Mercenary’s War
Chapter 526 - 526 Five Hundred and Twenty-Two Brothers in Peril

526: Chapter Five Hundred and Twenty-Two: Brothers in Peril 526: Chapter Five Hundred and Twenty-Two: Brothers in Peril Cui Bo withdrew, and Glolov along with several others immediately fell back a bit and established a semicircular defensive position to prevent the enemy from coming down the cliff.

Cui Bo had dragged the enemy to the cliff edge, buying precious time for those in the camp; if the enemy had been allowed to descend and scatter into the jungle to sneak into camp, the trouble would have been much greater.

After Cui Bo withdrew, he transitioned into defense on the spot with Glolov and the others, while Gao Yang approached the marksman of the Angel Mercenary Corps and said, “Prince, why did you come over?”

Having been together for half a month, Gao Yang had already become familiar with the two severely wounded members of the Angel Mercenary Corps.

Arriving, the person’s nickname, not knowing how it came about, was called Prince, the real name being Eric Ernst August, the full-time marksman of the Angel Mercenary Corps, a former member of the 9th Squadron of the German Border Guard, who could also double as an assault trooper.

Eric was over one hundred eighty centimeters tall and weighed about ninety kilograms—his build was not particularly large.

Normally very quiet and reserved, he spoke very little, spending all day lying in bed, staring at the floor with open eyes, silent and seemingly deep in thought.

Eric was quite unlucky with where he was injured.

During an aerial bombardment, his left buttock was pierced right through by a flying tree branch, narrowly missing his sciatic nerve which could have affected his ability to walk in the future.

Additionally, his left flank was also penetrated by a branch, resulting in a deep wound.

It was only in the past two days that he had barely managed to get out of bed and shuffle a few steps, yet somehow he had run over by himself to join the battle.

With a furrowed brow, Eric gave Gao Yang a thumbs up and said, “Good shooting, impressive.”

Gao Yang knew that Eric was a marksman but had no idea of his level.

Today, he got to witness it—Eric was highly skilled.

After hearing Eric’s praise, Gao Yang smiled and replied, “Not bad, you’re pretty good too.”

Eric shook his head and said, “Not as good as you.

I missed twice and had to take two extra shots; you didn’t have to make any follow-up shots.”

After a brief silence, Eric said in a deep voice, “I heard you’re a very skilled marksman, and I wanted to see if you were as legendary as they say.

Now I’ve found out, you really are impressive.”

Gao Yang didn’t know what to say next.

After smiling, he pointed to Eric’s waist and asked, “How did you come over, is your injury okay?”

Eric nodded with a pained expression, “There’s a problem, I rushed over too quickly.

Now my waist and buttocks hurt terribly.

Also, I snuck over here, so please don’t let Test Tube or Andy He know.

In front of the doctor, it’s best not to anger them as a patient.”

Gao Yang replied with a wry smile, “I think it’s better to tell them, to have them check you out.”

Sighing, Eric said, “I think I’m about to get scolded.

That beauty will definitely scold me.

I once hoped that if I got injured, there would be a beautiful nurse to take care of me, but I never imagined meeting a beautiful nurse in the jungles of Colombia.

However, you know, beauties tend to have quite a temper.”

After shaking his head helplessly, Eric made a gesture and said, “Sorry, you have to stay here, but could you arrange for someone to take me back?

My wound is very painful, and I probably shouldn’t continue walking.”

“Buddy, I thought you didn’t know pain?

Turns out you do know it, huh?”

Someone suddenly spoke up from behind Gao Yang and Eric, with a tone that was less than friendly.

Gao Yang and Eric turned their heads to see that it was Simon Jonas.

Simon Jonas was Eric’s brother-in-arms, another casualty from the Angel Mercenary Corps.

Known by the nickname Flying Squirrel, Simon Jonas was also from the 9th Squadron of the German Border Guard, like Eric, and they were true comrades.

They had joined the 9th Squadron of the German Border Guard in the same batch, retired at the same time, and later joined the Angel Mercenary Corps together.

Now, they were both wounded and had followed Gao Yang to the temporary camp.

Simon Jonas’s relationship with Eric was as solid as it could possibly be.

Saying they were friends who had been through life and death together wouldn’t be an exaggeration.

Unlike the usually somber Eric, Simon Jonas had a very lively personality.

Simon Jonas had once been in the same combat team as Eric, only he was the assault man, especially adept at urban indoor combat and rapid tactical advances through flanking maneuvers.

His nickname, Flying Squirrel, was due to his incredible jumping ability, leaping far and high, just like a flying squirrel, and his tactical movements were extremely standard and exemplary.

Seeing Eric’s helpless expression, Simon Jonas slung his G36 assault rifle over his shoulder, pushed it back, and asked Ram, “What’s the situation now?

Do you need us?”

Gao Yang shook his head and said, “Prince has already been a great help, but the situation is under control now, we don’t need your help.

You two should head back quickly and get ready to evacuate.

Oh, you two are in trouble though, Test Tube has arrived.”

Eric and Simon Jonas looked back and lamented in unison, “Now we’re doomed.”

“Damn it, I told you to stay in bed.

Why are you here?

Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”

Bruce was furious.

After Eric let out a small cough, he spoke softly, “Sorry, I was going to inform you, but you and Andy He were busy with Ivan’s transfer, and I didn’t speak up.

The situation was extremely critical just now, and we urgently needed a marksman.

Even though I can’t move yet, there was no choice; you know how it is in battle, no matter how severe the injury, one has to step up.”

Gao Yang found that Eric seemed honest but was actually quite crafty and bold-faced with his lies.

Medical officers are always respected because once someone gets injured, their lives are in the medics’ hands.

However, medical officers tend to be bad-tempered when saving lives, and even though this wasn’t an emergency, their tempers were still short with patients who didn’t follow medical advice.

Bruce looked puzzled at Gao Yang and asked, “Boss, is what he’s saying true?

I didn’t hear you ask for the wounded to come help on the earpiece just now?”

Without any hesitation, Gao Yang replied, “He’s lying.

I didn’t ask for any wounded to come help.

Although Prince did help a lot, he’s lying.

He came here on his own.”

Bruce always treated Gao Yang with utmost respect, but when it came to saving lives, he would yell and scold as needed, without the slightest hint of subordination.

If that was how he treated Gao Yang, his approach to Eric and Simon Jonas needed no mention.

After hearing Gao Yang’s words, Bruce glared at Eric and said in a lowered voice, “You’re dead, you bastard, you’re absolutely dead!

Now go back, and if your wound bursts open and needs stitching, you’re really dead.

And you, Flying Squirrel, I hope you’re not as unlucky as Prince.”
