Misfit At Magic Academy: They Wanted a Godly Summon, Got Me Instead
Chapter 34: Aimer’s Happiness is a Max-level Spell!

Chapter 34: Aimer’s Happiness is a Max-level Spell!

Streams of energy poured from the knights’ shields, forming into stones.

Before us stood a dozen three-meter-tall stone golems, brimming with magical power.

"They move on strict command," I muttered, tense. "If they’re high-level summons, they must have instincts. Aimer, hold onto my shoulder!"

I held out my arm to her.

Magical weapons formed in the golems’ hands. The lower-tier ones wielded swords, while the larger ones grabbed massive axes.

"Get a grip, Aimer. Can you use Destruction magic?"

"J-just a little... I’ve only mastered the basics of Fire."

The golems began stepping toward us. The knights summoned another dozen.

"That’s enough. I’ll fight them—just back me up with fireballs, got it? Don’t come close!"

Aimer flinched at my commanding tone. She had no choice but to step back.

Tension fell across the battlefield. The other participants were equally stunned.

"Radiant Sword!"

Light in my palm took the shape of a long blade. I rushed straight at the golems.

The first one swung at me—too slowly! I leapt onto its shoulder and sliced its head clean off.

The golem collapsed, its energy fading. I charged forward.

Dodging, weaving, I took them down one by one, but soon they attacked as a group.

Dodging one slow strike is easy—not when you’re surrounded!

I cleaved one in two from top to bottom like splitting a mountain. The others’ sluggish attacks caused them to hit each other.

I was surrounded. More golems just kept coming.

I leapt onto their heads, slipped beneath their legs, tore free from their grips, but why weren’t they stopping?

In the end, Aimer counted exactly thirty-one golems. A few began turning their attention to her.

She hesitated. Deep inside, she was upset she’d left the whole burden on my shoulders.

She thought of herself as weak—compared to me, she had done nothing. The moment her trump card was gone, she gave up.

"I won’t allow that!" she shouted, raising her hands. "Atheron is fighting for me while I stand here doing nothing. I won’t let him outshine me!"

Her palms ignited with flame. She raised them high, and the fire gathered into a massive orb.

"You see me as helpless—but I’ll prove otherwise! Fireball!!"

The orb flew toward a huge golem with an axe and exploded just as it was about to strike me.

I looked at her, surprised.

"Well done!"

Ten in front. Four behind. Eight more approached Aimer.

This is bad. Time to give it my all!

I dashed forward—so fast I pierced through them like a beam of light.

With blinding strikes, I cut down golems before they could even react.

"Fireball!"

Three fiery orbs flew and detonated more giants. Aimer was holding her own.

But when enemies got too close, she couldn’t cast fast enough. Behind her, a stone swordsman raised his weapon like a guillotine.

She didn’t have time to react. But in the blink of an eye, the golem was split in two. I stood behind it.

"Don’t let yourself die. Always ask for help when you’re outpaced."

My sharp gaze brought her back to her senses. She blinked again—and I had already dispatched three more golems near us.

Aimer turned away.

"That guy... Just a few minutes ago, we were surrounded by thirty enemies. How did he defeat them all so fast?"

She couldn’t even track me as I jumped around and struck from behind. The golems crumbled like sand.

The Golden Order knights banged their swords on their shields.

This time, new enemies surrounded us — chimeras. Lion heads. Bear claws. Hawk wings.

They soared into the sky and dove at us with merciless roars. A totally different threat. A new level of difficulty!

"Aimer, change of plans!"

I summoned the Frost Wheel — six icy crystals hovered above me.

With a flick of my wrist, I summoned two curved swords of light.

"We’re spamming now. Don’t fall behind."

"Y-yeah!.."

She stared with glowing eyes. Right now, I didn’t look like an outcast. I looked like a legendary knight from the old tales.

I dodged the chimeras and struck back. Aimer stayed by my side every step.

We cast fire spells one after another. The ground beneath us was lit with flames and soaked in blood.

"Fireshot! Fireball! Ray of Flame!"

"Frost Wheel! Energy Beam! Magic Barrier!"

We weren’t fighting. We were dancing across the battlefield like a single, united force. The judges had no choice but to acknowledge our skill.

One hour later.

"Stage three complete! That concludes the intense battles. Congratulations to the fifteen teams moving forward!"

Sweat dripped from our chins. Our lungs screamed for air. Our mana was completely drained.

"HURRAAAH!!"

The crowd cheered for all thirty participants. Parents were the most overjoyed.

The knights approached us.

"148 defeated targets. Congratulations."

148? I wonder if anyone beat that.

We put on our robes and left the field. As we walked down the red carpet toward the main entrance, we were greeted with confetti and flower bouquets.

In the crowd, I saw Lirael in the front row. She looked at me with a serene gaze.

I waved to her and stepped forward.

"How’re you holding up, kids?" Sylas clapped us on the back. "We took down 170 targets. And you?"

Aimer tensed. That number sent a chill through her.

"Tyrion’s team took out 140," Sylas added with a laugh.

"Why don’t you go back to your friend?" Aimer forced a grumpy expression.

"Alright, alright. Don’t be mad. I just came to check on you."

We weren’t the only ones who gave it our all. We had to accept that anyone could win first place.

"Nervous?" I nudged her shoulder. "Aimer, no matter what the outcome, we should be proud we got to show who we are."

"Don’t lie. You don’t care how others see you."

"Maybe not. In the end, we did this for ourselves."

"I... I don’t know what place we’ll get. But it’s clear we’re not the only ones who want to win. Atheron, you shined brighter than anyone—for me. I’ll be grateful to you for the rest of my life—"

Someone bumped her shoulder. Maybe by accident. Aimer didn’t react.

She grabbed my sleeve, not wanting to fall behind. Her eyes lowered to hide her expression.

Soon, we stood on the stage before everyone. The announcer read out the top ten teams.
