Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 1076 - 1076 One Thousand and Fifty-Nine Full-Scale Deployment
1076: Chapter One Thousand and Fifty-Nine: Full-Scale Deployment 1076: Chapter One Thousand and Fifty-Nine: Full-Scale Deployment The big bomb hits the ground, followed by the Mi-24s ready to mop up any surviving enemies.
The smoke and dust from the explosion shroud everything; without thermal imagers, nothing is visible.
“Night Demon One, Night Demon Two, free to engage, over.”
With Gao Yang’s command, the attack begins.
The two Mi-24s prioritize their cannons to take out any exposed individuals outside of cover, clearing the last obstacles for the imminent airborne assault.
Now, the only way to observe the battlefield is through Jansen’s drone.
Gao Yang can see many people emerging onto the streets, thrown into disarray by the sudden strike.
Particularly within the smoke-covered area, the Rebels, almost blind, appear panicked, some firing blindly into the sky, others frantically fleeing.
The smoke cannot linger forever; it will dissipate in a matter of minutes.
It’s best to helicopter-land while the enemy is completely deprived of vision, but first, they must eliminate any enemies left outside.
When the two Mi-24s commence their slaughter, Eileen’s Little Antelope helicopter arrives.
“Punisher, this is Night Demon Four, awaiting tasking, over.”
The attack from the armed helicopters is efficient.
Machine gun positions are prioritized for elimination, and those fleeing on the streets, once realizing the attack is coming from above, nearly all take immediate cover nearby to avoid the helicopter’s onslaught.
Seeing the streets nearly cleared, Gao Yang grabs the radio handset and commands in a deep voice, “This is Punisher, begin heli-drops now.
Night Demon Four, cover their landing.
Night Demon Team and God Eagle Team, land and set up defensive positions to cover the landing of subsequent personnel.”
“Night Demon Four understands, over.”
“Night Demon Team understands, starting landing, over!”
“God Eagle Team understands, starting landing, over!”
There isn’t enough landing space for all eight Mi-17 helicopters to descend at once.
Two Mi-17s can land at the same time safely, while three is the limit.
Centered around Satan’s Nightfiend Team, undoubtedly the strongest component, they establish a defensive perimeter after landing, making all efforts to ensure the safety of the landing troops to follow.
Three Mi-17s approach the ground, then one lands much faster than the other two.
Gao Yang watches the landing nervously from the monitor during this most dangerous phase.
After the helicopters heavily touch down, numerous shadows swiftly spill out, dispersing in all directions.
“Night Demon Three, safely landed, taking off again, over!”
Gao Yang’s heart sinks halfway; the first to land held all of his people, he couldn’t afford to lose even one.
Gao Yang wants those who’ve already landed to charge straight towards the target building without hesitation, but sadly he cannot do so.
Charging towards Iron Wall Mercenary Corps’ defenses with just a dozen people is obviously not as good as waiting momentarily for all personnel to land.
Although this is slightly slower, it is undoubtedly safer and more reliable.
As for the risk of Badadi running out and escaping, Gao Yang is not worried—for a simple reason.
The two Mi-24s and one Little Antelope in the sky spare their rockets and use their cannons just to prevent anyone from running.
Once Satan’s people land, they almost immediately engage in firefights with the enemy.
One side is fully equipped with night vision devices, the other can see nothing, only able to shoot towards the helicopters blindly.
It’s a disaster, and Satan’s first landing party slaughters the nearby enemies.
Soon, two more Mi-17s land one after the other—personnel from the Military Intelligence Directorate Action Team swarm out of the helicopters.
“This is God Eagle Team, Shadow speaking, safe landing and defensive perimeter established.”
Yake and his team land, and the gunfire is already sparse; the first group has gained a foothold.
Gao Yang speaks decisively, “Reconnaissance Company land, first Special Strike Team land, Nightfiend Team, advance to the predetermined area, proceed with the original plan!”
Three more helicopters touch down.
Once on the ground, the Third Infantry Brigade quickly unfolds to replace and establish defensive positions, while the already assembled Satan Mercenary Corps swiftly advances towards the core area centered on two buildings.
Satan’s advance is methodical, not rushing ahead.
The landing zone is to the southwest of the attack area, about four hundred meters away.
They need to move along a street for two hundred meters, pass through an intersection, then continue along a narrowed street for a further one hundred and eighty meters before arriving at an open area near the buildings, officially reaching the attack zone.
Gao Yang felt helpless because neither the members of the Republic Guard Division Special Strike Force nor those of the Third Infantry Brigade could land using rope descent.
It was simply suicidal to allow only Satan and a part of the Military Intelligence Directorate Action Team to land directly in the core area where the Iron Wall Mercenary Corps was likely located.
Therefore, the only viable option for the airborne operation was to land at a certain distance from the core battlefield, but not too far away, and then gradually advance to take down the enemy with superior forces and fire support.
This wasn’t the quickest way to end the battle, but it certainly was the safest and most secure choice.
As the Nightfiend Team advanced, they cleared the enemies on both sides, and as they were about to reach the crossroads, they halted.
They delayed their advance to clear obstacles, allowing the follow-on forces to complete their assembly and swiftly cross over at full speed.
When the Nightfiend Team paused its advance, Ludwig had caught up from behind with the personnel of the Reconnaissance Company of the Third Infantry Brigade.
Progressing section by section, clearing the path, it was now the turn of the Third Infantry Brigade personnel to go up.
Eight helicopters had all landed.
When the last chopper touched down, Farouk shouted, “Report!
The Special Strike Force has landed!”
Gao Yang said in a deep voice, “Reconnaissance Company advances, establish and consolidate a safe route, followed by the God Eagle Group taking over the advance, over!”
“Reconnaissance Company received, initiating attack, also, I request our call sign be changed to Scimitar, over.”
Hearing Ludwig’s request, Gao Yang immediately said, “Fine, from now on you guys are the Scimitar Squad, over.”
“Thank you, Scimitar begins attack, over!”
The operation plan was actually made in a rush.
Gao Yang hadn’t even had time to come up with call signs for the Third Infantry Brigade and the Republic Guard Division Special Strike Force.
Although he usually coined call signs off the cuff, there wasn’t enough time for this operation.
So, Gao simply used a segment of their original names as call signs for both teams.
Gao Yang felt it didn’t matter, but some couldn’t bear it.
Who wouldn’t want their call sign to sound better?
Thus, Ludwig made the request, and Gao Yang was more than willing to satisfy it, because Scimitar sounded smoother than Reconnaissance Company and was less likely to be confused.
Ludwig waved his hand and led his men out slowly from the secured streets on both sides.
Two squads turned around the corner along the walls and entered the crossroads area.
Gao Yang could monitor the battlefield with drones and saw that there were no people in the four directions of the crossroads from an aerial view.
However, it was different when looking from the ground to the west, so Gao Yang did not issue any actual orders to Ludwig, so as not to interfere with Ludwig’s judgment.
They were already close to the ground forces, and there was no need for high-powered radios; walkie-talkies could be used to establish contact.
As the Scimitar Squad slowly moved through the crossroads, Gao Yang said softly, “God Eagle Group, prepare.
After controlling the crossroads, God Eagle Group advances along the road, over.”
Ludwig’s actions were not slow.
He personally brought people to the crossroads for a quick reconnaissance.
After checking the situation, Ludwig waved his hand and said in a deep voice, “Move quickly, take up positions on all four corners and establish defensive positions.”
More than twenty people spread out and ran quickly towards the approximately ten-meter-wide street on the opposite side, and that’s when Gao Yang saw a stream of tracer bullets fired laterally at the people rushing through the crossroads.
Gao Yang’s heart tightened.
The tracer bullets came from a house on the side of the road – the enemy had finally opened fire with intent.
Two of the Scimitar were down on the ground, and more people fired back at the enemy’s shooting position, but the enemy’s firing point must have been very well concealed.
Although Gao Yang could not see it from his perspective, the fact that the enemy’s machine gun kept firing pointed out the problem.
On the street, some people were pinned down by the machine gun fire, unable to move; there were many obstacles on the road, and lying down did not put them in particular danger.
However, if the enemy’s machine gun fire was not suppressed, it would be problematic for the subsequent troops to advance.
“Fire suppression, move quickly!
Rocket Launcher!
Take him out!”
Ludwig shouted.
Two people carried disposable RPG-26 rocket launchers, and one designated rocket launcher operator was ready with a larger caliber and more powerful 105mm RPG-27 rocket launcher to prepare for launch.
Ludwig waved his hand, signaling the launcher operator to get ready, then loudly said, “Fire suppression!”
The enemy’s firing position was very close to the Scimitar Squad, only about two hundred meters away, and rifles could effectively suppress it.
During a lull in the enemy machine gun fire, six rifles simultaneously opened fire, suppressing the enemy.
The moment the enemy was suppressed, the RPG-27 launcher operator quickly popped out from cover, took a brief aim, fired the rocket, and accurately hit the enemy’s hidden firing position, meaning the two with RPG-26’s didn’t need to take a follow-up shot.
Ludwig waved his hand and shouted loudly, “Charge!
Cross over, establish defenses!”
Seeing that the rocket launcher operator had knocked out the enemy’s firing position with a single shot, Gao Yang sincerely said, “This launcher operator is good, pretty good.”
After expressing his admiration, Gao Yang immediately said, “God Eagle Group, advance quickly to clear the route, be careful of the enemy’s concealed firing positions.” (To be continued.
