307: Chapter Three Hundred and Five Run, Let You Run.

Having leaped down from the big tree, Gao Yang started running in circles toward the truck.

Since he couldn’t hit them from the front, he decided to move to the side.

Although it would get dangerous as he got closer, Gao Yang’s mind was filled only with thoughts of vengeance.

Holding the upper hand, he had no time to think about anything else, focusing solely on the specifics of his revenge.

Taking a wide detour, Gao Yang moved quickly and didn’t waste much time.

After making sure there was no one near the rear of the truck, he pondered the possibility of an ambush by the poachers.

Gao Yang felt that the poachers probably lacked any real combat skills and the chances of them lying in wait to counter-ambush were slim, so he started running toward the truck in a zigzag pattern.

He didn’t see anyone all the way there.

Either the poachers had run off, using the truck for cover, or they were hiding in the bushes.

When he was less than a hundred meters from the truck, he still saw no one, nor did he hear any shots fired.

After slinging the rifle over his shoulder and taking the double-barreled shotgun in his hands, Gao Yang quickly ran to the other side of the truck, but still, no one was to be seen.

Seeing no one on either side of the truck, Gao Yang simply climbed over into the truck bed.

The truck was apparently used to transport game, as there were two plastic Oil Barrels in the bed, but nothing else.

The bed was soaked with blood and dried bloodstains emitted a rancid, fishy smell, but Gao Yang ignored it and crawled to the rear end of the truck bed, then quickly popped his head out to have a look.

With the height advantage, Gao Yang finally saw five people running at top speed ahead; they must have been six or seven hundred meters away from him.

Gao Yang felt he had been too cautious, but he didn’t dwell on his frustration.

He quickly grabbed the shotgun from his back, took aim at a sprinting silhouette, and fired a shot.

Given the long distance, and the unfamiliarity with the shotgun and scope, it was a rapidly moving target; Gao Yang missed with his first shot.

He calmed his mind, fired again, but still hit no one.

While zeroing the scope, Gao Yang realized he had wasted too many bullets.

Along with the three missed shots, he was left with only three bullets, yet there were still five fleeing poachers.

Gao Yang made a decisive choice; he couldn’t waste anymore bullets.

What he needed to do now was to chase them down and get closer to shoot.

After jumping down from the truck, Gao Yang quickly checked the poachers he had killed.

Close to the truck, there were six or seven AK47s and even a FAL, but the scoped rifle was nowhere to be found.

Gao Yang hastily threw all the AK47s into the truck bed.

Even though the poachers’ AK rifles were battered, the real problem was that almost each gun came with just one magazine, and most corpses were only carrying a few loose bullets.

Gao Yang inspected the body holding the FAL rifle particularly closely and luckily found a magazine, which still had bullets inside.

But on further searching, there weren’t any spare bullets to be found.

After tossing the collected guns and bullets into the truck bed, Gao Yang jumped into the driver’s seat.

Wearing a sly grin, he pulled out the key he had taken and started the truck.

He grabbed a rag tossed onto the seat and wiped the blood and brains off the windshield as he turned the steering wheel hard to corner.

Then he charged toward the five fleeing men.

Gao Yang wasted about two or three minutes picking up the gun; by then, the five remaining poachers had gotten even farther away.

However, confident in the power of wheels over legs, Gao Yang pursued them without doubt.

After starting the car, he sped off in the direction the poachers had fled, taking care not to forget to wipe the windshield cleaner.

Within a couple of minutes, he spotted the figures of the five poachers again.

Seeing that the five men hadn’t thought to split up even now, Gao Yang couldn’t help but feel a sense of superiority in intelligence.

He shifted gears and stepped on the gas.

In their frantic escape, the poachers couldn’t hear anything following them, especially since the noise of a truck, while loud, wasn’t loud enough to be heard from hundreds of meters away.

It wasn’t until Gao Yang closed the gap to about three hundred meters behind them that one of the already exhausted poachers looked back and realized that a truck had been bearing down on them unnoticed.

After a cry of alarm, two of the poachers immediately dropped to the ground and started shooting at the truck, while the other three sped up their escape.

Then, seemingly coming to their senses, they finally began to split up and scatter in different directions.

Gao Yang hit the brakes and came to a stop.

Then, dragging the hunting rifle to his side, he pinned the opened car door under one foot, and the car seat under another, adopting an awkward position.

After propping himself on top of the vehicle, he aimed downward at one of the men shooting at him from the ground, and with one shot, the motionless poacher was dead where he lay.

He reloaded and aimed at another poacher who had dropped to the ground but was now attempting to continue running.

Just as he managed to stand up, Gao Yang fired another shot, sending him back to the ground.

Now with only one bullet left, and the three fleeing men heading in three different directions, Gao Yang evaluated his options.

He chose the one who had run farthest yet crucially was running in a straight line with his back to him.

Gao Yang was uncertain about hitting a moving target from the side, but a straight runner was an easy catch.

After firing his last bullet, Gao Yang leaped back into the truck, tossed the rifle onto the seat, and grabbing the FAL rifle, he put the truck in gear and chased after the poacher who had run to his left.

The chase lasted less than two minutes.

When he closed the distance to just over two hundred meters, the pursued poacher lost all hope.

He stopped, turned, and charged toward Gao Yang, firing his gun repeatedly.

Gao Yang jerked the steering wheel and hit the brakes.

Then, with the FAL in hand, he jumped out of the truck, peered out from behind the hood, and upon spotting the desperate poacher, raised his gun and fired three shots, finally bringing the man down to the ground.

Time was short and the mission was critical.

Adhering to the principle that not a single one should get away, Gao Yang didn’t have time to check whether the fallen poacher was dead or not, but he was quite confident the man had been hit.

So, he immediately jumped back into the truck,

shifted gears, made a turn, and resumed the pursuit.

He remembered the direction the last person had fled, but despite driving for several minutes and feeling he should have found the poacher by now, he saw no one.

Fearing he might have overtaken his target, Gao Yang immediately stopped the truck, surveyed his surroundings, and finding no trace of anyone, he then grabbed the binoculars and jumped out of the vehicle.

“Run, I want to see where you can run to.

I refuse to believe I can’t catch up to you.”

A cornered rabbit might bite; although he was gaining the upper hand, Gao Yang couldn’t afford to be careless.

Now, unsure of the last man’s whereabouts, it would be too unjust to be killed by a surprise shot.

So, while muttering to himself, he first lay flat on the ground, then began his careful search.
