Chapter 1487: Chapter 1487: The Shadow Tide Team
In a small attack-defense training ground within an outer fortress, once used to train new recruits, it’s now occupied by a player army.
This team belongs to the Light Faction, and their strength is not weak at all. The summoned army mostly consists of elite troops, with even the few elite legions consisting of special forces, not judged purely by quality.
The actual fighting army in the training ground only needs ten thousand to defend steadily, the middle army being ones rotated in and out. At the training ground’s commander platform, a team of players are leisurely watching the battle.
"Hahaha, it’s so refreshing. This place just makes it so easy for us to progress."
"Exactly, if Sister Meng hadn’t discovered this mission, we would still be struggling like others to accumulate merits, not having progress delivered to our doorstep like we do now," said the Mage, also laughing.
"These NPCs are really stupid. If they had directly dispatched their best troops or used more powerful methods, we would probably have been overwhelmed by now. Instead, they’re letting us slowly rack up the progress without us having to lift a finger."
"Isn’t it foolish of them? They think they can train an elite legion using us, little do they know we also need these rookie monster armies to advance. And they think we are trapped, unaware of our special teleport tools. By the time we amass the points, even if we lose some troops here, we’ve still profited."
"Too bad they can’t manage that, huh?"
"The key is, us regular roles get to relax, all the players who can turn invisible are off causing havoc and earning progress."
"The only annoyance is Sister Meng finding the mission and then getting killed by that scumbag Prairie Fire. Our leader is so powerful, can’t he just kill Prairie Fire and avenge Sister Meng?"
The leader, who was watching the battle while wiping a dark golden greatsword, slightly frowned when he heard this, flicked his golden hair, and spoke in a deep, slightly hoarse voice: "Prairie Fire, he’s just a minor annoyance. Although Meng warned us about Prairie Fire taking the mission we were about to receive, you saw it yourself, he is just one person; even with exceptional skills, he was still blasted away by the final cannons. If we don’t encounter him, let it be, but if we do, killing him would be easy."
"That’s our boss, hehe, I’d say the same; Prairie Fire might have some tricks, but more of it is just the Chinese hyping him up. Without competition, Prairie Fire becomes their fig leaf."
"I mean, come on, you guys, they haven’t had a team in the international finals for so many years, now that they’ve finally got someone like Prairie Fire, shouldn’t they be allowed some self-indulgence and comfort?"
The crowd unanimously agreed, even those responsible for high destruction and capable of stealth couldn’t help but complain a few times in the channel.
"We can’t just say that, Prairie Fire’s skills are certainly impressive, this we must admit, only then can we have a chance to surpass him. But what I want to say is, ultimately one person can’t accomplish much, especially here, hehe, so we should stay calm, acknowledge the enemy’s strength, but not fear it. Instead, we should find the enemy’s weaknesses, to use their Chinese saying, ’exploit our strengths against their weaknesses to strike them down in one move.’" the leader said, standing up: "Alright, enough rest, it’s our turn to go up and practice our formations, but stay alert and guard our Teleport Crystal in the middle."
"Don’t worry, boss, we’ve got this training ground locked down tight," replied another player.
"Hehe, the key is they don’t even know what the crystal does, not to mention the confusing crystals, they can’t possibly sabotage the teleportation device," the leader thought, and felt much reassured, as everyone eagerly joined the battle to hone their formation.
Li Yao looked down from the shadow of a pointed pillar on the training ground, observing the battle below. Although the fight was fierce, it was mainly the player teams’ armies reaping the benefits. However, Li Yao noticed that the bodies of those killed swiftly disintegrated and were absorbed by the entire fortress, turning into streams of blood that merged into the bodies of the remaining Uldaman warriors who had survived the battle.
Those soldiers who had absorbed the gases appeared to be slowly, but visibly, becoming more formidable.
Li Yao glanced again at the distant team who was laughing and joking; he naturally did not know that they were mocking him, and his purpose was not innocent, as he was here to wreak havoc.
"What clever plans they all have—one wants to use the sacrifice of the fallen War God to quickly improve their army’s quality, being used as a Sharpening stone without knowing it. Another actually has a Shift Crystal Array, hoping to grind their progress here, thinking they can advance or retreat freely, but too bad, they’ve encountered me, and that’s their bad luck."
A hidden light flickered in Li Yao’s eyes as he constantly calculated and contemplated the layout of the training ground, looking for what he needed.
After a while, he revealed a smile: "Found it. This time it’s good, capable of ruining the opponents’ progress and also completing a hidden subplot—destroying the Array of the blood sacrifice to the fallen War God, I guess it could make considerable progress."
Meanwhile, a member of the Light Faction team inadvertently saw what was happening behind them and said with a changed expression, "Leader, look at the back command tower!"
Upon hearing this, everyone saw Li Yao brazenly appearing at the top of the tower, which alarmed them.
Only the leader sneered, "It’s hard to find a place to die, and if he seeks it himself, we can’t blame us."
However, before they could act, they heard Li Yao loudly saying, "Friends from the shadow tide, I come to lend you a hand."
Li Yao’s body was then enveloped by numerous tentacles, which, as they wildly danced, began throwing out huge barrels.
"Holy shit, these are super explosive barrels made by master-level engineering." A team member knowledgeable in engineering shouted, not yet at that level himself, but clearly aware of every stage of the crafts he could produce.
"Are these barrels very powerful, and they are not even thrown at us?" one team member asked confusedly.
"Using these explosive barrels is exceptionally rare for ordinary folks, it’s absolutely enough to instantly kill us, and now that they’re appearing, it means Prairie Fire has reached the master level. Combined with his own engineering gadget enhancements, the power is probably..."
Before the team member could finish, the first explosive barrel hit the training ground’s walls, followed by the second, then the third, up to the ninth.
Huge successive explosions drowned out all other sounds, as everyone watched dumbstruck.
They noticed, although the explosive barrels were immensely powerful, they actually did not inflict much damage; some barrels even landed on remote parts of the wall, not hitting a single person.
The team members revealed mocking smiles, and just as they were about to openly scoff, they hadn’t gotten a chance to speak when they felt the ground tremble slightly, followed by...
