Chapter 1281: Chapter One Thousand Two Hundred Sixty-Four: This Is Exactly the Effect I Want
“Your request… no… no problem at all, no problem whatsoever, leave it to me. Isn’t it just a transfer order for easier operations? I’ll get it for you from the Northern Combat Command!”
Shava, face flushed from drinking, waved his hand, slammed the table, and very boldly made a promise.
Alyosha, who was much bigger than Shava, nervously tried to slip under the table. He braced himself on the table and shouted, “Shava, didn’t you say we can’t do stuff like this?”
Shava waved his hand and loudly replied, “Normally, we can’t do stuff like this, but for friends, we certainly can!”
Li Jinfang slammed the table, picked up a cup filled to the brim with vodka, and boldly declared, “Cheers!”
Shava raised his glass, clinked cups with Li Jinfang, and poured the entire glass down his throat. Alyosha, despite his massive size, collapsed on the table after finishing his drink and didn’t get back up.
Gao Yang chuckled, “Alright, so how much should we pay you? Name your price.”
Shava waved his hand, stumbled and almost fell off his chair, then finally stabilized himself. He forcefully thumped his chest and slurred, “Money? What money?! For such small matters, what money do you need? Just wait, tomorrow—tomorrow I’ll deliver everything to you! Peter! Peter, Peter, Peter, Peter! We’re good friends, good friends shouldn’t talk about money! You… you can get me more of that good booze later. Ha-ha! Friend, I don’t want the stuff you can buy with money; I want the real good stuff. I love your booze, love it!”
Li Jinfang didn’t say a word. He just poured more vodka into the glasses—for him, Shava, and even Alyosha, who was already out cold.
Seeing Li Jinfang about to raise his glass again, Gao Yang quickly signaled him to stop. Shava was already on the verge of passing out. If he went down, there’d be no more talk.
“Alright, we’ll leave it to you then, brother. We’re in a bit of a rush, so please take care of this quickly.”
“I’ll go get it done for you this afternoon! Peter, I’ve got iron-blooded pals at the Northern Combat Command. Any kind of military goods—whatever Ukraine has, I can get for you! If you’re thinking about a long-term collaboration, I’d be thrilled. We’re good friends; we should work together long-term.”
Shava was already heavily drunk, but Gao Yang wasn’t. He picked up his glass with a smile and said, “We’ve all got plans this afternoon, so let’s stop drinking now. We’ll save the indulgence for next time. Shava, let’s finish this one last cup!”
Shava raised his glass, tipped it back, and after drinking muttered in a daze, “Right, I have to go to Zhytomyr. I can’t drink anymore. Next time—next time we’ll drink! Alyosha, get up, you idiot, you drank too much again.”
Gao Yang signaled to Little Donnie, who immediately got up and left the table. Not long after, he returned with a few of Shava’s subordinates.
Pointing at Shava, Gao Yang said loudly, “Your boss is wasted. Make sure to keep an eye on him and get him back safely, you hear?”
The group nodded and moved to help Shava, but Shava waved them off, pushing them away and bellowed, “I’m not drunk! Don’t worry about me. Take Alyosha—let’s go!”
Shava staggered to his feet. At that moment, Gao Yang also stood up, placed an unopened bottle of whiskey in Shava’s hand, and shouted, “Take this! Drink it slowly when you get back. I’ll get you more of this later.”
Two bottles of whiskey had been brought out earlier, but only one was opened and the rest of the drinking had been vodka. The remaining unopened bottle was always meant to be Shava’s gift to take home.
Though Shava could barely stand, he clutched the bottle tightly. Then he grinned at his men and said, “See this? The best whiskey from Scotland! Five thousand nine hundred ninety-nine a bottle—in British Pounds! Ha-ha! Limited edition, very rare, extremely rare. Peter worked so hard to get two bottles, and now he’s given one to me! Ha-ha! I’m going to treasure this bottle, really treasure it. You guys—just wait. Peter said there’s another version, a limited edition one that costs nine hundred ninety-nine British Pounds a bottle. He’ll get a lot of it for us. When the time comes, we’ll drink to our hearts’ content! Look, fighting and risking our lives—all for what? Isn’t it for moments like this, brothers? We’re making money, we’re going to enjoy life. Just wait—I’ll bring you guys more good stuff…”
Supported by two of his men, Shava clung tightly to the whiskey bottle, muttering incoherently as he walked out. As they were near the restaurant’s doorway, he suddenly turned around and addressed Gao Yang, saying, “Oh, brother, I almost forgot. You’re short on women, aren’t you? I’ll send some over this afternoon. What type do you like? Ones who speak English perhaps?”
Gao Yang hurriedly replied, “Oh, no, no need, really. We’ve got things to do. Next time—next time, alright?”
Whether Shava registered Gao Yang’s answer was unclear. After saying his piece, he continued his drunken rambling, moving further away.
Four men struggled to lift Alyosha but didn’t manage until several hotel staff stepped in to help carry him to the car.
As the car was about to start and drive away, Shava, slumped dazedly against the back seat, suddenly shouted, “To Zhytomyr! Northern Command!”
With one shout, he sank into deep sleep. Even in slumber, he still clutched the whiskey bottle without letting go.
Watching the convoy leave, Gao Yang exhaled deeply and turned to Li Jinfang, saying, “That was tough, drinking for more than two hours! You okay? Can you handle it?”
Li Jinfang shook his head and replied in a deep voice, “I’m fine. I’ll just throw up a bit and sleep it off. I’ll be good as new.”
Li Jinfang was the star drinker of the day. Gao Yang hadn’t consumed more than three cups the entire time, with Li Jinfang single-handedly taking down both Shava and Alyosha.
Little Donnie frowned and asked, “What should I do? Dealing with them requires being able to hold one’s liquor, but I clearly don’t have that kind of capacity.”
Gao Yang patted Little Donnie’s shoulder and smiled, “No problem; just find someone who can drink to help you out. If you can’t find anyone, offer a high salary and hire one. Easy.”
Little Donnie shrugged and said with a bitter smile, “You should quickly talk to Jansen and get his father to push those limited-edition bottles onto the market as soon as possible. If the boast backfires, we’re going to look real bad.”
“I’ll talk to Jansen now. If there’s no time to change the packaging, then we won’t worry about it. By the way, are there many luxury stores in Kiev?”
Little Donnie shook his head and said, “Kiev has luxury brand stores, but there aren’t many, and they don’t carry everything.”
Wine, women, and luxury—men, especially those who aspire to be gangster bosses, cannot do without them. Shava, as a newcomer, didn’t yet know how to spend his earnings wisely, but Gao Yang decided to give him a hand.
Gao Yang thought for a bit and then said in a low voice, “Shava said he doesn’t want money, but we still have to pay. How much do you think is appropriate to give him?”
Little Donnie contemplated for a moment before replying in a deep voice, “It’s hard to determine a reasonable number. If we handle it ourselves, we might need a million. If Shava does it, it might cost less than a hundred thousand. Unless Shava himself names a price, it’s difficult to judge what’s fair.”
Gao Yang waved his hand and said, “Give him three hundred thousand. I don’t think Shava will ask for another price. Even if he regrets it, he wouldn’t name a new price anymore. Whether three hundred thousand is too much or too little, we’ll just stick to that. On top of the money, send him extra gifts—gold watches, luxury bags, men’s bags, women’s bags; he’ll need something to show off in front of the ladies. Also, wine. Pick rare and pricey red wines, must be unavailable in Ukraine, as well as whiskeys, brandies, anything exotic. Just send a lot of high-end stuff. Let’s cap the budget at two hundred thousand US dollars. You handle it.”
Little Donnie frowned and said, “Giving this much all at once—won’t it come off as excessive?”
Gao Yang laughed, “You decide the timing. We need to establish a long-term and strong connection with Shava. If we can build a true friendship, even better. Of course, there’s always the risk of wasting the investment, but the established gangs would never let us have this level of control.”
Little Donnie nodded, “True. We can work with any faction in Ukraine, but we need a collaborator who’s exclusive—someone trustworthy. Established gangs can’t offer that. So, investing heavily in Shava is acceptable, even if his gang’s chances of being wiped out are high. It’s worth the risk, and the investment isn’t massive anyway.”
“How much cash do we have left?”
“We brought around one hundred fifty thousand dollars in cash. We’ve got about forty thousand left now. It’s not a lot, but it’s still enough for current needs. We should secure more cash, though. Getting cash in Europe isn’t as convenient as in America.”
Gao Yang spoke in a low voice, “Morgan has prepared a large amount of cash. Once you transfer the money to him, you can get the cash here. It’s fine in Europe. With Morgan’s help, several million won’t attract attention. But for larger amounts, it’s safer to go back to America to fetch it.”
“Got it. I need to prepare more cash, but it’s too dangerous carrying a large amount all by myself here.”
“True. Once we leave, you’ll be at risk alone. You should consider hiring bodyguards. Pick people from the team we worked with back in Syria; choose whoever you trust. Pay and numbers depend on your discretion.”
Entering the hotel lobby, Gao Yang and his two companions paused their conversation. Once in the elevator, Gao Yang resumed, “If you plan to stay here temporarily to manage our business, where will you settle? Here, or somewhere else?”
Little Donnie thought for a moment and said in a deep voice, “This hotel will do. No need to move elsewhere. We definitely shouldn’t stay too close to the White Shark Gang. Building good relations is important, but maintaining some distance is necessary.”
“And manpower? How will you handle staffing? You can’t stay in Ukraine permanently, so do you have anyone in mind to recommend to us?”
Little Donnie shrugged and smiled, “That’s your problem, not mine. Besides, I don’t have a suitable person to recommend. You’ll need to quickly find someone trustworthy.” (. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
