Misfit At Magic Academy: They Wanted a Godly Summon, Got Me Instead
Chapter 33: Her Summon, Crushing the Academy’s Tournament

Chapter 33: Her Summon, Crushing the Academy’s Tournament

The golden sun rose over the academy, lighting up the Hanging Gardens, where preparations for the festival were already in full swing.

Magical book stalls, enchanted accessories, and potion vendors lined the square’s edges. At its center, a massive open arena was being assembled — the main battlefield for the grand tournament of the year.

The Student Council President addressed thousands of students, their families, and esteemed guests. The VIP section brimmed with nobles and mages from various factions.

Knights in golden armor bearing the Ashgrad crest ensured security. Dancers from across the continent performed. Drums echoed in rhythmic steps.

And then, as the Student Council President stepped onto the main stage and uttered the long-awaited words...

"The Royal Academy of Magic thanks all who’ve gathered for this magnificent celebration. With that... I declare the tournament officially open!"

Confetti cannons fired into the sky, showering the field in whirling bursts of color and light.

All fifty teams marched onto the field — a hundred contestants in total. Mages of the Academy, from first-years to seniors. Some stood composed, others with unspoken challenge in their eyes.

"Now! All teams, prepare for the First Stage!"

The first stage: demonstration of magical ability. Judges evaluated power, technique, and originality.

The stronger the spell, the more points? Perfect. I know exactly what to show them.

Rolling my shoulders, I glanced at Aimer. She looked different today — light uniform, minimal accessories. Just one ponytail instead of two. Her eyes? Sharp as blades.

"Ready?"

She nodded, focused.

"Did you even sleep? You look like a bundle of nerves. Relax a bit."

"That doesn’t matter. Atheron, today is my day. I have to prove myself. There’s no turning back!"

She raised her voice unexpectedly. Confidence — undeniable. But pressure like that can snap you in two.

"...I need to be strong. I need to keep up with you. I’ll give it my all — so you better do the same!"

She clenched her fists. Her shoulders squared.

This day meant everything to her. She burned to win.

And I respected that.

"Damn right."

Stage One began.

Teams took turns showcasing their magic. Some performed complex combos, others summoned fire wolves, frost tigers, horned beasts.

This tournament was the spotlight. Factions scouted for talent.

Amon, recovering after his defeat by Salazar, delivered a four-spell combo. Good. He didn’t fold.

Even Sylas went all in. Sweat ran down his face, but his gaze? Stone cold. That bastard never backs down.

"Arcane Arrows! Energy Beam! High Spirit Summon! Supreme Magicka—!"

Tyrion wasn’t holding back either.

"My loyal High Spirit... come forth!"

He summoned a High Spirit — a snow leopard with a radiant tail and a helmet. A reverent sight.

So that’s what beings like me look like...

Saddler, Tyrion... all accounted for. But where were Salazar and Raigetsu?

"Now, team Aimer!" the Student Council announced.

Judges turned their eyes on us. Calm as ever, I began the summoning rite.

Rune. Flash. Wind.

FWOOOSH!

Kagerou—

A blue wyvern crashed from the sky, massive sword clutched in its jaws. Its roar tore through clouds and echoed across the arena.

I smirked and stroked its snout.

"You’ve grown."

Amon and his summons scowled in silence.

Some judges stood and applauded. They forgot I wasn’t the only one on this team.

Aimer was nervous. This was her moment — she had to prove herself. She didn’t want to drag me down.

Her shoulders trembled. She’d been breathing erratically since our turn started.

A four-spell combo — that was her plan. A feat rare even among prodigies.

At first, I didn’t believe her. But the resolve in her eyes... I couldn’t deny it.

This girl—she’s the kind who’ll defy the system itself. Only prodigies allowed to use such combos? Huh, she’ll prove them wrong.

Prove that hard work can break the rules of blood.

"You’ve got this, Aimer. Show them."

Through the roar of the crowd, through the ringing in her ears, she met my gaze. Nodded. Smiled. Deep breath — exhale.

"He’s right," she thought.

She stepped forward. Began the combo.

Hand to the ground — shards of crystal shot upward, forming a shimmering cage around the dummies.

Arm raised — a rumble burst from her core, unleashing a freezing wave that sealed everything inside.

One step forward — she clenched her fist. The crystals glowed, fractured. Shards danced across the field.

Then came the final piece:

"Supreme Magicka..."

A core of radiant energy pulsed in her hand. She slammed it into the center of the field.

"Absolute Collapse."

The space contracted — everything inside was drawn to the center — then: a blinding flash.

The dummies vanished. Not even ash remained.

"She used her Supreme technique...?" whispered one.

"Not bad at all!" said another.

Few dared reveal their Supreme techniques. Only those who made it the heart of their strategy.

The judges delivered their verdict. Ten teams eliminated. We advanced.

"Excellent! Stage One is complete. Moving on to the Second Stage!"

This one was easier than Aimer described. 20 Blue teams, 20 Red. Reds attack. Blues defend. Objective: capture the flag. Time limit: one hour.

"We’re Red?"

"Yep. Lucky us. No real threats among them."

"Perfect. Let’s make this quick."

I stepped onto the field with a grin. The first team surrendered the moment Kagerou appeared.

"A dragon! Th-that’s a dragon!" one of them screamed and dove underground.

They didn’t even raise their hands. The flag was ours.

Sorry, but even I wouldn’t know how to beat us with my summon in play.

Aimer watched silently. Her eyes spoke louder than words.

"Team Aimer has completed the task in one minute! A new record! Team Silva eliminated!"

Others fought with everything they had. Tense battles. Judges observed through enchanted crystals.

"Team Tyrion finishes in two minutes — second-best result! Team Gyro is out!"

Aimer tensed.

Tyrion... One of the triplets. A High Spirit summoner — one of the strongest classes. So he’s in our league too?

Sylas and his teammate were struggling. Battling Saddler and the fifth-ranked Kaien.

It wasn’t about power — it was a war of attrition. A fight like that could cost dearly in the next stage. But if you lost here, you were out.

"How many times have we fought, and you still manage to surprise me!" Sylas shouted.

Fierce Saddler, powerful beyond belief, held nothing back.

"My dear friend, I’m here for one thing — your damn flag. So quit wasting time, Saddler!!"

Their mana was nearly drained. Every strike felt like a spear. But neither would yield.

"Give me the flag."

One hour later.

"Congratulations to the twenty teams advancing to the Third Stage!"

Golden Order Knights entered the field.

The objective: eliminate as many magical beasts as possible, summoned by the knights. Time: one hour.

"If you survive this phase and complete the objective," said the Student Council, "you’ll be among the top-ranking mages of this tournament!"

Teams spread across the battlefield.

Before us — golden-armored knights. They slammed their shields into the ground. Their crests turned crimson.

THUMP!

Our bodies lit up with sealing runes. I instantly felt it — my summoning ability was gone!

"In this stage, mages are stripped of one of their most vital abilities. The judges themselves selected what each of you would lose."

"Aimer! What did they take from you?! AIMER!"

Her eyes trembled. She could barely stand.

"I... I can’t feel my Magicka..."

Damn it. They stripped her entire school of magic? Those judges have lost it...

They hit her where it hurt. Confidence washed away like sand under a wave.

"Pull yourself together... We’ve got an hour to survive these knights."

We breezed through the early stages, but now...

The tables have turned.

"And now," said the Student Council President, "let the stage... begin."
