Chapter 1445: Chapter 1445: Misunderstanding
The Guardian of Order was also considered a dark horse in Starfire, and although his skills were decent, there were simply too many talented players in Starfire, making it not so easy to stand out.
But ever since he completed a major part of his quest and his strength increased, he truly shone brightly in this grand competition. Coupled with his diligent effort in guild quests, and his sufficient guild seniority and contributions, not to mention Feng Yi’s intelligence reporting no issues with him, he was able to join the core group.
The Guardian of Order’s attire resembled a robe woven from leaves, with green radiance and foliage swirling around him, and his helmet was fashioned as a wolf’s head, completely concealing his face.
Not to mention strangers, even most within the guild didn’t know if he was a man or a woman.
And as soon as he stepped out of the team, he would transform into a Phantom Tiger, making it even harder to distinguish.
"This is our man, it’s your turn now," Li Yao said.
The ancient Dwarf nodded: "This is a Druid, it looks like he’s good at harnessing the power of the wild. Who can help me take him down?"
"Let me do it," said the Giant standing at the back.
The ancient Dwarf glanced behind him before responding, "Fine, let him change as he will, stay still and use your strength and power to crush him."
This Giant towered over six yards tall, which made him a Giant in the eyes of the players. Additionally, his body was angular with edges and corners, resembling a stone sculpture.
Although he was now a creature of flesh and blood, his outermost layer hadn’t fully transformed to flesh.
"Offspring of indeterminate sex, I am a magnificent creation of the titan, a gatekeeper of Norgannon, prepare to kneel," the Norgannon gatekeeper spoke in a very calm tone, without any trace of arrogance, as if stating a fact that couldn’t be more ordinary.
"Heh heh," chuckled the Guardian of Order, not responding, preferring to let actions speak for themselves.
Li Yao spoke up, "You really know how to gild yourself. You are but a flawed product made by the Guardians created by the titans themselves, who were titan creations to begin with. They intended to create their own race in their image, but lacked the means to do so. Even when the titans created Mechanical Gnomes and Earth Spirits, there were many failures. Especially since they themselves were titan creations. And yet you ended up as these oddities."
"That would be fine on its own; if nothing else, you are at least good for housekeeping. What a pity that even the Old Gods disdain you, unwilling to spend their power to release the Curse of Flesh to completely fleshify you. With that, you still betrayed your creators and the titans, and you have the nerve to brag about it - I really don’t know where you get the courage."
Li Yao seemed to be mocking the other party, but in fact, he was outlining their origins and subtly hinting at their area of expertise.
The titans themselves were non-organic beings. The things they created were mainly proficient in manipulating elements. Corrupted by the old gods and endowed with dark power, yet not fully fleshified, they could still spring to life; this indicated that the opponent possessed some combined abilities of both forces.
The ancient Dwarf of course caught on and snorted coldly, "It seems you have little confidence in your own subordinate, having to give such hints."
"You could say the same. I reckon this watchdog, oh, gatekeeper has been locked up here and doesn’t know what a Druid is. You must have been secretly transmitting information," Li Yao said with a laugh.
The ancient Dwarf’s expression changed. The underground world was indeed isolated; not to mention ordinary people, even their leaders like himself had very limited knowledge about it. Not being a local guardian, he wasn’t clear on specific details either, and his own knowledge was just some general information.
He had just used the Earth Spirits’ secret method to transmit information through rocks, and for the other party to notice such a subtle mental fluctuation was truly surprising, bringing a sense of foreboding to his heart.
But with the arrow on the bow, he had to shoot and could only wait and see.
"Enough talk, let’s see the real deal," he said.
The leaders of both sides signaled the start, but neither rushed to make a move.
The gatekeeper knew what a Druid was, and with the opponent now in Ghost Tiger Form and considering the distance, it was almost impossible to strike first.
And indeed, that was the case. As the battle commenced, the Phantom Tiger shattered into an illusion and disappeared from everyone’s sight.
Only the people watching the live stream could see that the Phantom Tiger’s form reappeared about a dozen yards away from its original position and had entered stealth mode.
In essence, a Druid’s hunting form is akin to that of a thief. But in reality, its means of self-preservation are not as good as a thief’s. So, it’s often referred to as a simplified version.
For example, the hunting form is a simplified version of a thief, the Caster Owl Form is a weakened version of a Mage, and the Tank Bear Form is a weakened version of a warrior.
However, due to its versatile nature, Druids have found a place in the market. Even if they can’t use many items and tools in their beast forms, their all-rounder qualities make them an indispensable part of team compositions. Moreover, specializing in a particular transformation grants unique skills.
As levels increase, Druids become versatile all-terrain all-rounders, and their transformative forms are majestic and adorable. Many girls are willing to team up with Druids. After completing special quests, the travel form, which can also serve as a mount, allows Druids to adventure through the old god-laden magical world with their favorite girls, heh heh.
But I digress. The point is to illustrate the status of Druids; in any case, even with average skills, it’s a career that’s relatively easy to find employment in, a great all-rounder, indispensable for group formation.
However, due to their variability, mastering Druids is all the more difficult. It requires a clear strategy and the ability to truly adapt on the fly. Otherwise, as other professions say, they are second-rate thieves, second-rate mages, second-rate tanks.
"Little one, sneaking around in the underground world is the most useless thing. In the dim world below, our ears are our most powerful weapon," said the gatekeeper as his ears elongated, seemingly drawing in every trace of sound.
But after a while, the gatekeeper frowned slightly, clearly unable to locate the Druid.
"Pfft," giggled the audience, with one in a crisp voice saying, "You underground bumpkin, you must have never seen the paws of a feline. Even a well-trained thief can move without making a sound, let alone cats with their padded paws. No matter how good your ears are, if they’re careful, you won’t hear a thing."
The gatekeeper’s eyes reddened, and the rest of the denizens of the underground world looked embarrassed. They had only just emerged to the surface and found themselves trapped, with no time to learn about the outside world.
They could only passively acquire some information, but who would have the specifics right away? Who would spontaneously provide a screed on feline paws? Moreover, among the Old Gods’ followers, aside from the perverted Necromancers and Liches who dabbled in Undead Magic, who would bother researching such a thing? Their ignorance wasn’t surprising.
But this also informed viewers of the peculiar powers of certain underground creatures: heightened sensitivity to sound...
