Chapter 15: Chapter 15

She knew she couldn’t keep his hand hanging, and she also knew that she wasn’t supposed to take his hands, for her safety.

But Rose reluctantly raised her smaller hand to his much bigger one and slowly placed it in his.

Cassius wasted no time in wrapping his hand around Rose’s, gently helping her up as if he really cared about her.

Rose stood before him, her hand in his and his eyes on hers.

She was just about to apologize for her rudeness when she suddenly felt a dull pain in her head. She thought it was just one of those stress-induced headaches, but she felt it again, this time, much stronger and more painful.

She winced from the sharp pain and tried to remove her hand from Cassius’ but he held on tightly, locking his icy green eyes on hers.

"W-what are you doing to me?" Rose questioned, becoming unstable on her feet as she started to sway uncoordinated.

"S-stop!" She put her hand on her forehead, feeling like someone had just opened her skull, took out her brain, and replaced it with millions of ice cubes.

That was how she felt, like her brain was being forcefully frozen, the painful pressure inside her head threatening to burst open her head.

"Argh!!!" Rose screamed as she felt the instant constriction of her vessels and nerves; she felt like she was dying as the freezing pain traveled down to her neck and made it very hard for her to breathe.

Cassius didn’t release Rose, he stared concentratedly at her face and increased his hypnosis on her. He was just making her imagine things, things like freezing to death.

He wasn’t doing much, but he knew his little was enough to kill her, and that was what he wanted, to kill her. No one insulted him and went free.

Dabmond stood beside them, worry written all over his face, but he dared not stop him; he knew the consequences.

"Aaaarrgghh!!!" Rose shrieked in a very high pitch.

"Hiss!!!" Cassius suddenly hissed and immediately released Rose’s hand, stepping away from her.

Rose weakly fell to the floor, whimpering quietly as blood dripped down her nose.

Dabmond heard the sizzling sound of skin being burnt and immediately looked at his brother’s arm. sure enough, Cassius’ arm looked like someone had dropped a candle wax all over his lower arm, but in his case, it would be a fire wax.

But the burning sound quickly seized as his skin instantly healed in the next second, leaving his arm as spotless as ever.

The brothers shared a shocked look, then looked down at the girl crying on the floor, her nose still bleeding.

"Her blood burns," Cassius said with a little frown, narrowing his eyes at her in strange scrutiny.

Dabmond remained quiet, staring at Rose differently now, like she was some kind of undiscovered creature. If not, how the hell does her blood burn?!

He slowly approached her and squatted beside her.

"She’s different," Dabmond said, staring at Rose’s face.

"Master, is everything alright? I sensed a strange essence," Felonious was beside Cassius in a matter of seconds, looking around the room until his eyes landed on Rose who was still whimpering on the floor.

He frowned as he scented her blood, "Step away from her, young master, her blood seems dangerous," Felonious’ voice was foreboding.

Dabmond slowly stood and moved away from Rose, staring interestingly at her.

"Her blood burns," Dabmond repeated to Felonious.

Felonious couldn’t believe his ears; years of experience with magic and everything supernatural didn’t prepare him for something like this.

Burning blood? How? And, why?

"What does this mean, Felonious?" Cassius asked, disturbed.

It unsettled and bothered him. All his life, he’d never seen anything like this before, and this just made him more skeptical about Rose, all the more reason to keep her close.

If he let her into the hands of the wrong people, they’d use her blood to cause havoc in his kingdom, he can’t let that happen.

"I can’t explain, Master. But I can take some of her blood and find out why it is so, with your permission, of course," Felonious said in a lowered voice.

Cassius turned to Rose and saw her trying to stand on her feet, her nose still bleeding, he frowned as he saw that.

He knew she was human, but did she have to be this fragile?

"Come here," Cassius said to Rose.

Felonious and Dabmond snapped their head towards him.

What did he mean? Has he already forgotten how her blood burned his skin?

"Brother?" Dabmond called, worried.

"Closer, human," Cassius ignored his brother and asked Rose to come closer as she had just moved a foot from where she stood before.

Rose slowly approached him, using her sleeves to wipe her bleeding nose.

She now stood directly before him, she was still scared, but learning that her blood could hurt him gave her some kind of satisfaction.

She was ready to cut herself and drain her blood on him as long as he died; she didn’t mind losing her life to achieve that.

"Your thoughts will end you, little human," Cassius raised his hand above Rose’s head and smoothed back her disheveled hair.

"Control your thoughts when you’re around me, Human. I don’t like them," Cassius brought his face close to hers, staring into her misty blue eyes.

"I just want to return home," Rose whispered.

Cassius smirked, his handsome face staring down at her mysteriously, "Home, is here."

He gently released her and moved away from her, "Now that you’ve shown what you’re capable of, I won’t let you go. Take it as an exchange for disturbing my sleep in the cave," Cassius said, his sharp gaze piercing into Rose’s soul.

She unsettled him. He had a whole kingdom worshipping him in fear and respect, but just this one human has refused to bow to him no matter the situation she finds herself in.

He’ll make sure she understands that she wasn’t worthy of standing before him, he would have killed her a long time ago if it weren’t for Elliot’s involvement.

Thinking of Elliot, it was about time they had an open discussion with Rose.

Rose slowly shook her head, "This hell will never be my home," she spat out.

"We’ll see," Cassius replied.

"Take her to your lair, Felonious," Cassius ordered.

"Yes, Master," Felonious replied.

Rose didn’t wait for Felonious to come and hold her arm and drag her out like before; she turned and started walking out of the room on her own.

"This way, Rose," Felonious said to Rose who was going down the carpeted stairs.

Rose looked behind and saw Felonious heading toward the left side of the hallway and reluctantly followed behind.

She followed him down a short stair and through a sturdy wooden door that led them into a large rectangular room.

The moment Felonious pushed open the door, the air became thick with the scent of old parchment, sandalwood, and a hint of mystical energy.

Rose felt a strange feeling wash over her as she stepped into the dimly-lit lab-like room, but, in this case, it was an ancient lab with strange equipments on top of the long tables.

Flickering candles cast shadows on the walls, creating an atmosphere of ancient mystique.

They were a few modern pieces of types of equipment but she still didn’t know what they were for, all she could see were different-shaped vials, test tubes, chronicle flasks, a few animal skins were hanging on a tiny rope beside the walls, shelves upon shelves of dusty jars containing mysterious ingredients and rare potions also lined orher parts of the walls.

Rose was creepped out by the mysterious and enchanting setting, it evoked a sense of wonder and magic, and, for the first time, she saw Felonious look very connected and attached to something. It was obvious he adored his Lair.

"Come in, Rose," Felonious waved her in.

"Sorry," Rose apologized and quickly left the door, jumping a little as the door magically closed by itself.

"Sit," He pointed at a long stool for her to sit beside a large beautifully crafted wooden desk, where a leather-bound book laid open.

Rose cautiously walked over and lowered herself on the stool. She noticed that the leather-bound book had carvings in mysterious languages and she couldn’t help but wonder what they meant and what kind of spells they cast on people. The book just lay there, as if it was waiting for its owner to come back.

"Do not touch it, Rose," Felonious warned.

"Oh?" Rose suddenly startled as she realized that she was unconsciously raising her hand to touch a page from the strange book.

"I’m sorry," She said quietly.

Felonious didn’t respond, he just went over his velvet-draped chamber filled with ancient tomes, glowing orbs, and strange artifacts and took a out a metal knife with star-shaped head.

That is when Rose realized her purpose of going down the Liar with Felonious. She has been too carried away with admiring the room that looked exactly like it was brought our of her novel.

Every second in this realm proved to her how right her friend, Laura, was.

In the end, the dark world did come for her.

"Are you going to kill me?" Rose questioned, knowing it was a possibility.

"Give me your wrist, Rose," Felonious said, standing before her with the star-headed knife in his hand.
