Chapter 1647: Chapter 1647: Dalkhan’s Melancholy

The Magic Crystal Cannon of the Drying Sun, though slow to charge, truly lives up to its power. It swept the walls clean with its first strike and then fired artillery shells specifically designed to destroy walls from afar.

In reality, several rows of Magic Crystal Cannons bombarded in succession, resulting in continuous bombardment without much interruption.

This is Daisom, after all, Dalkhan’s home base that he has cultivated for many years. The city walls are too strong; in other places, it would have long collapsed completely.

But even here, cracks grew more frequent. Finally, after three hours of continuous bombardment by the Drying Sun, as noon approached, this section of the wounded and battered wall collapsed with a great roar.

Yet the Drying Sun Legion’s land forces did not rush to attack but instead adjusted the position of the Drying Sun, continuing their attack on adjacent walls.

Clearly, they intend to destroy all the walls here before launching an attack.

Dalkhan viewed this with frustration and anger, wanting to stop it but lacking the means to respond, especially with the Black Dragon Queen targeting him. He could only command the army.

Honestly, although Dalkhan’s magic talent is strong, as he has displayed, apart from studying and researching magic, he doesn’t have the talent for military leadership.

This is why he surrendered to the Scourge Legion but wasn’t heavily utilized by them.

It’s worth noting that while the Scourge Legion is an Undead Legion, it doesn’t harbor any biases.

To attain the corresponding position, there are only two criteria: one is solid strength; the other is capability.

Only with sufficient strength can one attain a matching position; if you have power but lack the necessary capability, in the Scourge Legion’s view, you’re merely a high-level fighter. The Scourge Undead boasts formidable existences but hasn’t attained the corresponding positions.

After all, the previous generation Lich King also once led a clan of high shamans, and the current Lich King was even the heir to a leading kingdom of the Human Kingdom Alliance.

Both relied not just on plague for control but also on wisdom. Without the necessary wisdom and means, the current Scourge Legion wouldn’t have developed to this extent.

Though the Scourge Undead seeks to establish a world composed of undead, any high-level undead with the corresponding status is heavily utilized.

The first Lich King was known for his cunning, adept at spreading beliefs and deceiving followers.

Then he discovered an old mage, who was frustrated and unsuccessful, yet formerly a powerhouse in the Kingdom of Magic.

He pledged allegiance to the Lich King and was granted eternal life. His forte became what Dalkhan was known for—a Grand Lich called Kel’Thuzad.

His forte was leadership and research; he continued researching plagues and built the floating city, spreading new plagues throughout the Human Kingdom, exploiting cults to spread terror and plagues, letting the undead rampage.

During the resistance against the plague and Scourge Undead, the son of the leader of the Human Alliance, the young Prince, fell into despair and, tempted by the power of the Demon Sword, fell completely.

Then came the Death Knights, who used his political wisdom and methods to enable the undead to dominate the Northern Continent, even forcing the Dragon Clan to avoid direct confrontation.

The battle for the Frozen Throne severely wounded the Lich King. He was, after all, a soul trapped in ice; his spiritual power was naturally strong, but unless tempted near the Frozen Throne, he was powerless.

The Grand Lich and Prince returned to aid; the Grand Lich died in battle, the enemies retreated, but the Lich King had to merge with the Prince, becoming the second generation Lich King.

Subsequently, to revive the Grand Lich, the Lich King launched a Scourge attack against the High Elves, with Dalkhan as a defector removing the kingdom’s magic barrier.

The Ranger General died in battle, hidden away; his soul transformed into a Lich.

At that time, three key figures of the High Elves were transformed into undead; two were heavily utilized, except for Dalkhan, who was bitterly guarding here.

The first was Councilor Silvermoon, a lady of the Duke, transformed into the Blood Queen, becoming part of the Blood Race, essentially acting as the Lich King’s guard, protecting the Ice Crown Glacier—showing the importance of position.

The other was the Ranger General, transformed into a Banshee, which was even more remarkable. Because the new Lich King’s soul fusion was unstable and he controlled too many undead, periodic slumber was needed to slowly heal his injuries.

Thus, the Banshee formed from the Ranger General replaced the Death Knight’s leadership position, becoming almost equal to the third high chair of the Scourge Legion alongside the Grand Lich.

Under her command were not only the Banshees and other high-level undead but also a group of Demon Legion and numerous Death Knights.

The Ranger General now became the Queen; she exploited the Lich King’s weakness, divorced from control, and liberated numerous intelligent undead unwilling to be controlled by the Scourge Legion, establishing the Forsaken race.

In terms of contribution, Dalkhan initially had far more accomplishments than the other two, but by only occupying himself with territory construction in a remote valley, one could see his situation; he’s not fit for leading troops.

This fellow, on the other hand, is dissatisfied, thinking himself unrivaled, competent in everything, lamenting others’ inability to perceive his talents, tirelessly cultivating Ghost Land.

However, when the Drying Sun Legion attacked, his elite forces did not consider how to deploy or even deal with the Drying Sun Legion; rather, they actively shrank back and even fought several battles with undead forces from the Tower of the Windwalker before the war.

He naively assumed his fortress was fundamentally impregnable, that no matter how formidable the Drying Sun Legion was, they would meet their end here, but reality delivered another crushing blow.

The world’s supposedly impregnable, strongest walls gradually collapsed, and he was unable to prevent it.

Dalkhan was utterly at a loss; he had no idea how to defeat the Drying Sun Legion now.

The Gargoyle Legion has fought with the enemy for an entire day, resulting in losses of two-fifths of the Gargoyles, whereas the enemy’s airborne forces, though not strong, seem endless.

The enemy’s bugs are too bizarre, similarly feeling endless when attempting to kill.

In reality, this isn’t an illusion; supported by abundant energy units, his bugs are being mass-produced as delicacies at all times.

As for the barrier of the Drying Sun, Dalkhan, as the kingdom’s future star, is fully aware—the kingdom isn’t lacking funds, making it unrealistic to exhaust the Drying Sun’s energy.

The people aboard the Drying Sun, upon tiring, could simply rest, eat, drink, and replenish, allowing the Gargoyle attacks freely.

As the hazy moonlight emerged, Dalkhan gazed at the mostly collapsed walls, finally pondering the potential for failure this time.

But it was already too late to say anything now; Daisom had only one gate, one passage, with towering peaks behind, leaving no escape.

Guarding offered at least some chance of victory, but rushing out would basically mean death.

Dalkhan gazed at the moon he hadn’t seen for years in Ghost Land, filled with melancholy, as if he’d returned to the first time he led troops caught in a Troll siege, trapped and ultimately captured in despair.

The Magic Crystal Cannon of the Drying Sun, having roared all day, finally ceased; today’s battle was over, yet he knew tomorrow would be the true beginning, or perhaps his end.

For the first time, he seriously reflected on whether he was truly unsuited for warfare...
