Chapter 1002: 988. Human or Ghost (2) Chapter 1002: 988. Human or Ghost (2) Yang Lin’s eyes dimmed, “Grandpa, Grandma.”
An Zhonghui hummed indifferently, but Zhou Qi, taking her hand and looking at her haggard appearance, felt a twinge of heartache.
“Linlin, your complexion doesn’t look good. Have you not been resting well recently?”
Yang Lin bit her lip and remained silent.
An Rong feigned wiping tears that weren’t there from the corner of her eyes, “It’s all because of those paparazzi who have been relentlessly chasing Linlin, causing her career to suffer.”
“When you do wrong, you should reflect on your own faults.” After a long silence, An Zhonghui suddenly spoke.
His sharp gaze swept over, and An Rong immediately subdued herself.
She lowered her head in grievance and tugged at Yang Lin’s sleeve.
Yang Lin was unaffected, staring blankly at the ground. Ever since the incident at the hotel where she was caught in an adulterous act, she had become less talkative.
“Aqi, have the kitchen prepare some extra dishes. Today Azhe and the others are coming back. Everyone pay attention and don’t cause any more trouble, or else just get out of the An Family,” An Zhonghui warned with a cold voice.
The others stayed quiet, but Zhou Qi, despite feeling a touch of dissatisfaction, dared not show it.
Were it not for her son’s sake, she’d wish Jian Qing and the others would never return here.
Outside, the faint sound of car engines could be heard.
“Master!”
At the door, a servant’s voice carried a note of respect.
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound. An Zhe walked in with a woman. As the two approached closer and the woman’s face became clear, the expressions of Zhou Qi and the others changed drastically.
Their looks were as if they had seen a ghost.
Aside from An Zhonghui, who was aware that Jian Wei was not dead, the rest were still in the dark.
An Chong locked his gaze on the person standing next to An Zhe, his pupils dilating, mind going blank, unable to hear the sounds around him.
She… she was still alive…
Jian Wei glanced over the people in the living room and upon seeing An Chong, simply shifted her gaze away indifferently, deeply wounding An Chong.
Her gaze was even colder than before.
“Are you a person or a ghost?” A sharp voice abruptly broke the silence as An Rong stepped back two paces, bumping into a pillar behind her.
She looked at Jian Wei in panic, swallowing nervously, “What happened in the past has nothing to do with me. If you want revenge, don’t come after me.”
Jian Wei’s eyes remained calm as she looked at her, unpleased and unruffled, which only increased An Rong’s panic.
“Anrong, don’t talk nonsense,” An Zhonghui said as he saw a flicker of displeasure in his son’s eyes and quickly rose to his feet.
“Dad, look clearly, she is Jian Wei. Maybe she’s come for revenge,” An Rong said, walking over to him quickly, her expression tense.
“Enough,” An Zhonghui’s face turned livid, “She is Jian Wei, she’s alive, and according to seniority, you should address her as your elder sister-in-law. All this noise, it’s disgraceful.”
An Rong was struck as if by a bolt from the blue and stood there, stunned.
An Chong rushed up to Mo Xiao, never taking his eyes off Jian Wei, “You, you are still alive?”
Mo Xiao furrowed his brow, stepping in front of Jian Wei to shield her from An Chong’s piercing gaze, warningly shouted, “Achong!”
“Stop!” Jian Wei pulled on Mo Xiao’s hand, stepped forward, and met An Chong’s gaze, “Yes, I’m still alive.”
She paused, then turned to look at the others, “I don’t intend to pursue what happened in the past, so some of you should also stop bothering me. After all, I’m not the amnesiac Jian Wei from before.”
Zhou Qi and An Rong, upon hearing this, hid behind An Zhonghui.
“Alright, it’s getting late; let’s head to the Ancestral Hall first,” An Zhonghui said.
As he walked away, Zhou Qi and An Rong hurriedly followed close behind him.
In the Courtyard, Yun Xi was sitting on Quan Jingwu’s shoulders, stretching out her tiny hands trying to catch the oranges on the tree.
This orange tree had been planted on Grandpa’s orders, and he loved sitting under it.
Perhaps because the Servants had taken good care of it, there were quite a few oranges on the tree.
From a distance, one could smell the refreshing fragrance of oranges.
Yun Xi’s rosy little mouth opened slightly, with a hint of suspect silver drool at the corner, and her lotus root-like small arms struggled to reach for the oranges above her head.
Just as her little fingers touched an orange, Quan Jingwu brought her down, and the within-reach orange flew away. Yun Xi’s little mouth turned downward, and her bright violet eyes tearfully looked at Jian Qing, ready to burst into tears any second.
Jian Qing, half-laughing and half-sympathetic, gave Quan Jingwu a pat, “Don’t always tease your son.”
Quan Jingwu looked at the little one’s wronged expression in his arms, laughed softly, and reached out his strong arm, easily plucking an orange.
“Yun Xi, do you want it?”
Seeing the golden orange, Yun Xi instantly retracted her tears, smiled widely, and hurriedly snatched the orange from his hand, “Yes.”
Quan Jingwu gently pinched her little face, then picked another orange and handed it to Yun Xi’s sibling.
An Yu watched Jian Qing’s face brimming with happiness, and comparing that to her own situation, she couldn’t help feeling ironic.
Jian Qing’s mother had not died while her own mother had.
Why was life always so unfair, showering all the good fortune on Jian Qing, leaving her with nothing?
Next to her, Yang Lin glanced at the happy family of Jian Qing for just a few seconds before looking away.
“Grandpa!” Yun Xi’s sibling called out upon seeing Mo Xiao and Jian Wei, showing off the orange Quan Jingwu had picked for them, “Orange.”
Mo Xiao lightly scratched their little nose and picked them up, “Are you going to give it to Grandpa to eat?”
“No.” Yun Xi’s sibling hid the orange in their embrace, their clear ink-black eyes twinkling with a crafty smile, “For Grandma to eat.”
“Haha,” Jian Wei’s laughter bloomed.
An Zhonghui watched Yun Xi’s sibling in Mo Xiao’s arms, a flash of hard-to-detect envy passing through his eyes.
He glanced at Jian Qing standing off to the side, opened his mouth to speak but ultimately remained silent.
The Ancestral Hall was situated on the east side of the old mansion, and a gust of autumn wind brought the faint fragrance of osmanthus.
In the Yard, two osmanthus trees were nearly as old as Grandpa himself.
Today, with the ritual to honor Grandpa, An Zhonghui had made arrangements early in the morning, and various kinds of food were placed on the sandalwood table.
An Zhonghui was the first to go in and offer incense, followed by Mo Xiao and the others.
After offering incense, An Chong came out, saw Jian Wei standing under the tree, hesitated, but eventually went over to her.
Jian Wei reached out to catch a falling petal, twirling it on her fingertip.
Hearing footsteps, she turned around, and as she lifted her eyes, she met An Chong’s complex gaze with a composed expression.
“Yun Xi, no, that’s not right, it should be Jian Wei,” An Chong said with lingering affection as he looked at the woman before him, a bitter smile creeping onto his lips.
Jian Wei, “Is there something you want?”
“Was it because you knew the child in your womb was my brother’s that you decided to keep the baby?” An Chong asked, revealing a knot in his heart that had been there all along, “If I had divorced back then, would you have considered giving me a chance?”
