Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 1386 - 1368 Butterfly Effect
Chapter 1386: Chapter 1368 Butterfly Effect
A butterfly flapping its wings occasionally in the tropical rainforest of the Amazon Basin in South America can cause a tornado in Texas two weeks later. This is the famous butterfly effect theory.
Donetsk’s declaration of independence may just be news on TV for outsiders, unlikely to attract much attention. But for Ukrainians, this is the trigger of the first shot of the civil war, although most people may not realize it yet.
For opportunists planning to take a bite out of Ukraine amidst the chaos, news from Donetsk is the signal of the feast’s beginning.
For people like Kucher, Rebrov, and Selin, the news from Donetsk is the starting gun for them to officially begin their clearing-out mode.
The civil war hasn’t officially started, but numerous international predators waiting to act have finally opened their bloody jaws on April 7, 2014.
Led by Gao Yang, the entire high-level management of the Satan Mercenary Corps or rather the Solar System Group, is neither a big nor small player in Ukraine. They could be considered small fish swimming in the basin that is about to become a bloodbath in Ukraine. On April 7, the appetizer time ends, and the main course time begins.
Gao Yang hung up the call from Kucher. After excitedly clenching his fist and waving it, he shouted, "We have a busy schedule. Yake, you stay home. The rest of you come with me to pick up the plane, bring five million US dollars in cash. We’re all going out. Time is tight, so let’s be quick."
Glolov asked puzzled, "Why bring so much money?"
Gao Yang replied with a smile, "There are at least three places waiting for us to inspect the goods. Kucher has helped contact a lot of businesses. One is the equipment from the BM-21 Hail rocket artillery camp, another from the BM-22 rocket artillery camp, and someone wants to sell some armored vehicles and tanks. There’s someone in the Army Aviation looking to sell stuff—it’s helicopters, though the specific models are unknown. Should include both armed and transport helicopters. Now everyone is anxious to sell off whatever they can, so we need to hurry to buy the stuff."
Everyone seems quite pleased, but Tommy frowned and said, "Business is both buying and selling. For arms dealing, the procurement part is secondary. Having clients and being able to sell is what’s most important. We’re buying so much in a short time, but who do we sell it to?"
Gao Yang candidly said, "I don’t know, but my thought is to buy stuff we can use as much as possible. Even if we can’t sell them for profit, we can still use them internally. So for now, we’re buying what we can utilize ourselves."
Tommy frowned, "We won’t be using rocket artillery."
Gao Yang laughed, "Exactly, that’s why we’re just going to take a look first. Whether we’ll buy it or not is still uncertain. Let’s go, we won’t know until we’ve seen it."
Yake is the intelligence officer for Satan now, so he wouldn’t follow the rest of the group in collective actions. Everyone except for Yake got into the cars and headed west from Kiev City District. About thirty minutes later, they arrived at the renowned Antonov ASTC.
Antonov ASTC represents the pride of Ukraine’s aviation industry, designing and building the world’s largest cargo aircraft, the An-225, along with heavy transport aircraft An-124. However, after the Soviet Union’s dissolution, the Antonov ASTC, which requires many parts from across the Soviet Union, especially Russia, to manufacture these planes, barely survived when relations with Russia were good. But now, with Ukraine and Russia virtually at odds and on the brink of a real war, Antonov ASTC is inevitably heading towards decline.
Entering an aircraft manufacturing plant should be difficult, but Gao Yang and his group’s car arrived at the plant gate, where Selin was already waiting, allowing them to enter the factory smoothly.
Without a word wasted, through the gate, Selin led Gao Yang’s group directly to the manufacturing workshop.
Selin was in the same car as Gao Yang, and he seemed both excited and a bit nervous. After guiding the driver, Li Jinfang, he quickly turned to Gao Yang and said in a trembling voice, "Did you bring the money?"
Gao Yang replied with a smile, "Of course, the money to buy planes as well as your commission is all there."
Selin said nervously, "I can’t take my share now. How could I take it at this time?"
Gao Yang snapped his fingers lightly and said, "Just give me a time and place, and I’ll give it to you after leaving here."
Selin looked impatient and said solemnly, "Things have become complicated suddenly. The official government might change personnel here, so you’d better quickly take the planes after paying. As for my share, what should I do? How do I get the money? I can’t take the money today."
Gao Yang smiled and said, "If you trust me, you could even receive the money after you arrive in America. If you feel uneasy, you can suggest a way to collect the money that you find suitable."
Selin was tangled in a dilemma, worried about the exposure of accepting Gao Yang’s commission if he took the money, and uneasy about not taking it—a million US dollars is a substantial sum. Yet, he couldn’t follow Gao Yang to get the money, nor did he dare to leave alone with Gao Yang for fear of being killed by him to save the money.
Finally, Selin said urgently, "Forget it, let’s figure out how to get the money later and settle this deal first. Everyone is anxious now. With chaos in the east, any situation could arise, and once an emergency is declared, some things here could become difficult to handle. Just don’t sell me out."
Gao Yang chuckled, "Please respect my professional integrity. Besides, even if you doubt my professionalism, you should understand that I wouldn’t damage my reputation over this amount."
Selin nodded before loudly saying, "Park in front of that manufacturing workshop ahead, right there."
The convoy stopped, and after Selin got out of the car himself, he softly said to Gao Yang, "Not all of you should go in; just bring the money."
Gao Yang waved his hand, and Eileen along with Li Jinfang grabbed a bag each and followed Selin into the manufacturing workshop.
The large transport aircraft manufacturing workshop was spacious, and inside, two transport planes, specifically An-32s undergoing maintenance and upgrades were parked. There weren’t the large number of people typically bustling around the planes, just two middle-aged men leaning against a desk right inside the door.
Before the two middle-aged men, Selin softly spoke, "This is Peter Yang, he intends to buy the planes."
One of the middle-aged men waved his hand and said solemnly, "Come, let’s begin inspecting the goods." (To be continued.
