Chapter 99: Chapter 97: Wilderness Battle Royale (Part 2)
Luckily, Lu Hong made it to the edge of the waterfall at the last moment and took a leap, plunging into the pool below.
"Where is he?!" When Sa Re hurried over and looked down from above, aside from the deafening sound of water, there was no trace of Lu Hong to be seen.
"Everyone get down there and search, he can’t have gone far!" commanded Sa Re, and tens of thousands of people jumped down from above, rushing into the pool.
Yet, half an hour passed, and despite a carpet search by tens of thousands of people, they failed to find any trace of Lu Hong.
"Trash! Trash! A bunch of trash!" Sa Re roared in dissatisfaction.
"My Lord Earl, we have searched every nook and cranny here; surely the man must have escaped from this pool, but given his injuries, he surely can’t get far."
"Do I need you to tell me that?" Sa Re interrupted his aide with displeasure, "Someone, form teams of ten and spread out within a ten-mile radius to search. He must be captured and brought back to me!"
After issuing his orders, Sa Re personally led a team following the water’s flow and gradually moved away. Soon, the soldiers under the waterfall dispersed.
So where did Lu Hong actually hide? In fact, he was still under the pool. When Lu Hong plunged into the pool, he immediately saw a huge underwater statue, a bizarre serpent with three heads. Of course, it originally had three heads, but two had been destroyed by external forces, and half the serpent’s body was likewise ruined.
But it was this very statue that saved Lu Hong’s life, for he recognized it. This statue had appeared in a dungeon in the Sky game, and there was a secret space beneath it that could be entered with a spell muttered in silence.
Of course, our Lu Hong, being an avid gamer, knew dungeons inside out. By entering the secret space, he easily avoided Sa Re’s search.
"How strange?" Lu Hong surveyed the secret space around him, which bore no resemblance to the game. The place in Sky was filled with big chests bearing seals, yet now it was bare, with blue vines covering the walls like a room.
Before Lu Hong could search carefully, the force that Sa Re had attached to his arrows exploded within Lu Hong’s body, rampaging uncontrollably.
"Cough cough..." Lu Hong couldn’t help but cough up a mouthful of blood, a Second Transition Level 4 Bowmaster!
Since Lu Hong recognized the place from the game, it wasn’t hard for him to guess Sa Re’s profession.
In the game, this was a dungeon called the Homeland of Yamata no Orochi, and two gods not known in the Continent of God’s Grace were enshrined here: the Air Sect God and the Arrow Pursuing God.
"Cough cough..." Lu Hong tried to rally his Fighting Spirit to suppress Sa Re’s power, but it was of little use.
"I need to break through to the Second Transition!" Lu Hong’s face contorted fiercely, he couldn’t hold back the force that had broken into his body; it all came down to his level being too low.
Fortunately, Lu Hong was robust enough to hold on for another two days. Now, he had to make the leap from being a peak First-Turn Warrior to a Second Transition in order to survive.
"Sa Re must still be searching for me in the pool. No need to rush out. Once they think I’ve fled, that’s when I’ll make my exit," Lu Hong decided. Although Sa Re would undoubtedly lead his men deeper into the jungle, Lu Hong had a chance to escape following the route he came in. However, Lu Hong had no intention of fleeing; this vendetta had to be avenged!
Lu Hong was still very cautious. After waiting in the secret room for more than three hours, he carefully emerged and slowly surfaced. As expected, Sa Re’s men had all left.
"From now on, I am the hunter, and you are the prey!" Lu Hong covered the half-inch-wide blood hole near his heart with an icy expression, and stealthily made his way into the jungle.
It wasn’t long before Lu Hong stumbled upon several soldiers slacking off in the woods, their efforts lackluster without Sa Re present.
"If you ask me, Lord Earl is a fool. He could have just killed the kid on the training field, and it would all be over. Instead, he had to play this hunting game. Now look at us, chasing through this vast border forest, where are we supposed to find him?" One soldier complained while leaning against a tree.
"Yeah, you’re right. Sa Re is a fool. If he hadn’t coincidentally saved the life of the City Lord back in the day, how could he have become an Earl?" Another soldier also expressed dissatisfaction with Sa Re, sharing his gripes.
"Could you guys keep it down a bit? If someone else overhears us and reports, the three of us would be dead!" The last soldier looked around warily, almost spotting Lu Hong.
"You are too cowardly. We deliberately slowed down; by now, others have probably gone two kilometers ahead. Who can hear us talk?"
"If you ask me, we might as well slack off here; that kid might be caught by us first."
"Right, I agree."
As the three agreed to lie in wait, Lu Hong caught them off guard, summoning the Blood Holy Sword and stabbing fiercely from behind.
The soldier resting at the tree’s edge felt a sudden intense pain in his chest. Looking down, a blood-red sword had pierced his heart: "Save... "
The other two soldiers were instantly shocked and just as they grabbed their weapons, Lu Hong charged out from behind the tree.
"It’s you!" the remaining two soldiers prepared to activate their Skills, but Lu Hong’s sword was already pressing against their heads.
These soldiers were all Second Transition Level 1, not particularly strong, but Lu Hong didn’t want them to use their Skills. After all, in the jungle, Skills were too conspicuous and could easily attract attention.
"You hold him off; I’ll call for support!" one of the soldiers backed up a few steps, channelling Magic Power and aiming at the sky to send a signal.
"Dream on!" Lu Hong activated his Lion King’s Descent mode, his immense strength flipping the soldier in front of him and then thrusting his sword through the soldier’s body, stopping the signal from being sent.
"You..."
Lu Hong drew out the Holy Sword and looked towards the soldier on the ground who had not yet risen, "What signal do you squads use to communicate with each other?"
"I... I won’t tell you... ah!" Before the soldier could finish his sentence, Lu Hong hacked off one of his arms with a single strike.
"What’s the signal?" Lu Hong asked again.
"Blood... flow river, snake... climb sky," the once-resilient soldier immediately gave away their communication signal.
"Thank you." With a swift motion, Lu Hong beheaded the man and then changed into the military clothing he had stripped off a soldier.
After hastily burying three bodies, Lu Hong delved back into the jungle, looking for soldiers who might be isolated like them.
With this trick, Lu Hong successfully killed dozens more.
"Why? Why can’t I advance to Second Transition?" Lu Hong knelt on the ground, surrounded by five soldiers who had just died.
Indeed, Lu Hong’s Lion King’s Arrival mode could suppress soldiers of Second Transition junior level, but there were not many easy targets among those who survived the wilderness. The battle had taken its toll on him, and to prevent them from firing a signal flare, Lu Hong relentlessly stuck close to them in combat, which not only drained his stamina but also expended most of his Fighting Spirit.
With diminished Fighting Spirit to suppress Sa Re’s power, extensive damage appeared again in his body.
At this rate, Lu Hong feared he wouldn’t even survive the day!
"I need more experience!" Lu Hong got up and charged back into the jungle, finding a small squad of ten in less than ten minutes.
"Kill!"
"Are you crazy? Attacking your own men?" The sudden appearance of Lu Hong took the ten soldiers by surprise. When they saw he was wearing one of their own uniforms, they didn’t initially react.
"Not right! It’s that kid!" Some were quick to notice and immediately raised their swords to meet him, only to be split in two along with their weapons by Lu Hong.
"Quick, signal!"
This time, Lu Hong didn’t stop them. He needed more people to come over, to kill enough at once!
As the signal flare exploded in the sky, people scattered all around rushed towards Lu Hong’s location.
"Surround him!" At the squad leader’s command, the remaining eight soldiers encircled Lu Hong.
"You dare to appear?" The squad leader sneered, "The honor of defeating you will be ours this time."
"We’ll see if you’re that lucky," Lu Hong smirked, leaping into the air for a Jump Slash, charging down.
"Fireball!"
"Ice Arrow!"
Four Mages fired off their spells from left and right at Lu Hong, while other close-combat fighters fully charged their Magic Power awaiting Lu Hong’s descent.
"To hell with you!" Even as he was hit by the high-temperature fireball and the freezing ice arrow, Lu Hong, enduring the intense pain, did not waver in his attack and headed straight for the squad leader.
"How dare a First-Turn Warrior like you attack me?" The squad leader, looking down on Lu Hong, was confident he could block Lu Hong’s attack with the power of Holy Light.
"Die!" Of course, Lu Hong wouldn’t give him a chance to regret. The tremendous force of the blow crashed through the Holy Light defense and completely ground the squad leader into pulp.
"Leader!"
Seeing the squad leader with whom they shared daily life perish in seconds, the team members rushed towards Lu Hong in a frenzy, casting flame spells and frost spells as if money was no object.
"Get out of my way!" Continuing his Lion King’s Arrival stance, Lu Hong kicked one Knight away, his Holy Sword slashing towards the head of a Hunter in pursuit, utterly disregarding both the dagger stabbing towards him from the side and the oncoming fireballs and ice arrows.
"Help me!" Paired with the Hunter’s cry for aid, a head rolled onto the ground.
"And you die too!" After killing the Hunter, Lu Hong’s target shifted to an assassin on the side.
"Stealth!" The assassin instinctively released an invisibility skill right away.
"Intimidate!" Lu Hong would not give the assassin a chance to vanish, timing his shout with the assassin’s spellcasting, and his roar successfully stunned him.
With the empowerment of his War God bloodline, the effect of Intimidate had more than doubled from before, dizzying not just the assassin, but the four Mages as well.
"You..." A surge of pain brought the assassin back to his senses, but it was too late— the Blood Holy Sword had already pierced his chest.
"Knight’s Verdict!" The two Knights whom Lu Hong had kicked away were both red-eyed as they activated their skills, filling the space between them with Holy Light power.
"Move!" Knights were the toughest class to deal with due to their natural high defense. But their firepower was lacking, and Lu Hong, with sheer brute force, pushed them back, his gaze locked on the few Mages recovering from dizziness.
