Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 690 - 690 Six Hundred and Eighty-Two Outside
690: Chapter Six Hundred and Eighty-Two: Outside 690: Chapter Six Hundred and Eighty-Two: Outside Ivan and Uriyangko had deployed all the men they could spare.
There was no reserve team, no complex tactics, just splitting the men into two groups.
The first group approached by vehicle and then bombarded the compound with all their heavy weapons.
As soon as the second group on foot caught up, at a distance of four hundred meters, they immediately launched their attack.
The rifle grenades and rocket launchers were fired fiercely, but the effect was, to put it bluntly, poor.
The Consulate General’s building was constructed of large stone blocks, extremely sturdy, and even though the surrounding wall was built of brick, it was just as solid.
Now there were very few defending soldiers inside the Consulate General, but they were well prepared.
As soon as the South African troops withdrew, the Americans immediately heightened their alertness and were ready for battle at any moment.
Consequently, when Ivan and Uriyangko rushed over with a heavy arsenal, it hardly had any significant impact.
Samuel wielded an L6 grenade launcher, with six 40 mm high-explosive grenades at his disposal.
Nonetheless, at a distance of a hundred meters, direct shots couldn’t hit anyone, and as for lobbing shots, Samuel didn’t have the skill for high-angle firing, so after launching three grenades, he ceased fire.
The battle raged on the outside, but there was no response from within the Consulate General.
When the first wave had exhausted their heavy weapons, they reached the main gate.
The gates of the Consulate General were two wrought iron doors.
After firing the rocket launchers and then sprinting with their rifles, the men who ran were faster.
When Samuel was still more than twenty meters from the gate, four or five men had already reached it.
One brave soul ran straight toward the iron doors, attempting to push them open while firing through the gaps at the same time.
But he didn’t even reach the doors before he fell face first to the ground.
Two more approached the gate, and just like that, a couple of short bursts from within took them down as well.
The defenders inside the Consulate General had given up control of the outside.
They were waiting for close-quarter combat within the walls.
Samuel knew this very well, but there was no chance for anyone to slow down.
Aside from fierce firing and charging, there was no other mode of combat to choose from.
All experienced soldiers, they saw that the main gate was difficult to breach, but the wall was only about two meters high.
After shouting to each other, two men teamed up: one crouched down to extend a hand while the other took a running start and pushed off the wall, stepping on the outstretched hand, and with the help of the other soldier, climbed over the wall.
However, as soon as two men made it over the wall, another two short bursts, and one tumbled back outside the wall while the other plunged into the courtyard never to move again.
Anxiously watching, Samuel bellowed, “Shock grenades!
Throw a round of hand grenades first!”
Samuel made it to within less than twenty meters of the gate and raised his L6 launcher, aiming at the large lock on the gate and firing.
With a loud explosion, the lock was blasted away, and the impact wave forced the gates slightly ajar.
Samuel finished off his remaining two grenades inside the gates, then pulled two shock grenades from his combat vest.
After giving a hand signal, those who were still alive at the base of the wall threw their grenades over as well.
Waiting for the explosions inside the wall to merge into chaos, Samuel, with his rifle slung, charged towards the breach.
But as he reached the gate, his vision went dark and he collapsed.
Seeing Samuel and another fall at the gate, Sergei roared with rage, but aside from hurling a few hand grenades into the Consulate General, there was nothing else he could do.
The defenders inside were too accurate with their shots, while the attackers couldn’t locate the shooters.
The first wave of attackers was stuck outside the gate for not much longer than a minute, yet seven men had already fallen.
Sergei wanted to roar with fury, but fearing he might alert the people inside, he suppressed his anger and said in a low voice, “Blasters, blow open the wall!”
A soldier, carrying a device resembling a large hammer, placed it against the wall.
After waving at others to clear the area, he yanked hard on it and ran away.
Seconds later, an explosion sounded, and a section of the wall four or five meters long completely collapsed, creating an opening.
The breach was made, but the explosion had been too powerful—the men who had been waiting on either side to rush through were knocked down by the blast set off by their own side.
By the time those who were farther away approached the breach to charge in, the moment had passed.
With the defenders now on alert, a few bursts of gunfire took down all three who tried to rush through the gap.
The breach in the wall was for naught, causing Sergei to curse aloud.
Just then, the second wave of attackers finally arrived.
Li Jinfang and Eileen were among those running at the front.
Uriyangko was red-eyed, witnessing the hefty casualties of the first attacking group and their inability to penetrate the defenses.
He immediately roared, “Don’t wait, follow me and charge!”
Seeing the situation, Li Jinfang knew what had happened and loudly said, “Wait!
Satan, form a double triangle assault formation on both sides, with fire suppression in the middle, at five-meter intervals!
Fork!”
Rafael shouted back, “Understood!
A safe distance of one meter to the back!”
As Rafael spoke, he ran alongside the wall, then stuck the small block of C4 that he had prepared beforehand onto it.
A few steps later, he attached another piece, and then a third piece.
After attaching the third block, he immediately stepped aside, turning his back to the C4 at a distance of one meter.
As Rafael attached a block of C4, people immediately took positions on both sides, just like him, with their backs to the C4 and bodies pressing tightly against the wall; Li Jinfang and Eileen were on the far left, with Frey right behind Li Jinfang, Glolov, Tommy, and Cui Bo were in the middle, while Lucica and Rafael were on the far right.
Everyone hunched down and lowered their heads, protecting their exposed necks.
Rafael took a detonator in one hand and, after preparing his rifle, shouted, “3, 2, 1, charge!”
As the countdown ended, Rafael pressed the detonator, and an explosion, which wasn’t particularly loud, suddenly created three breaches in the wall.
The breaches weren’t big, and they were quite high, about one and a half meters off the ground, and just over a meter wide.
They weren’t convenient for an assault, but as suppressive fireports, they were perfect, providing both a clear line of fire and cover.
Rafael threw away the detonator and immediately turned to face the breach, aiming his gun and firing.
In tactics that involve breaching a wall by an explosion and then applying fire suppression or assault, speed is critical.
Any delay, and the breaches would be resealed by the defending force, rendering them meaningless.
Thus, control over the intensity and range of the explosion had to be precise to the extreme.
The work of the Russians was just too rough; they created breaches but caused casualties among their own men.
After losing the element of surprise in the attack, it served no purpose whatsoever.
Rafael’s work, however, was different.
He created the most suitable breach for attack, seizing the opportunity to fire first before the enemy could react.
In this battle of suppression and counter-suppression, firing before the enemy meant the difference between life and death.
Four automatic rifles, one machine gun, a sniper rifle, and Frey, the grenadier—Satan Mercenary Corps’ instantaneous suppressive firepower could completely press down the defending force, which was already outnumbered.
It was not about killing all the enemies instantly, but about suppressing them right away—that was enough!
Li Jinfang took down one with a single shot.
Although his second target took cover behind a barricade, he ensured that the enemy had no chance to return fire.
As Rafael was counting down, Frey had already released the handle of a grenade.
When he turned around and spotted a target, he immediately threw the grenade, which exploded mid-air above the heat source he had seen.
Glolov’s machine gun did not stop firing once it started.
With a thermal imaging night vision device, the enemy’s hiding spots were clearly visible.
Suppressing the enemy thoroughly while aiming for casualties was not a difficult task for Glolov.
After swiftly firing off a hundred-round ammo box, Tommy, stationed to his right, had already passed him a two hundred-round belt.
Not only did the belt contain more bullets, but it also allowed a more direct view of the ammunition left.
Tommy, the assistant gunner, was much stronger than Frey had been in the past.
With a few snaps, and no more than five seconds later, Glolov’s machine gun was firing again.
By that time, Tommy had already prepared a new belt of ammo, and the barrel was placed to the side.
As soon as they had suppressed the enemy, Glolov yelled, “Go!”
Uriyangko waved his hand and shouted, “Follow me and charge!”
The thirty or so men blocked outside the walls rushed in through the main gate and the breaches.
At this moment, almost no one inside the Consulate General could shoot at them, except for two individuals who attempted to counterattack from the entrance of the consulate building.
They had just shot a dozen bullets when the people who entered through the breaches from Sergei’s side threw a dozen grenades inside the door.
Uriyangko pointed at the building and roared, “You few, come with me; the rest of you, take out all the enemies outside!”
The group that charged in was quickly split into two.
One part headed for the consulate building, while the other moved towards the defending soldiers still pinned down in the yard, unable to raise their heads.
Once their own men reached the front of the defenders and blocked their line of fire, the suppressive fire from Li Jinfang and his team no longer had meaning.
Li Jinfang ceased firing, placed his hand on the wall, and leapt into the yard.
Glolov also stopped firing after having emptied a two hundred-round belt.
He grabbed the M3kws machine gun by the handle, and with a quick pull and release on the barrel’s jacket, the red-hot barrel hissed as it was ejected.
Tommy inserted a new barrel with a pull and push, loaded the new ammunition belt, and Glolov was ready to fire continuously once more.
Then he bellowed after Li Jinfang’s retreating figure, “Into the building!
We are going into the building!” (To be continued.
