Chapter 1040: 1025, Jue and Zhan’s Couple Extra (24) Chapter 1040: 1025, Jue and Zhan’s Couple Extra (24) “What are you two talking about?”
Bai Jue came downstairs and saw the two of them huddled together, he casually asked.
“We’re talking about your wedding photo shoot,” Xiya changed the subject, “Last time the photo shoot didn’t work out, so you two should pick a date soon, so I can get ready.”
“The day after tomorrow,” Bai Jue has planned already.
“OK, then I’ll bring my crew the day after tomorrow, get everything ready, and meet up with you. After we finish the wedding photo shoot, I need to go back to F Country for a bit and then come back for your wedding,” Xiya said.
“What are you going back to F Country for?” Zhan Mingyan asked.
“There’s a parent-child event at the kindergarten Maomao is attending, so Khan and I need to go,” Xiya replied.
After seeing off Xiya, Bai Jue took Zhan Mingyan out.
These past few days, Zhan Mingyan had been recovering from an injury, and they hadn’t gotten around to sorting things out for the matrimonial home. Taking advantage of the good weather today, the two went out to pick out furniture together.
After the wedding photo shoot, the wedding date would be just around the corner.
The guests Bai Jue invited were naturally Jian Qing and his group of friends, and the rest were relatives and friends invited by the Zhan Family. The invitations were sent out early.
“Mom, Bai Jue and I have prepared everything for the wedding home, there’s no need to buy anything else,” Zhan Mingyan said to Lu Hui, who was dragging her to go shopping, somewhat helplessly.
“Who says there’s no need? Let’s go browse a little more, just in case we’ve missed something. We need to make sure everything is auspicious for the wedding,” Lu Hui pulled her into the car, not giving her a chance to express her opinion, and promptly closed the car door.
By the time they came out of the international mall, Zhan Mingyan was almost too tired to stand.
Thankfully, the driver from home was there to help carry the purchases; otherwise, even if she had an extra pair of hands, it wouldn’t be enough.
“Yanyan, I ordered several sets of jewelry for you a while back, we’ll go take a look later,” Lu Hui said.
She only had this precious daughter and naturally wanted her to get married in glory.
“Mom, you don’t need to look anymore. I trust your taste, and I already have enough of those items. We don’t need to buy more,” Zhan Mingyan said as she rubbed her aching waist.
Shopping in high heels was simply torturous.
“You are Miss Zhan, right?”
A gentle female voice interrupted their mother-daughter conversation.
Zhan Mingyan looked up and a woman’s beautiful face came into view, which seemed somewhat familiar, “Who are you?”
Fang Xue’s face was all smiles, her eyes sizing up Zhan Mingyan covertly, “Hello, I’m Bai Jue’s mother, my name is Fang Xue.”
Bai Jue’s mother?
Zhan Mingyan’s eyes flickered slightly as she suddenly understood why the woman seemed familiar — she bore a resemblance to Bai Jue.
She smiled subtly, “Hello.”
“May we talk?” Fang Xue glanced at Lu Hui and then back at her own outdated clothes compared to what Lu Hui was wearing, feeling a twinge of resentment.
Her son was so powerful and wealthy, yet she, his mother, was in such a sorry state.
Zhan Mingyan nodded lightly and pointed to a nearby cafe, “Let’s talk inside.”
“Hmm.”
Inside the cafe, Lu Hui eyed the woman sitting across from her, uncertainty flickering in her gaze.
Bai Jue had never mentioned his mother before; if it weren’t for the resemblance between them, Jian Qing would have suspected that the woman before her was a fraud.
However, relying on a woman’s super accurate sixth sense, she was certain that nothing good could come from this woman’s sudden appearance.
“I’ve always heard Bai Jue mention you, and now I finally meet you in person,” Fang Xue said, familiarly starting the conversation.
“Our Bai Jue is so lucky to marry such a beautiful girl. Can I call you Mingyan?”
Zhan Mingyan, “Yes, you can.”
“Sorry, Miss Fang, isn’t it? We seem to have never heard Bai Jue mention you before. Are you two…” Lu Hui asked tentatively.
Fang Xue’s face stiffened for a second, and then she said, “I’ve been abroad for many years. After divorcing Bai Jue’s father, my son and I seldom met. Bai Jue is a sensible child and rarely concerns me. When I heard he was getting married, I thought I should come back to see. After all, even though I have a new family now, he is still my own son. A son’s wedding naturally means his mother should make a trip back.”
Zhan Mingyan keenly caught the fleeting awkwardness on her face and said with a faint smile, “Mother, why don’t you chat with Miss Fang for a while? I’m going to the bathroom.”
“Okay.”
Zhan Mingyan took her bag and stood up to leave.
Watching her leaving figure, a thoughtful look crossed Fang Xue’s eyes.
In the bathroom, Zhan Mingyan made a phone call to Bai Jue.
“What’s up, Little Yannyan, do you miss me?” On the other end of the phone, Bai Jue was selecting wedding photos to be displayed on their wedding day.
“Bai Jue, I’ve met your mother,” Zhan Mingyan said softly.
The photo Bai Jue was holding slipped from his hand, and the smile on his lips gradually faded, “Where are you guys?”
Zhan Mingyan gave the cafe’s location, asking worriedly, “Bai Jue, are you okay?”
“Wait there for me, don’t believe anything she says,” Bai Jue grabbed his car keys and hurried out.
The phone call ended, and Zhan Mingyan couldn’t help but feel worried.
She went back and from a distance, she could see Fang Xue talking nonstop while her own mother responded with a distant smile.
“Yanyan!” Lu Hui pushed her chair back, and Zhan Mingyan set down her bag and sat down.
Seeing Zhan Mingyan’s return, Fang Xue’s smile deepened, “Mingyan, now that you and Bai Jue are married, we’re all family. I’ll have to trouble you to take good care of Bai Jue in the future. If he isn’t good to you, just tell me, and I’ll teach him a lesson for you.”
With this affectionate tone, she completely positioned herself as the mother-in-law, but Zhan Mingyan’s response was a detached smile, not engaging with her words.
For the rest of the time, it was mostly Fang Xue who did the talking, with Zhan Mingyan and Lu Hui only occasionally responding.
“Welcome!”
The sweet voice of the server rang out, and Zhan Mingyan looked up to see that Bai Jue had arrived.
“Eh, Yanyan, Bai Jue is here,” said Lu Hui, who also saw Bai Jue and obviously looked relieved.
Fang Xue’s expression stiffened, her smile nowhere to be seen.
She looked at Zhan Mingyan, who calmly endured her scrutiny.
“Auntie!” Bai Jue ignored Fang Xue, greeted Lu Hui, and then turned to Zhan Mingyan, “Yanyan, you guys go ahead and leave first. I’ll come find you later in the evening.”
“Okay.” Zhan Mingyan glanced at him, nodded slightly, “Mom, shall we go? Didn’t we say we were going to look at jewelry?”
“Oh, right, Miss Fang, we’ll take our leave then.” Lu Hui had seen all types of people and could easily tell that the relationship between Bai Jue and his mother was not at all like what Fang Xue had just described, even worse than strangers.
