Chapter 1466: Evil

Chapter 1466: Chapter 1466: Evil

Several Dwarves lifted their wine skins and shouted loudly: "For the glory of the Ancient Gods."

Then everyone drank heartily, except for the captain at the forefront, who took a sip and frowned as he surveyed the surroundings. However, he quickly gathered his thoughts and said loudly: "Our good days are finally coming. Once we secure our foothold in the surface world, we will have endless Gold Coins and inexhaustible fine wine."

"Heh heh, the captain is right. Under the guidance of the great Ancient Gods and our wise Marshal, how could those feeble surface dwellers stand a chance against us? Only when they venture deeply into our city will they realize that they are entering a place more terrifying than hell itself."

"Cut the nonsense, since when is a lowly soldier concerned with a Marshal’s worries? My goal is simple: to receive the blessing of the Ancient Gods and aspire to shed this filthy flesh as soon as possible. Then, I’ll find a sun-kissed surface Dwarf lass to sire a brood of new generations blessed by the Ancient Gods. That would be the life."

"If you despise our current flesh so much, why limit yourself to Dwarven dames? I’ve heard Minotaur ladies are sturdy; I like that type."

"You sure have peculiar tastes. High Elf maidens are where it’s at—I’ve heard their skin is so tender, you could probably wring water out of it with a pinch."

As these folks amused themselves with their drinks and dreams of a bright future, they were utterly oblivious that their end was near, and as they pressed on, their chances of escape dwindled to none.

"Sorry, not to burst your wonderful dream, but you’re really out of luck to have run into me."

Li Yao’s figure appeared in front of this patrol squad.

The Dwarves quickly put away their wine skins and drew their weapons; the drunkenness and haze from moments ago had completely dissipated, making them appear even more elite.

The leading captain rebuked: "What the devil are you, some creature? Monsters should dwell in dark corners. The Magma Fortress is no place for the likes of you to run wild."

Li Yao was startled and then chuckled wryly: "In this state, I really do look like a monster, but having been tainted by the Blood of the Ancient God, are you not monsters yourselves?"

"What nonsense are you spouting, daring to insult our great Ancient Gods. I had intended to spare your life, but since you have blasphemed against the divine, beast, your death is assured. Attack!"

Following the captain’s command, the squad charged at Li Yao in a well-coordinated manner, with the long-range Fire Gun wielders also pulling their triggers. It was evident that this was a squad with great synergy in their advance and retreat.

"You think you can mess with guns in front of me?"

Li Yao didn’t move an inch, and as the bullets were about to reach him, a Chain encircling Li Yao suddenly struck out.

Ding!

The bullet was deflected back. Li Yao had already mastered the art of defending and countering ranged attacks, and with divine-level spiritual power, his control over details was incredibly precise.

The deflection was just right—not too much force to avoid affecting the Chain, thereby compromising precision, nor too little force, which would be insufficient for deflection.

Timing and angle were also spot-on—a little too early or late could have led to unpredictable bullet behavior. This ’unpredictability’ didn’t mean a deviation, but inability to alter the bullet’s path.

Yet precisely at the moment Li Yao counterattacked, he was able to slightly adjust the bullet’s trajectory without affecting the defense.

Thump...

The Dwarf Rogue, who had just entered stealth mode and dismounted, was immediately struck through the throat by the bullet, his silhouette revealing his incredulous expression as he looked at the Dwarf Hunter who was about to fire a second shot.

The Dwarf Hunter was also dumbfounded. This was beyond seeing Undead; he wasn’t surprised by the defense, and had even prepared for it, but while he was prepared, down went the Rogue, having never seen such a bizarre deflective maneuver.

At the same time, countless bone spurs sprouted from the ground, impaling their mounts beneath them, and even the four Dwarves riding the mounts were more or less injured. Hunter, still shocked by Li Yao’s riposte, was caught off guard and skewered by several bone spurs through his body, letting out a mournful scream.

What chilled their hearts even more was that around them, a mass of skeletons were reassembling. One by one, formidable Skeleton warriors started encircling them, and what was even more terrifying was that these reassembled Skeletons seemed to secrete a copious amount of metallic liquid from their bodies.

In an instant, these Skeletons appeared to have generated flesh made of steel, transforming into metallic Bone creatures as if they had evolved from the lowest level Skeletons into powerful Death Knights in a blink of an eye.

The three of them, back to back, protected the severely wounded Hunter in the center, but their eyes were filled with despair.

Still unclear about what kind of enemy they were facing, out of their group of five, one was dead and another severely injured, while the remaining three were all injured as well.

Moreover, to their sorrow, they realized that apart from their captain who was a high-level boss, the rest of them were not even on par with these Bone creatures, at best on equal footing.

Surrounded by over a thousand enemies stronger than themselves, their fate was obvious. Also, all their mounts had been penetrated by bone spurs, and they estimated that even an attempt to run would not outpace their adversaries.

"Something’s not right, this kind of tactic, you must be from the Dark Camp or the Chaos Camp on the surface, right? Don’t you only send new recruits? Why would even a powerful being like you dare to come here? Aren’t you afraid the other camps would turn against you?" the captain rebuked.

Upon hearing this, Li Yao smiled: "Not bad, seems like you know quite a bit, I was actually worried."

About what, there was no need to say, the captain could vaguely guess, and he roared furiously: "For the glory of the Ancient God, fight to the death."

"Fight to the death."

"Fight to the death."

"Fight to the death."

Even the grievously wounded Hunter shakily lifted his bloodstained Hunting rifle.

But the outcome was all too clear. The surrounding Skeletons struck and killed them on the spot. Only the captain was critically wounded and a few steel Bone creatures carried him in front of Li Yao.

"Still not dead after all this, indeed corrupted by the Blood of the Ancient God," sighed Li Yao, extending a palm shrouded in dark energy to cover the Dwarf’s face.

A stream of gray mist flowed from Li Yao’s fingers into the Dwarf captain’s orifices. The weakened captain yelled, "So, you really came to gather intelligence. But this is a futile dream. For the Ancient God..."

Crack...

The ancient Dwarf’s head burst open suddenly, and Li Yao’s eerie Cloak flicked to fling off the flesh without a single drop staining him.

Li Yao extended his other hand, with countless sinister tentacles wildly twisting, seemingly rooted in the Void, tearing a faint soul that had plunged into the ground.

This Spirit had become distorted; it was no longer in the form of a Dwarf. They had forsaken the Temple of a Thousand Gods and instead worshipped the Evil God, an even more malevolent Ancient God. Upon their death, their souls would fall into the nearest prison holding the Ancient God, using the accumulated faith and souls of the believers to break the Temple’s chains.

"No, what is this, you’re a monster..."

The captain’s twisted Spirit screamed, filled with utter terror, having never imagined that self-detonating his head would not allow him to escape the control of this strange being.

Li Yao looked as numerous tentacles tore the Spirit in front of him, a wicked smile on his face: "This is also a method of the Ancient God, even the Original God’s method. What’s wrong? You, who revere the Ancient Gods so much, can’t even recognize the body of an Ancient God?"...
