his eyes, filled with guilt, Black Jack responded cheerfully, “It’s nothing, just a little scratch. It’ll heal quickly once I apply some ointment.”

“Thank you,” Jian Luo said again.

Black Jack gazed at her and suddenly smiled.

“Jian Luo, we’ve known each other for two years, and this is the first time you’ve thanked me.”

Jian Luo’s ears turned red, and with her head lowered, she reverted to the reticent Jian Luo.

“Let’s go; wait in the car. It’s too cold outside.” Seeing her lips lose color from the cold, Black Jack took her by the hand and they got into the car driven by the family driver.

Soon after, Bai Jue came back with the hot drinks.

The promised outing was a wash; the three of them took a trip to the hospital to get ointment, then headed straight home.

Sitting in the living room watching TV, Jian Qing was slightly surprised to see the three of them return. “Didn’t you three go out to the countryside to have fun?”

Returning so early didn’t seem like Bai Jue’s style.

Bai Jue handed the hot drink he had bought for Jian Qing to her, then flopped onto the couch. “Don’t even mention it. The three of us had a crash. We rolled down a slope; their bikes got wrecked, so we came back.”

“Luoluo, did you get hurt anywhere?” Jian Qing quickly turned to Jian Luo, scrutinizing him with concern.

Sipping hot milk tea through a straw, Jian Luo replied, “I’m fine. Black Jack protected me, but he got hurt on his hand.”

Jian Qing’s gaze shifted, and seeing every bruise and scrape on Black Jack’s hand, she called out, “Uncle Qin, call the doctor over.”

“No need, we’ve been to the hospital already. A little ointment will do the trick,” Black Jack said, stopping her.

Jian Qing said earnestly, “Thanks, Black Jack.”

Black Jack raised an eyebrow, “What, you don’t see me as a friend anymore?”

Jian Qing chuckled lightly, “Then I take back my thanks.”

Black Jack curled his lip in satisfaction. Bai Jue already had the DVD and controller in hand. “Jian Qing, let’s have a game.”

“No crying if you lose,” Jian Qing teased, taking the controller he offered.

Bai Jue huffed, “It’s not yet decided who will lose.”

“You guys play; I’ll go to my room to change,” Black Jack stood up and headed upstairs.

Ever since Black Jack became close with both Jian Qing and Jian Luo, he and Bai Jue would often stay over on weekends or during school breaks. Thus, the Jian family patriarch had specifically prepared rooms for them.

Jian Luo watched Black Jack’s figure disappear into the staircase, fell into thought for a moment, then followed him upstairs.

In his room, Black Jack took off his clothes, revealing a back covered with bruises both large and small—a rather frightening sight.

He took out the ointment and faced the mirror, his large hand awkwardly reaching behind his back, but inevitably, there were spots he just couldn’t reach.

Black Jack frowned, then decided to give up on applying ointment, reasoning that the bruises would fade after a few days anyway.

“Black Jack!”

A voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz sounded, and Black Jack quickly turned around to see the slightly ajar door, a tinge of annoyance flickering through his eyes.

Damn, forgot to close the door properly.

He grabbed his clothes and put them on, walking briskly to the door, “Jian Luo, how did you get up here?”

“The injury on your body.” Jian Luo looked up at him, showing a rarely seen expression of guilt.

Black Jack smiled casually, “It’s nothing, just a bruise. It’ll fade in a few days.”

Jian Luo walked past him, straight into the room, then picked up the ointment that was thrown on the bed, and his gaze shifted to Black Jack, “I’ll help you apply the ointment.”

Black Jack’s lips curled into a smile, teasing, “You suddenly caring so much about me, I’m actually a bit unaccustomed to it.”

Jian Luo pursed his lips and opened the ointment.

Black Jack took off his shirt and sat on the edge of the bed to make it easier for him to help apply the ointment.

“If it hurts, you can shout out, I won’t laugh at you.” Jian Luo’s small fingers scooped the ointment, slowly spreading it over his bruised back.

Black Jack couldn’t help but be amused.

If he were to scream and shout over these bruises, how would he ever take over the Sophallo Family in the future?

Seeing the bruises on his back, Jian Luo’s feelings of guilt deepened.

Invisibly, the strangeness and distance between the two boys were gradually diminishing.

After applying the ointment, Jian Luo went to wash his hands in the bathroom. By the time he came out, Black Jack had already changed into new clothes.

“Let’s go, down to watch them play games.”

Jian Luo shook his head, “I haven’t finished my homework yet.”

Not only did he have to do his school homework, but the private tutor his family had hired also assigned additional homework.

“Then I’ll keep you company, I haven’t finished my homework either.” Black Jack unzipped his backpack and casually pulled out a workbook, then pulled Jian Luo back to his room.

They had known each other for two years, but Black Jack rarely entered Jian Luo’s room.

He pulled over a chair and sat down beside him, then casually picked a book from his desk to read.

Jian Luo took out his own exam paper and began to work on the assignment he struggled with the most — German.

Even the smartest people have their weaknesses, and German was Jian Luo’s. As a child of the Jian Family, mastering several languages was essential.

He looked at the exam paper filled with German, furrowing his brows so tightly that his delicate little face almost crumpled into a bun, biting on his pen cap, looking quite distressed.

“Which part don’t you understand?” Black Jack, multitasking, kept an eye on him while reading his book, and seeing him constantly biting his pen cap without writing, asked in a gentle voice.

“I don’t know how to fill in any of them.” Jian Luo said with a sour face, pushing the exam paper in front of him, and without realizing it, he was gradually becoming dependent on Black Jack.

He was quite straightforward about it.

Black Jack glanced over the exam paper quickly, his lips curving up, “Luo Xiaobai, you really are terrible at German.”

A flash of embarrassment crossed Jian Luo’s face as he reached out to take back the exam paper, “Never mind, give me the paper back.”

“Alright now, I didn’t mean to make fun of you.” Black Jack took the eraser and helped him erase the incorrectly filled parts of the paper, “All these are wrong. I’ll explain them to you. If you don’t understand, just tell me, and I’ll go over them multiple times.”

Jian Luo nodded his head and then watched the exam paper as Black Jack explained.

The clean voice of the young boy recited the German slowly and distinctly, making it a pleasure to listen to even the mere sound of it.

With Black Jack’s help, Jian Luo finally finished that distressing German exam paper. To thank Black Jack, he moved all the snacks hidden in his wardrobe out and shared them with him.

“I say, why do you keep the snacks hidden in there?” Black Jack rocked in his chair, his long legs resting against the floor.
