Chapter 1632: Barrier
Chapter 1632: Chapter 1632: Barrier
Li Yao valued two factories the most. Starting today, the Withered Sun Legion now possesses its own Alchemy Laboratory, capable of steadily producing corresponding potions and medicines.
Moreover, with the techniques of the High Elves, it wouldn’t be too difficult to fuse the technology of gargoyles and magical puppets to create new flying puppets. Taking the Sun Holy Temple marks the complete establishment of the Withered Sun Legion’s foundation.
At this moment, the Magician walked into the hall, his face full of delight: "Sir, I just personally tested the magical node. The connection with the Sunwell is completely normal. Although the Sunwell’s energy has been corrupted and can’t be absorbed by us, by relying on the core node of the Sun Holy Temple, the defense array here can be fully activated."
Li Yao nodded: "So what you’re saying is, the Sun Holy Temple is actually the magical hub for the entire Ghost Land?"
The Magician confirmed: "Indeed. Based on the documents left behind and my own investigations, this place truly radiates magic throughout the Ghost Land. It’s quite surprising, I always thought the Tower of the Windwalker was the hub here."
Everyone deeply agreed. Though the Sun Holy Temple holds symbolic significance—the coronation of the Sun King must take place here—the stationed troops here are relatively few, making its practical value less than its symbolic importance.
In contrast, the Tower of the Windwalker is different. It is the core controlled by the Windrunner Family in the Ghost Land, serving as the land-based bridgehead against the Amani trolls.
Although the trolls have been suppressed, minor skirmishes and small wars are ongoing, and there are even times when sudden raids aim to seize control of the Ghost Land.
The Tower of the Windwalker, situated near the coastline, manages to endure even under the toughest of circumstances because of its access to naval supplies. This is what keeps the Tower of the Windwalker standing strong, firmly pinning down the trolls of the Amani Empire, forcing them to stay confined within their capital city.
Naturally, everyone assumed the central node linking the magic of the Sunwell would be located there.
This is also why, upon hearing that the Tower of the Windwalker had been occupied by a force of undead from a different dimension, Li Yao wanted to attack the Tower of the Windwalker first.
"Excellent. If that’s the case, the locations within the radiated area can have their magical barriers reactivated. With just a small amount of troops, the strongholds can be secured, and within the barriers, our spell attacks will be greatly amplified," Morning Breeze said with a face full of joy.
"How long will it take to activate the barrier here?" Li Yao asked.
The Magician replied, "It can be done anytime, but the damned undead damaged some smaller nodes when remodeling this place. It will take some time to repair them, but the barrier should be operational within a day at most."
"Alright, issue my command: the troops stationed at the port are to set out immediately to repair the smaller barriers along the way and secure the strongholds. Let’s establish control over the area and deploy at the Sun Holy Temple as quickly as possible," Li Yao ordered.
"Understood."
Everyone received the command. Moving the base of operations here would greatly ease logistical support, and with the magical barrier’s protection, there wouldn’t be many concerns about failing to hold the area.
It can be said that the Withered Sun Legion has now achieved an invincible position, at least in terms of defense.
As long as the Tower of the Windwalker and Daisom are taken, the entirety of this place will truly fall under the control of the Withered Sun Legion.
The army rested here for an entire week, awaiting the arrival of the remaining forces of the Withered Sun Legion.
The path had largely been cleared, with only small groups of undead remaining. Although the troops had not fully regained their strength, they were more than capable of dealing with the remnants.
This ensured the safety of the migrating Withered Sun civilians and workers, especially with the magical nodes along the route being gradually restored. Traveling along this path was incredibly secure, and even in the event of encountering a major enemy, the civilians could take shelter within the magical barriers.
During the week, while the main army remained stationary, several detachments spread out from the temple as the center, continually searching for ruins of small towns, villages, or functional buildings, restoring and reconnecting the nodes.
The players also welcomed such tasks. By targeting undead strongholds in villages that weren’t too powerful, the players’ own forces could manage the operations, allowing them to gain significant military merits and rewards. If they discovered treasure-like items, they’d even receive a cut.
As a result, during the seven-day period, the players were highly enthusiastic.
Under the care of the Withered Sun Legion, Starfire managed to seize three relatively important medium-sized strongholds within seven days: Tague Forest, Moon Temple, and Sun Holy Temple.
Of these three strongholds, one was an essential transportation route, while the other two were functional buildings critical for absorbing and radiating magic from the Solar Corona Temple’s node. The rewards were exceptionally abundant.
Other players, while envious, could only accept the situation. Only the teams with the highest reputation managed to receive valuable stronghold assignments.
By the end of the seven-day period, over two-thirds of the Ghost Land’s map within the radiated area of the Solar Corona Temple was under the control of magical barriers, solidifying the territory of the Withered Sun Legion.
By the sixth day, the entirety of the Withered Sun Legion’s army and civilians had relocated to the Solar Corona Temple. Troops were stationed at various strongholds, securing them tightly.
On the seventh day, with all preparations completed, the army finally set off again.
With abundant supplies stored at the Solar Corona Temple and no worries about their safety, the army was brimming with confidence.
The vanguard army led by Tongtong did not sit idly by; they had already advanced near the Windwalker Village.
The village had once been home to the Windrunner Family and their populace, but now it had suffered under the plague of undead and became the next target to be purged.
However, the army’s first movement was in another direction, toward the Werewolf army camp of the Light Faction.
Half a day later, the werewolf camp appeared in the distance.
The camp gates were wide open, and a werewolf, riding a warhorse without transforming into wolf form, galloped toward the army and stopped nearby.
"I am Kartam, General of the Kingdom of Gilneas. I demand to meet your Legion Commander."
The steel cockroach formation dispersed, and Li Yao, atop the Hell Battle Scorpion, appeared at the frontmost position of the legion.
"General Kartam, we meet again," Li Yao said calmly.
"You’re the new Legion Commander of the Withered Sun Legion?" Kartam asked, his face full of surprise.
"What, am I not qualified?" Li Yao retorted.
Kartam shook his head: "The previous Legion Commander fought several leaders in a battle that transcended prowess against the Holy Devil Marshal, eventually even repelling the invincible Molten Mountain Dragon. With such courage and skill, if you are not qualified, then who else could be?"
"You flatter me. But General, you’re rather impressive yourself, daring to come alone before my army. Aren’t you afraid to die?" Li Yao asked, slightly amused.
"Afraid? Of course I’m afraid. But I bear military orders. Even a thousand deaths wouldn’t keep me from fulfilling my duty," Kartam replied.
"Military orders? What kind of orders? Is the Werewolf Kingdom planning to invade the territory of my High Elf Kingdom?" Li Yao interrogated.
"You misunderstand, Commander. Everyone knows the internal situation of our kingdom; we are already in chaos ourselves. We wouldn’t dare invade another kingdom’s land. I came here alone to clarify this to show our sincerity in resolving the matter." ...
