Mercenary’s War
Chapter 1153 - 1153 One Thousand One Hundred Thirty-Six Life and Death Line

1153: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Thirty-Six: Life and Death Line 1153: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Thirty-Six: Life and Death Line Everyone knew they had to conserve ammunition, everyone knew that the rockets were being consumed too quickly, but there was no choice, the enemy was approaching and when it was time to fire, they had to shoot.

If everyone could shoot as accurately as Frey, it would’ve been great, but such a scenario was simply impossible.

Saidev shouted anxiously, “Report on the number of rockets, quick!”

One by one, the count for RPG-7 rockets was quickly reported.

There were only eleven left, even fewer than the number of launchers, and for the disposable RPG-27 rocket launchers, there was only one left.

“Conserve usage, do not fire without certainty!”

Saidev was getting panicky.

The rockets were being used up too fast.

Initially, there were over a hundred and ten rockets in the prison, but under the enemy’s continuous assault, they were fired at a rate far exceeding their plan, consuming them greatly even though the results were not too bad.

And the rockets that Frey and his team carried were already used up.

They were targeting tanks, primarily carrying RPG-27s, with RPG-7s as auxiliary, so the RPG-7 launchers were mainly distributed to soldiers defending part of the wall.

At this moment, the armored vehicles, which had retreated some distance, and the tanks, which had not moved until now, opened fire again, targeting Frey’s position.

Frey’s team had just taken out the most bulldozers, and all the tanks were hit by them; naturally, the Rebel Army knew whom to focus their fire on.

Seeing the Rebel Army’s tank turrets turning, Gao Yang yelled, “Little Fly, retreat quickly!”

The enemy intensified their firepower again.

They didn’t have new reinforcements, but they concentrated their fire at Frey’s location.

Tanks, armored vehicle cannons, and machine guns fired incessantly at Frey’s position for a time.

Gao Yang stepped up his shooting, but the direct fire from the pickup trucks and the fire positions established by the Rebel Army in the high points of the village continued to pose threats despite his, Glolov’s, and Cui Bo’s best efforts.

“We’re fine, we’re moving positions, we’re going upstairs!”

Frey yelled into the walkie-talkie to update his status so that Gao Yang would know he hadn’t been hurt or killed in the recent barrage.

Just then, Jansen, who had just relaunched the reconnaissance drone, bellowed, “That big guy is coming, F**k, he’s really close now!”

If not for Jansen’s drone, this battle wouldn’t have been so manageable.

Initially, buildings blocked the view from the west and north of the prison, and although they had the high ground, it wasn’t possible to have every place in plain sight.

The large truck came from the west side, emerging from behind the buildings in the village, turning onto the road.

When Gao Yang and his crew visually detected it, the truck was already not far from the west gate of the prison, a mere distance of less than two hundred meters.

To exert firepower, the Rebel Army’s tanks and pickups had to be positioned in the open, so their mobile firepower was deployed on the southern side of the village, while the explosive-laden bulldozers, instead of taking the direct roads, relied on their own off-road capability to charge across the fields on either side of the road.

Now Gao Yang understood, the bulldozers were reluctant to come down the road, fearing they’d be destroyed en route and block the path for that big guy.

Before, with Jansen’s drone, every move of the enemy was known to Gao Yang and his men.

Whenever a suicide bulldozer emerged, everyone could prepare in advance.

But this time, it was unknown whether it was a coincidence or if the enemy had spotted the drone overhead and seized the chance to send their trump card.

Gao Yang felt it was unlikely that the enemy had detected the drone, which was very small and unlikely to be heard by ground forces, so it must have been a coincidence, albeit a deadly one.

“Take out that truck!”

Gao Yang and Saidev both roared in unison.

“F**k!

We won’t make it in time!”

Frey cursed furiously.

The enemy tank forced them to move their positions, and during the position transition, the big truck made its charge.

The stairwell in the prison building was not on the edge but situated nearer the middle.

To target the truck, Frey had two choices: run up to a new firing position or retreat to his previous firing spot.

Regardless of the choice, the distance was about the same, and so was the time.

Frey hastened his steps, carrying the rocket launcher and dashing upstairs like a madman.

The truck driver floored the accelerator, black smoke billowed, and the truck charged towards the prison.

At the same time, the previously idle tank also surged towards the prison, followed by the infantrymen that charged behind it.

The speed was too fast; two rockets were launched from the wall, but one landed in front of the truck and the other behind it.

As for Gao Yang, all he could do was watch helplessly, unable to do anything.

The truck had already entered a spot less than a hundred meters from the west gate.

Rafael stood up, waving his hand forcefully, and bellowed, “Retreat!

Retreat!

Run!

Staying here means death!”

Gao Yang’s mind went blank; he holstered his firearm and bolted backward.

As he sprinted, he roared into the radio, “Little Fly, no time left!

Run the other way, fast!”

Gao Yang issued his last command to Frey.

The truck was too close; whether Frey managed to take out the large truck, or if the truck exploded on its own, the outcome would actually be the same.

Despair etched on his face, Saidev roared loudly.

Taylor, closest to him, grabbed Saidev’s combat vest and dragged him backward as they ran.

Remaining in place was futile.

If they waited for the truck to reach and explode at the west gate, a mere twenty meters away, Gao Yang and his team would be killed by the blast.

Gao Yang was prepared for the truck’s imminent explosion.

If he didn’t die, then he’d just have to fight off the swarming enemies; if he was killed by the blast, then there was nothing left to say, and if he was knocked unconscious, it would be up to the reserves they had hidden earlier to buy time.

“The explosion is too strong, don’t lie down!

Crouch!

You must not go prone, only crouch!

Do not lie flat!

Only crouch!”

Rafael repeated these words, his voice shrill and piercing, like a woman screaming.

At least a dozen tons of fake medicine were loaded on that large truck.

If you lay on the ground within twenty meters, you’d be shaken to death; you could only crouch, not lie down.

Gao Yang understood this, but in the extreme chaos, many soldiers forgot this trick to avoid being killed by a powerful explosion.

After sprinting away from the gate, some soldiers immediately hit the ground.

As Gao Yang ran, he kicked those lying on the ground, and Saidev finally snapped to his senses, bellowing, “Crouch!

Crouch!”

The intense shockwave would come through windows; standing was too dangerous, crouching was the best option.

Estimating that there was no more time to run, Gao Yang crouched down, hands cradling his head, covering his ears, leaving the rest to fate.

“Everyone get down!

Take cover!”

Gao Yang issued the final command to all of Satan’s men, and then, crouched on the ground, he felt a vibration travel instantly through his body from his feet.

The building seemed to jump suddenly, toppling Gao Yang onto his seat; his heart felt as if it would stop beating, all his insides in excruciating pain.

A gigantic mushroom cloud rose into the sky, smoke and dust enveloped the entire prison.

The truck was the epicenter; first, a flash, then an invisible shockwave followed by a loud bang, and finally, dust rising from the ground like evaporating steam.

The explosion was so powerful that it raised dust from the ground across a vast area of five to six hundred meters from the center.

It was an earthquake.

For Gao Yang and his team, it was a major quake, but to the Rebel Army more than one thousand meters away from the explosion, it was a minor tremor.

First, they stared blankly at the mushroom cloud rising into the sky.

Looking down, they saw all the prison buildings pushing out dust.

Quickly, the entire prison was shrouded in smoke, and then the somewhat dazed rebels began to cheer.

“We did it!”

“Aleppo Prison has been breached!”

Countless members of the Rebel Army outside the prison they had besieged for over a year began to celebrate.

Within the prison walls, Rafael had also been shaken to the ground.

He stood up, patted himself down to make sure he was alive, then immediately ran to the window.

Without waiting long, Rafael also started to roar hoarsely.

“Fifty meters!

The truck was fifty meters from the west gate!

Haha!

We’re outside the absolute death zone!

We’re okay, we’re okay!”

Gao Yang and his team, inside the building, ultimately had effective cover.

Without the building’s protection, not one of them within one hundred meters would survive.

If they were inside the building and the truck exploded by the west gate, they would be at least stunned if not injured.

But the truck exploded fifty meters from the west gate, or about seventy to eighty meters from Gao Yang and his team inside the building.

That meant they wouldn’t die, nor would they get injured.

Everyone crowded back to the window, watching the black mushroom cloud through the thick dust.

Rafael shouted, his voice a mix of crying and laughing, “Someone took out that truck, they did it, they didn’t let it get through!

They saved everyone!”

Gao Yang didn’t know what to say.

He didn’t know who had blown up the truck at the critical moment, on the very edge between life and death.

He only knew that this person was a hero, the hero who saved Aleppo Prison.

This time, the hero was among the soldiers defending the prison, not someone from the Satan Mercenary Corps.

But who cared?
