689: Chapter 681 Quick!

Quick!

Quick!

After Gao Yang called out a few times in a not-so-loud voice, gasping for breath, the room where only the immobilized Ivan and the attack-abstaining Ryan and Medusa remained abruptly fell silent.

Then, Ivan grabbed the walkie-talkie from the table and bellowed madly, “He made it!

He made it!”

Glolov, cradling the machine gun, was running with all his might, while Tommy, holding a hundred-round drum magazine in one hand, followed at his side, evidently unable to keep up with the younger and faster Lee Jinfang and the others.

Upon hearing Ivan’s roar through the earpiece, Glolov immediately quickened his pace, bellowing, “He made it!

Hurry, hurry!”

Holding his rifle and dashing with all his might, Jinfang heard the voice from the earpiece and roared, “Damn it!

Hurry!

Keep formation, fast!

Fast!

Fast!”

Eileen let out a piercing scream, running even faster as if injected with adrenaline.

Glolov’s group hadn’t followed Gao Yang’s orders, yet they still couldn’t initiate the attack first because they were on foot, while those charging in cars inevitably moved faster.

Sergei, Samuel, Brejinsky, Ivan’s bodyguards were all in the cars, leading the charge, and they were about to exchange fire with the defenders of the Consulate General.

Upon hearing Ivan’s roar through the earpiece, Samuel bellowed, “He made it!

Hurry!

Hurry!”

Sergei didn’t wait for the car to stop; he jumped out of the slowing vehicle and raised his machine gun, starting to fire at the gates of the Consulate General.

There were barricades at the Consulate General’s entrance preventing cars from getting too close; everyone had to get out of their cars one hundred meters from the gates.

When six cars came screeching to a halt, people jumped out from both sides of each vehicle.

After Samuel leaped out of the car, without even seeing anyone, he fired his RPG directly at the Consulate General, then grabbed an L640 millimeter caliber grenade launcher from the car, swung his left hand toward the Consulate General, and bellowed, “Quick!

Quick!

Quick!”

The first wave of the assault consisted mainly of rocket launchers and grenade launchers; firearms were futile at that moment.

The strategy was to hit the Consulate General with the heaviest firepower available to individual soldiers.

The goal was to suppress the inside defenders and then rush in, which was the only tactic.

The CIA Special Activities Division, codenamed “Poster,” was still too understaffed, with ten members outside and ten guarding the first floor.

After the South African troops had withdrawn, they reassigned more personnel to the courtyard.

After Gao Yang took down two men trying to rush the corridor, it momentarily became quiet.

But then he saw two dark objects flying out from the stairwell.

Gao Yang closed his eyes and ducked his head, placing it behind the body serving as a cover.

Then, he heard two deafening explosions.

Even though his eyes were closed and his head was lowered, Gao still saw a flash before his eyes, and the intense noise left a buzzing in both of his ears.

His left ear, already deafened by a pistol shot near it, now heard nothing at all after the two shock grenades were thrown.

Fortunately, though completely deafened, Gao avoided the direct impact of the sound waves by hiding behind the body, and he did not feel dizzy.

Gao lifted his head to see someone expose half of their body; he raised his hand and fired a burst of bullets.

The bullets didn’t hit the rushing figure, but they succeeded in forcing the enemy to retreat.

Gao Yang found that he could no longer hear anything, but he immediately saw several grenades thrown towards him.

Ducking again, Gao Yang felt a blast sweep over his back.

Fortunately, his position was somewhat far from the stairwell entrance, and he was leaning obliquely behind a door, so the grenades that bounced off the wall couldn’t cause him direct harm.

Gao Yang looked up, the lights in the corridor had all gone out, but the room he was in still had light.

With the bright light seeping from the doorway, he could still see a few things.

Gao Yang saw two more people in the corridor; one of them had just raised his hand, likely having just tossed a grenade at him, while the other was shooting at him.

Gao Yang fired a sweeping burst, knocking both men to the ground.

However, he was unable to aim precisely this time; although he knocked them both down, one of them immediately extended a gun barrel towards him as he fell.

Gao Yang didn’t have time to fire a follow-up shot; he shrunk back behind the cover just as another blast passed, but he heard nothing.

After waiting for the grenades to explode, Gao Yang peeked out and swiftly fired a shot at the top of the head of the man on the ground who was still shooting.

Once he confirmed he hit the target and the enemy stopped firing, Gao Yang had already run out of bullets.

Gao Yang’s mind went blank.

He removed the empty magazine and replaced it with a new one, then shouted loudly,

“Hurry up!

Move it!

Or you’ll just be collecting corpses!

I can’t hear a damn thing.”

Gao Yang couldn’t hear what he was saying, nor did he know exactly what he had said.

All he knew was he had to keep going; any lapse in vigilance could give someone the chance to take aim and shoot him, and then it would be all over.

Gao Yang was completely deaf to the explosions that had begun outside.

He was unaware of the stage the attack had reached or how much longer he had to wait.

Finally, two more grenades were lobbed in.

Because the corridor was already rather dark, Gao Yang only noticed when they were very close.

Gao Yang immediately got down but held his gun over his head and fired short bursts at the place he aimed, hoping to stop the enemy’s approach.

After a brief moment, not feeling the expected shock wave from the blast, Gao Yang raised his head only to discover a thick red smoke beginning to fill the corridor.

There was a loud explosion in Gao Yang’s mind as if something had burst.

The enemy had thrown smoke grenades, and this was bad news for him.

The smoke grenade was just four or five meters in front of Gao Yang, but the smoke quickly filled the entire corridor.

Gao Yang could no longer see anything, and he knew that as long as the enemy was even minimally well-equipped, they would certainly have night vision devices, especially thermal imaging night vision.

For Gao Yang, superior gunmanship was his only reliance.

He had no grenades, no bulletproof vests, and besides stopping the enemy with extremely precise shooting from a submachine gun, he had no means to prevent their approach.

But now, he had become completely blind.

Without sight, superior gunmanship was nonsense.

What was worse, Gao Yang had not only become blind, but he had also become deaf.
