Mercenary’s War
Chapter 472 - 472 Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Armored Vehicle

472: Chapter Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine: Armored Vehicle 472: Chapter Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine: Armored Vehicle A grenade was thrown into the clinic and exploded in the rear-right position.

Gao Yang was flipped over by the blast wave, and for a moment, he couldn’t hear anything but a ringing in his ears; his mind was in a daze.

When he hit the ground, his left shoulder wound was severely impacted, and the intense pain quickly brought him back to clarity.

Sitting up with one hand on the ground, he shook his head in confusion and started to shout hoarsely, yet although he knew he was yelling and what he was supposed to yell, he couldn’t hear any sound that he made.

The world suddenly became quiet, causing a sense of panic in Gao Yang.

Twisting his head, he looked around.

The grenade’s shockwave had thinned the smoke a bit, and he could see Tommy struggling to get up on his left, while on his rear-right was one of Brejinsky’s men, convulsing non-stop on the ground.

Gao Yang pushed Tommy, who was beside him, only to see Tommy crouch and kneel on the ground after crawling up.

Gao Yang glanced outside and saw Jinfang still guarding the doorway, his gun continuously ejecting shell casings, while Glolov squatted in front of him, his face with the gas mask constantly swaying.

Unable to hear anything and unable to see any expression on Glolov’s face other than through a pair of eyes, Gao Yang pointed at his own ears and then shook his hand vigorously.

Just then, Gao Yang felt hands frantically searching over his body.

Turning his head, he saw Bruce had run out and was now checking him with hands covered in fresh blood.

After a few touches, Bruce gave Gao Yang a thumbs up.

He immediately moved to the kneeling Tommy, and after a quick check, Bruce also gave him a thumbs up to signal that Tommy also had no serious issues.

Finally, after checking the Russian man lying on the ground, Bruce immediately shook his head and gestured to Glolov to help him get the man into the operating room.

The grenade thrown into the clinic was an offensive type, and it had been thrown towards the back, which was the only thing Gao Yang felt glad about.

Offensive grenades have more explosive charge and a thinner shell, relying on the blast wave rather than shrapnel for destruction.

They allow attackers to continue advancing after throwing the grenade without having to take cover or protective measures.

Offensive grenades are not very powerful in open areas, but are well-suited for attacking small spaces such as buildings during offensive operations.

Unluckily, Gao Yang and his comrades were caught in a small space with an offensive grenade.

Fortunate was the grenade’s explosion location being relatively to the rear, and one of Brejinsky’s men by Gao Yang’s side had blocked most of the shock wave and shrapnel, flipping Gao Yang over but not causing substantial harm.

Had it been a defensive grenade, Gao Yang would likely have had dozens of holes in his body by now.

Gao Yang felt nauseous, but seeing that some of his comrades by the door less affected by the shock wave were still firing fiercely outside, and after the grenade was thrown, he knew that the police attack had not been repelled.

Suppressing the urge to vomit, Gao Yang staggered to his feet.

However, he quickly realized there wasn’t much he could do to help; Jinfang had stopped firing and was making a cease-fire gesture.

By now, Gao Yang had started to hear some sounds, as his hearing recovered quickly, thanks primarily to the full-seal military-grade gas mask he was wearing on his head.

The gas mask Andy He had prepared was of a high grade, a full-seal military gas mask.

Once Gao Yang put on the mask, his entire head was wrapped in a silicon rubber hood, which not only protected against the effects of toxic gas but also preserved Gao Yang’s eardrums amidst the intense shockwaves.

Although the incredibly loud explosions had caused Gao Yang to temporarily lose his hearing, his eardrums weren’t damaged, which was vital.

Otherwise, he would have had to spend a long time as a deaf person.

But now, his hearing was rapidly recovering, at least to the point where he could hear himself shouting out loud.

“Count the grenades!”

The battle hadn’t lasted long, but the grenades were running low.

After a quick count, Gao Yang discovered there were only eighteen grenades left.

Eighteen grenades weren’t a lot, but they should just about suffice to fend off one attack.

Gao Yang shouted, “Conserve the grenades.

Pay attention to where you throw them, and don’t waste them.”

After shouting out the orders, Gao Yang picked up another grenade, ready to face the upcoming assault.

But after waiting for several minutes, there was still no movement.

Using tear gas and smoke grenades to lead an assault was a common police tactic.

Without gas masks, just the tear gas would be enough for Gao Yang and his team to handle, but with the gas masks, after the police threw a large number of tear gas and smoke grenades, Gao Yang and his team actually gained an advantage, catching the police off guard.

Smoke affected both the attacking and defending sides greatly.

If one side had gas masks and the other did not, the tear gas would show its effectiveness.

However, if both sides had gas masks, the smoke would only obscure vision, which was more beneficial for the defenders.

Thus, realizing that Gao Yang and his team were equipped with gas masks, the police temporarily halted their attack.

Smoke grenades and tear gas canisters couldn’t keep producing smoke forever.

After a few minutes, the tear gas stopped emitting smoke.

Then a few minutes later, the smoke grenades also stopped, and the smoke that shrouded the entrance of the clinic began to gradually disperse.

When the smoke cleared, Gao Yang saw that aside from large puddles of blood, there were no bodies or wounded at the clinic’s entrance.

As the smoke cleared, it was also time for the police to launch another attack.

When the smoke had almost dispersed and visibility was hardly affected, as expected, the police launched another assault.

This time, the police changed their approach.

They advanced slowly behind ballistic shields before stopping and spreading out on both sides of the street.

Then, they began to move the cars blocking the road.

Li Jinfang poked his head out for a brief look and quickly pulled back.

Just as he retracted his head, a bullet grazed the door frame and hit the ground.

“Watch out for the sniper!”

After yelling out the caution, Li Jinfang said with a tense face, “They’ve moved the cars that were blocking the street.

I reckon they’re getting ready to bring in an armored vehicle.”

Gao Yang checked his watch; only fifteen minutes had passed.

If they were to wait for Angel Mercenary Corps to come to their rescue, they still needed to hold out for a significantly longer period.

However, if the police directly brought in an armored vehicle to attack, whether they could hold out for even a minute was in question.
