Chapter 53: Chapter 53

"Leave me alone, Cassius," Rose defiantly replied as she tried to step away from him.

Cassius narrowed his eyes, "Would you say that if he was the one holding you?" He turned Rose’s body so she faced Eliot, who was looking at her with concern.

"No. I won’t resist because I like him, he’s my friend, someone I can actually rely on - Argh!" Rose staggered forward, almost falling but luckily falling into Eliot’s arms.

"It’s alright, I got you," Eliot whispered, gently drawing her in.

Cassius had pushed her on purpose, his brewing anger could be felt in the room. He glared at Eliot, his brows starting to furrow in anger.

"Since you like him so much, Human, then let him prove his love by taking you home," Cassius smirked.

Rose snapped her head to Eliot, "Can you? Can you really take me home?" She asked with excitement.

Fuck all that bonding shit Felonious was talking about; if she could really go home then, by all means, they could all shove their Lux abilities up their asses. She’d had enough of the supernatural fantasy.

Eliot sighed, "I can, Rose. But I won’t," He stared into her blue eyes, silently apologizing for disappointing her.

"Why not? Please, Eliot, take me home. I don’t want to be here anymore; I want to leave, please," She held his hands and begged.

Cassius’ footsteps sounded behind her until he reached her, and pulled her away from Eliot.

"You see that? The person you like refused to take you home; what a shame," He whispered from behind.

Rose shook her head and stared at Eliot, "Eliot, why aren’t you helping me out of here? Why are you doing this to me?" She asked, her voice cracking.

Eliot sighed, glancing at Cassius before he spoke, "It’s not what you think, Rose. I do want to take you home, but if I do, I’d be disobeying the law of our kingdom and risking my title; you know I would love to help you, but I can’t," He calmly explained.

Rose sniffed, turning to face Cassius, "Let go," She snatched her hand from his, glaring at him.

"It was you, right? You made the law that no one should leave or enter your kingdom. Why? Why do you want to keep me here? Why have you just chosen to suffer me?" She questioned, breathing heavily as she controlled her anger.

At that moment, she wished she had mastered her abilities; now could have been a good time to blast Cassius with some fiery fire.

Cassius held her eyes as he strode close to her, "You brought yourself to me... don’t you understand? You offered yourself to me as my slave or whatever I chose to make you. Leaving?" He raised a brow and gently held up her chin, "The only way you’re leaving my side is through death," He whispered.

"Then kill me!" She suddenly pushed Cassius, causing him to stagger a few steps back.

In the blink of an eye, Eliot was standing in front of Rose; his head lowered because, in the next second, Cassius was in front of him, eyes red and glowing.

He’d been triggered.

Rose stood behind Eliot, breathing heavily; she knew she was in trouble. Was this what Felonious meant when he said that her emotions would get the best of her if she didn’t bond with that devil? Then this was just the beginning of her troubles because she doesn’t see herself mating with him anytime soon.

"It was a mistake, Brother. She’s just but a human... a woman... nothing compared to your great strengths," Eliot appeased.

Cassius didn’t respond, he simply pinned his eyes on Rose over Eliot’s shoulder and commanded, "Come here, Rose," he said.

Rose gulped, her heart raced in fear. ’What have I done now?’ She bit her lips.

She was about to move out when Eliot held her wrist, pinning her in place.

"Brother -"

"Let her come to me, Athan. Do not challenge my authority," Cassius’ voice had a ring to it, something akin to anger and...jealousy.

Eliot sighed, "It’s okay, I’m here," He said to Rose before stepping out of the way.

Rose was now exposed to Cassius, her pulse racing invisible tracks, "Master, I’m sorry. I was wrong for laying my hands on you. I will accept any punishment -"

"Good," Cassius cut her off and immediately grabbed her hand.

The next thing Rose felt was a heavy dizziness in her head and an accelerated heartbeat. She felt like she was whizzed through the thin air, her feet left the floor for a few seconds before she felt it again.

She struggled to hold herself up and almost fell to the floor but she felt Cassius’s arms holding her up.

She was still trying to find her bearings when she felt his hand under her chin.

"You said you could take any punishment. Open your eyes," Cassius whispered.

Rose obeyed; she slowly opened her eyes and stared up at Cassius’ eyes, but she didn’t concentrate on his face for long because something else caught her eyes.

Rose gasped, "The roof... my roof..." She stared around the place and realized that indeed, it was her room.

She snapped her eyes back to Cassius, "You brought me home!" She couldn’t help smiling so brightly at him.

Cassius saw her smile and felt a part of him soften; this was the first time she was smiling at him, a genuine, beautiful smile. He raised his hand to touch her cheek but lowered it to his side when he remembered that she also used to smile at Eliot this way all the time.

She would always put Eliot first.

Rose cautiously stepped back from him, moving towards her window, where the sunray was streaming in; he needed to feel it on her skin.

Cassius had teleported them to the dark side of her room beside her wardrobe.

She couldn’t keep standing with him, she needed the sun.

Cassius let her, watching her as she went over and opened her window, allowing the sunray to pour on her face and body. She shot her head out of the window and took a deep breath, drawing the fresh morning air into her lungs.

This was just how she liked it, letting the sunlight inside her room and basking in it. She looked at her skin and realized that she was almost as pale as the vampire behind her.

"Oh..." Rose slowly turned when she remembered that Cassius was still standing in the shadows behind her.

"Cassius... is this... are you letting me go?" She asked, a little bit of hope rising in her chest.

Cassius’ green eyes flickered in the shadows, his figure looked so out of the world as he stood majestically in her room.

"What do you think?" Cassius questioned.

Rose bit her lips in contemplation. "I don’t know, you’re in charge," She replied quietly.

Cassius looked over to her bed and saw that the shadows spread over to one side of it. He walked over to her bed and lowered herself to it.

"How many times has Athan been here?" He questioned darkly.

Rose furrowed her brows, "Um, just once," She said.

Cassius’s aura turned darker, "So he’s been to your bed," He locked eyes with her.

Rose frowned, suddenly understanding what Cassius was talking about, "Oh, no, no, not that way... he’d only been here once and he didn’t come inside the house. He had only stood in front of the house while waiting to take me to the field trip," She explained, tracing her fingers along her white curtain; it looked neat as if someone was keeping house for her.

"A field trip? So you did go on a date with him," Cassius’ silky voice asked calmly.

Rose opened her mouth to speak but stopped, she narrowed her eyes at him. "Are you jealous, Cassius?" She stared at him in suspicion.

Cassius stood, "Watch your mouth, Rose. I’m never jealous and never will be over a human," His jaws flexed, his eyes looking all over the room.

Rose nodded, feeling hurt by his answer, "Firstly, it wasn’t a date, it was a work trip with many other of his employees, and that was also the unfortunate day I took that mysterious fall and found your grave." She informed.

"Unfortunate?" Something flashed in his eyes as he stared at her.

Rose chuckled humorlessly, "Yes. Do you want me to say that I’ve been happy since I laid my eyes on you? You know it, you’ve given me hell. I don’t know why you insist on keeping me with you. Please, you can just vanish out of my life. I belong here, leave me here, please," She pleaded, sighing.

Cassius gave her a bone-chilling smile, "Come here, Rose," He smoothly spoke.

Rose shook her head, "No. I’m staying here, Cassius, this is the only time I have something you’re scared of: the sun." She moved closer to the window.

There was no way she was taking herself to him now that she had the chance to run from him; she’d be the biggest fool to do so.
