Chapter 1418: Chapter One thousand three hundred ninety-nine Occasionally Do Good Deeds

Shava survived; his injuries were quite serious but not critically so. They were the kind that wouldn’t be lethal with timely treatment. Moreover, he got shot close to the hospital, but the problem was the hospital he was sent to was inadequate, and the surgeons were substandard. What should’ve been handled by a competent surgeon ended up needing Andy He and Albert to sort out in the end.

Shava’s life was saved, but danger still lurked, not from his injuries but because he was caught up in a whirlpool he never should have touched.

In a small, shabby room, Shava lay in bed receiving an IV drip. Despite the thick bandages wrapped around his neck, Shava’s eyes were bright and shrewd.

Fixing his gaze on Gao Yang, Shava waved his left hand. Andy He frowned and yelled, “Don’t move, did I tell you to move?”

Alyosha lightly coughed and, unable to resist, said to Gao Yang, “Last night you guys took out Mogilevich, even flattened his house. Peter, I, I…”

Alyosha was visibly excited yet couldn’t find the words, while Gao Yang smiled and asked, “What do you want to say?”

Alyosha slapped his thigh and shouted loudly, “You guys are amazing, truly amazing! But people think it was the White Shark Gang who took Mogilevich down. Now, nobody in Kiev dares to mess with us. I got a ton of calls this morning, from both small gangs and big bosses, wanting to know what happened and to cozy up to us. I don’t even know how to handle it all.”

Gao Yang shrugged apologetically and replied helplessly, “This isn’t necessarily a good thing, because you’ve been drawn into a very dangerous war.”

Alyosha laughed and said, “Mogilevich already made a move against us; Shava’s already ended up like this. What are we waiting for if not to fight back? We’re not afraid, and since we have to fight, it’s best to scare everyone stiff.”

Gao Yang shook his head and said, “No, Mogilevich is dead, but there might be more complicated reasons for his attack on Shava. If we’re not mistaken, Mogilevich was working for an arms kingpin. Now that Mogilevich is dead, someone even more formidable might emerge.”

Alyosha looked at Shava, who firmly waved his left hand, and Alyosha chuckled lightly, saying, “That’s no big deal. We’re already in this, so let’s fight.”

Gao Yang was very satisfied with Shava and the others’ attitudes; once you’re in the gang, you have to be prepared to take hits. Whether you’re willing or not, you must choose a side. Trying to please both sides will only lead to a quicker death.

Nodding, Gao Yang asked in a deep voice, “How’s the situation during the day? Have there been any more attacks?”

Alyosha shook his head and replied in a somber tone, “No, now the situation has reversed. We’re attacking Mogilevich’s old turf and assets. We fought twice this morning, and the results were good; we lost one person, but the opposition lost about three or four. We got what we wanted, though.”

Gao Yang frowned and asked, “Did you encounter any unexpected resistance? I mean, did anyone originally not belonging to Mogilevich emerge?”

“No, it was just Mogilevich’s subordinates. He didn’t have many people to begin with, and now that he’s dead, those people are in chaos. Whether we can smoothly take over Mogilevich’s assets still depends on how well we manage things afterward; there are many issues to handle.”

Gao Yang recalled something and softly asked, “What assets of Mogilevich do you plan to seize? What was the main target of today’s fight?”

Alyosha replied excitedly, “Smuggling, money laundering; our White Shark Gang isn’t very good at these, so now we have to scatter Mogilevich’s people and then control them to work for us.”

Gao Yang asked in a somber tone, “Mogilevich was involved in human and organ trafficking. Are you going to seize these businesses?”

Alyosha instantly replied, “Of course! Why not?”

Gao Yang shook his head, looked at Alyosha, then finally fixed his gaze on Shava, and said in a deep voice, “You can do any business, but stay away from these two; cut off Mogilevich’s line completely, destroy it, but you must never touch it!”

Shava was a bit puzzled, while Alyosha asked, baffled, “Why?”

Gao Yang looked at Alyosha, his face stern, and said, “Because those businesses are inhumane! You can earn money, sure, even if the money is dirty, that’s not a problem, but some businesses must not be touched!”

After speaking, Gao Yang waved his hand, saying softly, “We all love money; I’ve killed and set fire to earn money countless times because I’m a mercenary. Mercenaries earn by killing. I’m not in a position to tell you what money to earn and what not to earn, so I’m not advising you but warning you.”

Waving his hand again, Gao Yang spoke in a deep voice to Alyosha, “We’re not good people, so I don’t expect anything from your character. But remember my words, folks, remember, we can be bad men, but not beasts. Only beasts destined for hell engage in taking organs from living humans to sell them.”

Alyosha rubbed his chin, looked at Shava, and said with a bitter face, “Indeed, organ trafficking is quite cruel, although it does make a lot of money.”

Shava firmly waved his hand, and Alyosha immediately laughed, “Alright, we won’t touch those businesses, nor will we engage in tricking and forcing Ukrainian girls into Western Europe.”

Gao Yang nodded and said in a deep voice, “Good, just like that. Shava, Alyosha, after handling things here, I need to leave Ukraine for a few days, but the duration is uncertain. Be cautious during this time. Also, before I leave, I’ll clear out Mogilevich’s remaining force. We’ll personally strike today and wipe out those involved in the organ trade for Mogilevich. You arrange for people to cooperate with us.”

Alyosha nodded and said, “Okay, I’ll arrange for people right away. But finding Mogilevich’s people isn’t easy; maybe they’ve already fled. We’ve captured some key figures from Mogilevich’s gang though; maybe they’ll provide some useful information.”

After speaking, Alyosha scratched his head and said apologetically, “Peter, I didn’t know you’d personally deal with those beasts. Um, I really didn’t expect your sense of justice to be so strong.”

Gao Yang smiled bitterly and sighed, saying, “I’m a mercenary, but that doesn’t stop me from having a sense of justice, nor does it stop me from occasionally doing good deeds. It feels nice to do some good sometimes, especially after doing a lot of bad. So, when it’s necessary to cleanse Mogilevich’s remnants, I’m eager to destroy those scumbags I despise personally, and I like to call it upholding justice, to alleviate my occasional guilt, allowing me to indulge in the illusion that I might actually be a good person. Maybe, I really am a good person, right?” (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets.
