Chapter 1631: Chapter 1631: Harvest
The Solar Corona Temple was quickly taken control of, and the Withered Sun Legion swiftly stationed themselves to finalize inspections and clear out the remaining undead.
Li Yao glanced at the players who hadn’t yet recovered from the recent battles and shook his head slightly: "The S-rank bounty—although they didn’t complete it, their courage is commendable. Raise their reputation directly to ’Friendly,’ and sell the captured undead to them at a discounted price."
"Master, you are truly merciful." Morning Breeze drafted the command: "Actually, this works well—it lets them realize we’re not merely here for show and makes them understand the gap between themselves and our ace army."
The High Elf Army has the smallest numbers across all factions, but they are essentially all elite forces.
The players do not yet grasp this concept, but through this battle, they will gain a clearer understanding. Indirectly, it will show them they are not the main force; the Withered Sun Legion is their anchor of stability. Without the Withered Sun Legion, the Death Knights would have assaulted not just the King’s Scar but directly penetrated into the main army, decimating them to the point of total defeat.
Of course, Li Yao wasn’t acting out of benevolence; he simply wanted a slow and steady approach, fearing that players might become overly timid and avoid accepting high-difficulty quests after such a major blow.
Nevertheless, he was satisfied with the outcome this time. The players had put in significant effort, setting up numerous checkpoints, leading the Death Knights to wreak havoc while inevitably confusing the undead forces.
"Master, are you perhaps overestimating those undead? Most undead are crude and driven solely by their lust for slaughter," Morning Breeze remarked as he followed Li Yao toward a cleared-out hall.
"Do not underestimate the undead. The lower-tier ones indeed lack much intelligence, but the upper-tier undead must not be underestimated. The Scourge of the Undead has rampaged unfettered for years—that alone is proof. Furthermore, recognize that our greatest adversary this time is Dalkhan. Dalkhan was once one of the finest talents of the new generation, held in higher regard than even Lady Lyadrin and the Regent. Fairly speaking, despite being a traitor, his cunning personality is undoubtedly chilling," Li Yao sighed.
Dalkhan—a name that remains a thorn in the heart of every high elf. Once the most promising representative of the new generation, Dalkhan was a rising star whose performance in the Troll Wars was unmatched at its finale. He was hailed as the man most likely to become a supreme magician.
But in the end, he betrayed the kingdom, opened the High Elf Kingdom’s ultimate defensive magic barrier, and let the undead march in unchallenged, turning the kingdom into a pathway for the undead plague.
The Tower of the Windwalker, the Solar Corona Temple, Silvermoon Forest, Silvermoon City—and ultimately, he corrupted the magic source of the High Elf Kingdom, the Sunwell. Using the Sunwell, he resurrected a powerful lich.
This also rendered the Sunwell unusable, sparked magical addiction, and led to the greatest tragedy faced by the high elves.
It’s safe to say that the Witherbark hold an even deeper hatred for Dalkhan than the rest of the high elves. Therefore, after taking control of the Withered Sun Legion, Li Yao’s first objective was to sweep Dalkhan out of Daisom, which undoubtedly gained the Witherbark’s support.
Li Yao had just taken his seat at his main position when someone rushed inside.
"Master, the initial count of our harvest has been roughly compiled. More time is needed to calculate detailed numbers," the logistics officer said as he handed over a list.
Li Yao gave it a quick glance before saying, "Go ahead, read it aloud—I want the vice commanders to hear it as well."
The logistics officer promptly reported, "The primary gains this time include the treasury of the Solar Corona Temple and the energy hall at the magic nodes. The treasury mostly contains roughly fifty thousand standard-issue Death Knight Ice Armor sets and Rune Swords, along with corresponding magical materials estimated to be worth over five hundred thousand gold coins. There is also around eighty thousand gold coins worth of pure gold and silver. The energy hall primarily stores condensed Ash Energy extracted from the magic nodes, though its value is difficult to quantify."
"Not bad. As expected of a critical undead stronghold—after all, it was the Scourge Legion’s alchemy hub within the kingdom," Li Yao said, appearing unsurprised by the findings. Although seemingly substantial, in truth, it’s not overly significant. Even these primary gains wouldn’t be enough to distribute a gold coin per soldier.
To the players, this was an astronomical fortune, but to the Withered Sun Legion, it was merely a decent harvest.
Of course, there were plenty of other assets and intangible gains, but converting them to actual wealth would require time. Securing possession of the Solar Corona Temple itself was the most valuable acquisition.
Moreover, the fifty thousand Death Knight armor sets represent epic-level equipment. No amount of money could convince Li Yao to sell them. These are simply priceless—providing well-equipped, standardized gear for troops. Officers wear superior armor, which is already the limit for most races.
Having an entire army equipped with epic gear—a feat achieved only by the Death Knights of the Scourge Legion—gives Li Yao an additional fifty thousand elite close-combat troops, precisely what the Withered Sun Legion was lacking and in dire need of.
If the players were to find out about this haul, they’d likely go mad; for them, this wealth was unimaginably grand.
"Continue," Li Yao nodded.
"Yes, Master. Additionally, we recovered three experimental facilities. The first was dedicated to testing various plagues and potions, yielding a warehouse filled with assorted potions. The magicians’ preliminary analysis suggests that with minimal magical adjustments, these potions could be adapted for our use. Consuming them could increase overall combat capability by approximately fifteen percent. There’s an estimated total of thirty million bottles, and after adjusting them, we should be able to have around twenty million usable bottles," the logistics officer explained, producing a thumb-sized vial filled with a glowing essence of Sunwell energy mixed with death energy.
These potions would be unusable for the general high elf population, but they posed no issues for the Witherbark.
This gain was likewise immeasurable in monetary terms. As mentioned earlier, the Withered Sun Legion lacked funds. What they truly needed were usable assets. Despite their many hardships, the legion had been unable to fully equip themselves with high-grade potions. The existing supplies of mana and life potions were their short-term limit; this batch of combat-enhancing potions was a much-needed lifeline.
"The second alchemy facility was dedicated to Abomination production and mutation experiments, but it’s unlikely to be of immediate use to us. The third was a Gargoyle alchemy workshop filled with numerous incomplete prototype Gargoyles."
Li Yao nodded, "Seal the Abomination factory for now. I’ve already sent my Dark Rangers to Undercity—they should send personnel to take over the massive Abomination factory. In exchange, we might gain some much-needed resources. As for the Gargoyle workshop, is it possible to use these prototypes to reverse-engineer the Gargoyle’s construction process?"
Morning Breeze smiled and replied, "Rest assured, Master. As long as we have enough prototypes, our alchemy masters will be able to deduce the entire creation process within a short time and even propose improvements."
"Very well. I have only one request—if possible, alter the Gargoyles to allow for riders. Our air force is too limited, and Corrupted Butterflies are overly fragile. They’re fine for transport, but insufficient for combat." ...
