471: Chapter 468: Throwing Thunder, Frenzied Thunder Throwing.

The explosions of two grenades brought the two advancing SWAT teams to a halt; they seemed unprepared for an all-out assault, at least they weren’t mentally ready for it.

It’s easy to understand when you think about it.

The negotiators had already been deployed, and the mission had shifted to a hostage rescue operation.

Whether it was the standard police or the SWAT, defensive preparations were definitely in place.

Taking advantage of the time the negotiators were discussing terms, everything that needed to be arranged was set up; snipers were positioned, and based on the negotiators’ observations, they chose possible routes of attack and how to select equipment, among other things.

In short, if an assault was needed, it wouldn’t be launched blindly.

Everything was proceeding smoothly, until a sudden order from above changed the phase from defense and preparation directly to offense.

In such a short time, it was hard to say if the snipers were even deployed properly; after all, finding a sniper position is about more than just setting up anywhere – it’s about finding a spot with full control and no blind spots.

Of course, it’s a basic requirement for SWAT teams of any country to be prepared to execute all orders, to be impenetrable in defense, and to be ready to attack immediately if commanded.

However, it’s one thing to have such expectations and another to actually meet them.

The order to attack was somewhat sudden, so when they met resistance from rifles and two grenades, the joint assault by a total of four five-man squads came to an immediate halt.

After halting the advance of the attacking teams, Brejinsky bellowed with all his might, “We are from the FAEC Gogewute Aoduluo Front, whoever isn’t afraid of dying, come on!

Everyone here, listen up and take good care of your families, you bastards.”

Brejinsky’s shout seemed to have a greater effect than bullets and grenades.

Following his roar, the attacking teams hesitated significantly.

When they should have been making quick decisions about whether to continue the assault or retreat, they seemed caught in a dilemma.

Gao Yang curiously asked Brejinsky, “What did you just shout about?”

With a resigned smile, Brejinsky replied, “Just scaring them a bit, claiming we’re under the drug lord’s command.

It makes them think twice about attacking.

Look, it’s working pretty well.”

The acronym SWAT stands for Special Weapons And Tactics.

Originally, it wasn’t the official name of any specific military unit, but the term has essentially become the collective name for all special law enforcement units belonging to the police worldwide that are distinct from regular police officers and use special tactical methods.

Teams with a SWAT designation vary in combat effectiveness; some are extremely formidable, while others merely carry the SWAT title.

The capabilities of the Bogota Police Department’s SWAT team that Gao Yang and his group faced were harder to determine.

The Colombian special forces and SWAT are strictly considered to be very powerful; they have rich combat experience from decades of fighting against guerillas and drug traffickers.

Although there have been wins and losses, they are definitely a powerful force.

The special forces’ jungle warfare capabilities are particularly noteworthy.

However, it’s somewhat peculiar that retired members of the Colombian special forces and police SWAT seem to perform better after retirement than before.

Mexico and Colombia share a commonality: both countries are plagued by drug proliferation, and the armies and police forces of both nations also have something in common, which is that their well-equipped and well-trained special forces often fail in firefights against drug lords.

The reason for these failures is simple: drug lords are wealthy and have excellent equipment, and their armed members often come from the special forces themselves.

Once Colombian special forces members retire, they find a well-paying job waiting for them – working for a drug lord.

Selling themselves to the drug lords means earning money without worrying about their families being retaliated against by the police after their death.

Soldiers and police officers, however, have it rough; they earn limited money fighting for the country, and if something goes wrong, drug lords might take revenge on their families.

As a result, during their service, they do the bare minimum.

Once retired, becoming full of life and normalcy is not surprising.

When fighting against drug traffickers, how they wage the battle is something every soldier or police officer weighs carefully.

After all, they might be facing their future employers, and being a national hero for their bravery means living in constant fear for their own and their family’s safety.

Therefore, Brejinsky’s words definitely had a deterrent effect, arguably stronger than bullets.

Being a policeman in countries like Colombia and Mexico is truly tragic; they either collude with drug lords, or live in constant fear.

In any other country, a police SWAT team would teach Gao Yang and his group a lesson in humility within minutes, but in Colombia, Gao Yang could quietly rejoice that he was indeed in Colombia.

Brejinsky quickly peered out, and when he pulled back, a smile spread across his face.

“They’ve pulled back.

I reckon at least five minutes will pass before they launch another attack.

Mentioning Teodulo’s name does indeed have a significant deterrent effect on them.”

Gao Yang replied with a wry smile, “Teodulo is already dead; I think his name doesn’t have much deterrent power anymore.”

Brejinsky said, “I wasn’t always in Colombia, so that’s about all I know of the guy.

Maybe they don’t realize Teodulo is dead.”

Just then, Ava emerged from the operating room.

Seeing Ava, Gao Yang didn’t bother to chat with Brejinsky any longer and immediately asked her, “How is it going?”

Ava, still looking hurried, replied, “The surgery hasn’t been completed.

Andy He asked me to find out if you’ve engaged with the police.

If so, he’s prepared gas masks and bulletproof vests for you to borrow.”

Gao Yang’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, and he nodded vigorously like a pecking chicken, “Yes, yes!

Fantastic, how come you have this kind of equipment?”

Ava glanced at Gao Yang and said, “The patients we treat here are either drug traffickers or gang members, it would be odd not to have such preparations.

Alright, follow me.”

Ava turned and walked away after speaking.

Gao Yang waved his hand and said, “Rabbit, Big Dog, come with me to get the stuff.”

Ava arrived at the door of a room, took out a key and opened it, then went inside first.

The room was pitch-dark.

Ava casually turned on the light, and it was visible that the room wasn’t big, but one of the cabinets was filled with gas masks.

There was also a rifle and a pistol, and quite a few hand grenades—Gao Yang saw at least four small boxes, amounting to no less than forty pieces.

However, there were only four sets of bulletproof vests and helmets hanging on a clothes rack.

After Ava put on a rebound vest and a helmet, she reached for another set and said, “Aside from that FAMAS Rifle and Beretta M92 pistol, you guys can use all the other stuff however you like, since we have to leave this place anyway.”

Gao Yang didn’t waste any more words.

Unable to move one arm, he brandished his pistol and ordered, “Grab it quickly, take all the grenades, and yeah, grab the gas masks too.”

Cui Bo casually picked up a helmet and fastened it onto Gao Yang’s head, while Glolov was about to pull a bulletproof vest over Gao Yang when he remembered and protested, jumping on the spot, “F**k, stop fussing over me.

Grab the gear.

The vests are for the assaulters!”

After hurrying the two men to carry a pile of stuff, Gao Yang ran out quickly and shouted, “There’s a lot of gear, have two more people come grab stuff.

Toad, Bear, you two put on bulletproof vests.”

As assaulters, Jinfang and Brejinsky were undoubtedly the strongest.

Gao meant for them to wear bulletproof vests to act as the spearhead in this crucial breakout moment.

After everything was taken out, and everyone was busy equipping hand grenades with fuses, Jinfang, who should have been wearing a bulletproof vest, picked it up but instead of following Gao’s order, started to fit it onto Gao.

“You’re injured and your movement is hindered, you won’t even be able to dodge.

You wear it.”

While Jinfang was speaking, Brejinsky pressed down on Jinfang’s hand and, with a stern face, said, “You’re in this mess because of Ivan, so forget the talk.

I won’t wear a bulletproof vest, Ram.

Don’t waste time.”

Just then, Tommy, who was on lookout at the door, yelled out loud, “The cops have moved again, this time, no good, it’s CS, tear gas!

Masks, put on your gas masks quickly!”

There was no time for further discussion.

Tommy and the other lookout stretched their guns out and began to sweep fire.

Jinfang quickly donned the bulletproof vest, strapped on a gas mask, and after placing a helmet on his head, he immediately ran to Tommy’s position, pushed Tommy aside, and began shooting outside.

In just a few seconds, at least a dozen tear gas canisters landed at the clinic’s entrance, along with at least a dozen red smoke bombs.

The tear gas was thrown at the entrance of the clinic; because it was an open area, those inside the clinic weren’t immediately affected.

After quickly putting on gas masks, the tear gas became even less effective.

However, under the combined effect of the tear gas canisters and smoke bombs, looking out from the clinic, the view was completely obscured, making precise shooting utterly impossible.

Gao Yang, with one hand that was less than convenient for anything, was quickly fitted with a bulletproof vest and a mask by Cui Bo and Glolov, while Brejinsky, after donning a mask, grabbed a box of hand grenades and rushed to the entrance.

After briefly listening at the door, Brejinsky started to throw hand grenades outside frantically, emptying a box of ten in no time.

Soon, everyone in the clinic had their gas masks on.

By then, smoke had started to seep into the clinic.

Gao Yang immediately shouted, “Rabbit, Big Dog, go and close all the doors, don’t let the smoke get into the operating room.

Don’t forget to bring masks to Frey and the others, move it!”

After speaking, Gao Yang immediately ran to a position just inside the clinic’s entrance.

Poor visibility justified the use of hand grenades—a no-brainer.

He passed the pistol to his less capable but still grip-able left hand, and Gao Yang immediately picked up a hand grenade, bit the pin with his mouth, and lifted the grenade.

Hearing the rush of footsteps getting closer, Gao Yang threw the hand grenade in the direction of the noise, but at the same time, two tear gas canisters were thrown into the clinic.

With explosions and screams sounding from outside, and the gunfire both inside and outside the clinic merging into one, Gao Yang grabbed hand grenades and threw them out as fast as he could.

In an instant, the clinic was filled with white smoke from the tear gas, and red smoke drifted all around outside.

The clinic was shrouded in red and white smoke; although it wasn’t to the point of being completely blind, visibility was indeed greatly affected.

Gao Yang wasn’t worried about smoke bombs and tear gas canisters thrown into the clinic thanks to the gas masks, but if fragmentation grenades were tossed in, it would be a disaster.

Hearing the gunfire reach the entrance, without time to think, Gao Yang bellowed, “Throw the hand grenades, don’t hold back now!”

Everyone was experienced and didn’t need Gao Yang’s shouts to know that the priority was to repel the enemy—they had to be driven back.

Apart from the unceasing gunfire of Jinfang and Brejinsky, the rest chose to throw hand grenades rather than firing into the smoke.

At least a dozen hand grenades flew out simultaneously, followed by a burst of intense explosions.

The gunfire outside the clinic suddenly stopped.

But almost at the same time, Gao Yang was pushed forward and knocked to the ground by a blast wave, and all he heard was a deafening boom before losing all hearing.
