Chapter 1465: Chapter 1465 Investigation

"The guild leader makes some sense, but it’s too risky. We know too little about the situation. Your judgment is just personal intuition. Such rash involvement in a conflict we don’t fully understand will put us in a passive position. No one can guarantee that when we confront the Uldaman army, this mysterious force won’t emerge from somewhere and attack us," the enchantress said after pondering for a moment.

"I feel the same way. It’s really too risky, almost like gambling. What if we lose the bet? Although our luck has always been good and luck is indeed important, strength should still be the foundation. Our luck won’t always hold up," Li Jie also said.

Everyone else nodded in agreement. This raid is different from the others – if we fail, we’ll be eliminated. Not to mention the huge losses, who knows how long it will take to come back and regain access to the path.

Even if we regained control over the passage, we would likely be far behind the others.

"I agree with big brother’s perspective." Tongtong expressed, with another two or so people supporting Li Yao. However, it was less than ten people in total, and it was clear that the majority preferred to play it safe.

"Since you also mentioned earlier that we can’t race ahead alone, let’s be cautious," Qin Feng Yi also said.

Li Yao nodded, "You are right. We have too little information, and the Scouts can’t obtain more. The other passage is indeed a good alternative. However, I have another idea. That is for you to normally capture the medium and large strongholds, while I go and scout by myself. I always feel this place presents a great opportunity."

"Isn’t that too risky?" After saying this, Fireworks added, "The guild leader’s skills are unquestionably excellent, but it’s too dangerous for you to go alone. It might be better to take some troops with you."

"Dividing forces is not appropriate."

Li Yao countered the objections before they were made: "Our current formation is just right. Having me there or not won’t really affect the Legion’s combat effectiveness. If we divide our forces, our military formation will have significant flaws and become less agile. I’m not truly taking a risk; you all should know that I still have my Soul Form. My main body will follow the team, while I will scout out the area in my Soul Form. You’ll be attacking the strongholds. By the time you have captured them, I should already have a good understanding of the situation. If things look good, we can turn back; if not, we’ll continue moving forward."

Everyone’s eyes lit up at this idea. Li Yao’s death in Soul Form would only result in his return to his physical body, which wouldn’t affect the team or Li Yao himself. Absolutely nothing can go awry with Li Yao; the entire team and Legion revolve around him as the core. He cannot afford any mishap.

"If there are no issues, then I’ll hand over the command of the Legion to Feng Yi. As for the core team’s matters, the core group can discuss them," Li Yao decided.

"Take care, big brother," Tongtong said.

"Hmm, nothing will happen to me. To scout out and return if I’m unsatisfied is but a thought away. Isn’t that fast?"

After speaking, Li Yao went to the Hell Scorpion Seat, fastened the straps to secure his body, and directly activated the Death God’s form.

Compared to before, the current form of Death God has become more substantial.

In the beginning, he didn’t even have hands, just a mist. Now, with increased strength and spiritual power, he can control that dark energy. Although he still doesn’t have feet and remains a cloud of mist, he has managed to condense hands.

Even his facial features have become clearer, and his physical body’s equipment also appears on his Soul Form, although it is merely a simulation, and not the actual equipment.

Li Yao, now nearly weightless, promptly summoned a Scout and then rode off on a bat, separating from the Legion.

A quarter of an hour later, Li Yao had traversed a passageway under the swift flight of his bat, arriving at a vast underground world.

The terrain here was quite complex, with stalactites and lava pools, steam that could scorch to the extreme occasionally burped out without any warning. The air was filled with a bizarre mix of sulfur and decay which was truly unbearable, so Li Yao simply blocked his sense of taste.

To say he was a Soul Body now wasn’t precise; describing him as an elemental body was more accurate. Specifically, the Death God form constructed an elemental body using death energy to house his spirit.

If he were a true spirit, the death of his physical body would mean death to him as well. None of the functionalities he possessed now would exist; the spirit would remain intact even after death. Thus, this elemental body, with increased strength, also possessed all the normal functions of a physical body.

Having dispatched the Scout, Li Yao slipped into the shadows, wandering silently through this eerie place.

Li Yao’s goal was clear: to find the headquarters of the mysterious force he had set up here in Uldaman, and then look for opportunities.

The Uldaman stronghold was easy to find, a sizeable military fortress that housed an elite force of over a million, strongly situated and taking advantage of the complex terrain to form an impregnable fortress.

It radiated securely over this slice of the underground world, with over a million soldiers, plus some regular residents, resulting in an enormously large population and naturally vast architectural complex.

"I need critical intelligence from Sister Li; the sentries patrol this road every quarter hour, which does allow for an ambush."

From a great distance away, Li Yao looked down at the fortress and muttered to himself, then summoned hundreds of Skeletons.

"This place is not bad, the road is littered with bones."

The Skeletons of Li Yao disassembled themselves, scattering around and blending in with the other bones nearby.

Meanwhile, Li Yao waited behind a large boulder, anticipating the patrol.

A few minutes later, a five-person patrol stumbled upon this area, with one Dwarf frowning slightly: "Something’s wrong, have you noticed there are more bones around than before?"

Another Dwarf, taking a swig from his flask, said: "This godforsaken place is littered with bones everywhere; who can tell them apart? You’re too sensitive. Those damn rats we’re hunting are barely surviving, let alone threatening the fortress. It’s us hunting them down, okay? Try this, it’s barley beer passed down from the surface, absolutely pure and delicious."

The lead Dwarf replied helplessly: "You know we’re not allowed to drink in the army, don’t you?"

The Dwarf who had been drinking scoffed: "The new Commander is nuts. We Dwarves have always fought battles with booze. Despite that, he sets such rules. Even the Generals are secretly defying it. If they aren’t worried, why should we be?"

The captain swallowed his saliva, realizing that what the drinking Dwarf had said was true; Dwarves indeed can’t do without their alcohol. Carefully scanning his surroundings and seeing nothing out of the ordinary, he snatched the flask and started gulping down the liquor himself.

Seeing their captain also drinking, the others pulled out their flasks from nowhere, continuing on the patrol while sipping their drinks...
